I have some info about the kahoot thing, as the person In the frame is my brother. From what I've heard from him, the kahoot was made by the english teacher Who is apparently pretty bad at english, which is absolutely insane. They clearly do not emphasize that much on english In vocational school lmao.

Similar in Belgium, we only deliver one side of our tour. the other side gets mail & advertising on the next day. Mail is usually email nowadays, the rest has been taken over my package delivery. So the time is better spent focusing on one thing.

I think at least part of the reason Eurovision is longer talked about in Finland is because they have to choose their entry and qualify, which is a much longer road than the UK's equivalent since we get in for free 😂 (in the sense that we don't have to qualify, of course!)

Yes, kind of lame when you think about it. I used to think the big 5 are privileged, which you are in a way but you're also robbed off the excitement of the semi finals and internal voting is very unengaging too. Best of luck tonight :D

Watching the Eurovision Song Contest is a big tradition in Finland in May, as are the Ice hockey Championships. This year, the hype is especially big because Finland and Sweden are favorites to win. Besides, Käärijä is great, isn't he? 💪🙂🍻🍺

The pointy shoes are traditional, google out "lapikkaat" and "pieksut". They are still used somewhat in Lappi. They were quite popular in the beginning of the century. They were also represented in some version of the "Tuntematon Sotilas"-movie, where a couple of soldiers preferred the thigh-long versions in deep snow. I have a pair or two myself. I was also responsible for ordering the first pair of "lapikkaat" in black leather many years back. Still got them. Nowadays sold by many shoemakers.

Finland had an absolutely good job at Eurovision this year... I watched their Uuden Musiikin Kipailu (at 3am lol cuz timezones is a thing) and every single song in that National Final were capable of qualifying to the finals Käärijä out right won the televotes this year but quite frankly the juries didn’t love it as much as Sweden because of the song’s weirdness and it’s fun factor

8:45 One reason many old photos look awkwardly posed is because the cameras and film of those times needed quite long exposures, so the subject would have to sit very still to get a good picture. The effort of doing so often led to the pose being at least a little bit unnatural. For the early 20th century, film chemistry had already improved a lot over what was available in the 19th century, but it was still not sensitive enough to "freeze motion" under most circumstances.

5:08 apparently finnish post takes up to 12 days to deliver packages ?? Because of the weird way finnish addresses and apartment buildings are numbered ? That is outrageous. I am post worker in Belgium and it takes 2 days here (3 for weekends & holidays)

Nah, in my experience the delivery takes about two to three business days. Letters however... If you don't have electric notifications for your packages or the sender didn't attach your phone number to the address, the notification for the package's arrival is sent as a letter. Package is only being held at the pickup location for 7 days. And delivery days for letters are being constantly lessened and they get lost easily, so the pick up window is gone and the package is sent back by the time you knew of its existence. Even if you get the letter just in time, the pick up location is a random grocery store that might not even keep the "post office" open through their own opening hours. I had this happen when I went to pick up a package at from a store open until 10pm. Said they only deal with mail until 6pm on Saturdays.

I think many of those old pictures look haunting just because they had to keep the expression very long because it took time to take the picture. If they moved even the slightest the picture would be blurred.

Finland’s in need of more people as the population ages, and the birth rate is low. Käärijä is now a diplomat and representative of Finland, helping to attract foreigners here - “Come to Finland!”, why? Because…”It’s crazy. It’s party”, of course! And would probably add, “We are happiest in world. 6th year. Oh, and we have Lordi, too. Jees, that is it.”

I can’t tell if you’re yay or nay about ESC on the whole, but Finland’s entry hasn’t had this kind of international hype in… maybe ever? I wasn’t online much when Lordi won, so I’m not sure how it was back then.

I called my dad "isi" but my sister called him by his name "Jukka".. I think it's usually mostly small children that uses "isi". I was eleven when he died, my sisters were 17. He was a hunk (athlete) so not like in that picture . 😂

About the pointy shoes… they were made like that so they could ski with them. The old times’ skis’ bindings were such that the curved point would keep the skis on.

I guess pieksut was the very best shoes to use ski's in wintertime, those pointees helped that ski's didn't slide away easily, I don't know the english term but in finnish they used "näystin" to hold the ski's on foot

This year Finland's Eurovision fever went so extra over that I'm just happy and satisfied that Käärijä didn't win the contest because I believe that most Finns wouldn't have been able to stand that victory and this mania would have just gotten out of hand even more. For example, people hoarded pineapples and canned ppineapples like crazy, and hoarded swiss rolls, hoarded green marzipan, hoarded cucumbers, sold everything green online under the name Käärijä, changed the official coats of arms of the municipalities, made little children sing Cha Cha Cha in kindergartens, sewed green boleros for dogs and gave pet rabbits Käärijä-hairstyles. Some supermarkets also gave discounts or free products if you had a Käärijä outfit and hairstyle. That circus was too much.

big, cold, expensive and overly hyped. More social problems in there too compared to other cities and problematic behaviour. Nice to visit for a sort time, but i wouldn't want to live there.

@@hosannayeshua4446 Oh. Didn't know people feel that way. I´ve lived in Vaasa, Tampere, Iisalmi, Amsterdam, Malta and Helsinki. Mostly (like 90%) in Helsinki though and it's easily the best place I´ve lived in. Not even close. Well, to each his own I guess.
