A Word on Westerns

A Word on Westerns

2 жыл бұрын

2021 was another devastating year. For those good friends we have lost over the past 12 months, who had contributed to film and TV westerns, and joined us on A WORD ON WESTERNS, we have put together a special Memorial Tribute featuring excerpts from their interviews.
We honor those performers and filmmakers who joined us to share their experiences of working in the western genre. We are grateful. They were friends and colleagues who became part of our goal of preserving western film history.
We also will pay tribute to others who made contributions to westerns and died in 2021 but were never able to participate with us to discuss their film history. We, and future generations, will always have their work to savor and enjoy. We thank them, and those not mentioned, for all of their work in the genre.
May they Rest in Peace.

“I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY!”♥️SEYMORE, “I HAVE TO SAY, HOW RIGHT YOU ARE!” OMGOSH! I have felt the exact same way, since sometime in my 20’s. Once my Nana passed away, when I was in my mid 20’s, it broke my heart! I remember her saying how all her friends, from her generation, were now gone & how lonely she was! I felt so bad for her! 😢My mother then moved up “in line” as the oldest in the family, taking over my grandmother’s previous position, of matriarch of our family. Sadly my dear mother then passed away four yrs ago, this coming October 2022! Her high school reunions, that I always attended with my mother, after my stepfather died in the late 80’s at a very young age, grew smaller & smaller w/ each reunion. Gosh, how I miss my beloved mother & Nana! I became aware that I have moved into the position of “eldest”, the matriarch, with our dearly loved sons & grandchildren. I clearly remember myself as youngest in line, as a teenager in the 60’s & then in my early 20’s, w/my life seemingly , stretching out forever, with infinite possibilities before me. Now, Lynn, SEYMORE & everyone here responding, it is exactly as you all have said. I see so many dearly loved celebrities from the 60’s in movies, tv and recording passing away! It is so startling to hear of their deaths! Isn’t it funny how 65 seemed so “ancient to us all ( at least it did me!”😂) way back when I was in my teens & early 20’s???” I never gave it a second thought, about getting older or “aging”, way back then, figuring it was something far off in the future! I remember my grandmother telling me how fast time was going by, when she was just 65 & that admission truly surprised me! I always thought time would go “slowly by” when you were “older.”I never forgot her words though & I now realize just how right my dear Nana was! BJ THOMAS, JOHNNY CRAWFORD, ANNETTE FUNICELLO, SANDRA DEE, PETER FONDA ….. the list goes on & on. Each time a dearly loved celebrity passes away, I am incredulous thinking “that person was so young!” I then inwardly cringe thinking “OMGOSH, that person that died was in my generation, or someone I grew up watching ( scary)!!! It seems impossible that they have passed! I also realize, just as my sweet Nana predicted so long ago, the older you get, the faster life does indeed seem to be passing by, just as she predicted!!😀Wishing you all the very best in life! ♥️

Karen,.. my parents are still alive but I know that when they die that will leave me the oldest generation. but I don't feel sad about that because I look forward to the prophecies in the Bible being fulfilled about the resurrection. Jesus proved when he was on Earth that the resurrection could happen he performed these resurrections in front of hundreds of people at times. so we can know and count on them happening. I will give you some scriptures to comfort you when you think about the fact that you are next. Acts 24:15, John 5:28 and 29, 11:11~44, in January my oldest sister died and now my only uncle has died just a few days ago.😢 SO death is more prevalent now and will continue to be so as my family ages. BUT I just keep remembering the resurrection hope. and as Psalms chapter 37 says the wicked will be gone the meek/righteous will inherit the earth and live forever on it that is in verse 29. Sincerely Tammie 🙋🏼💞😇

Very nicely put together, Rob. I hope that future generations have an interest in this period of entertainment history. Obviously, it won't be a huge audience, but you deserve much praise for grabbing the opportunity of having conversations with these people and putting them where they may very well be available forever in some format. Time is running out for all of us, and your cause is a noble one.

Well, this was an emotional trail ride. So many memories of even the meanest of western villains, and of course the heroes they made look so good. And the behind-the-camera pros that brought out the best in all of them. Those sweet but always solid western ladies. The ‘child’ actors. This Tribute was sensitively, beautifully, and tastefully done. Never maudlin, always respectful. Some good laughs and a song or to as well, to balance our warm sadness of memories past.

This is so wonderfully done and it brought back so many heartfelt memories of watching all these wonderful people while I was growing up and as I became older, actually being lucky enough to cross paths with some of my favorite actors and actresses. What's really sad is the fact that many of these older actors and actresses are never noted on the news when they pass. I might be one of the biggest fans of westerns. I grew up watching every western I could that was on TV at the time. I was born in 1950 so you know I watched some of the best they ever made. I still watch a bunch of them now on the GRIT TV channel and the ME TV channel as well.and on some of the streaming services too.

As a kid growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, I was lucky in that I had a loving and great father who raised cattle and trained horses, so obviously we watched all the westerns on TV. When the Houston Fatstock Show & Rodeo came around every February, he would take us kids downtown Houston to the Sam Houston Coliseum to the rodeo to see and hear western stars such as Chuck Connors, Johnny Crawford, Michael Landon, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, James Arness, and others. Those are memories that I will never forget. God bless our western cowboy stars from a by-gone era.🐎🤠🐂

I want to thank Johnny Crawford for his service in the US Army, like Chuck Conners (Lucas in the Rifleman) who served in WW II. I met Johnny in Chicago not long ago and he was a fabulous gentleman I will never forget, as I was in his first fan club in the 1960's so I'm probably his oldest fan club member still around. I admired his wonderful musical talent in his final years also!
