Welcome to Adventure Around the World.
This program highlights the nature and biodiversity of different countries across the world.
Our special episodes ‘Adventure Around the World’ are about the Nature and Biodiversity of different parts of the world.
The Town Hall of Colombo
Iconic (Lotus) Tower
I started from Colombo at 7:30 am towards Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
This Elephant Orphanage is very famous for its various activities that include the breeding of Asian Elephants to increase their number.
We are heading towards that place.
This is a place of natural beauty.
Hills, trees, and water bodies are all here.
At the end of this path, there is a hilly river where elephants are bathed.
I have reached the end.
The elephants are already brought down in the water.
Many visitors come here to see these elephants and their management.
There is no alternative to conservation, since these animals are gradually disappearing from nature.
The more we conserve them, the better and more plentiful they will be.
I’m standing in front of a hilly spring river.
Elephants are brought here from the orphanage to bathe them.
This Elephant Orphanage was started in 1971 with only 5 elephants.
Now in 2023, their number has increased to 71.
Large animals like elephants, which are vanishing from nature, are being bred here to increase their population and release into the wild.
Sri Lanka is doing a good job with this task.
Bangladesh should also follow this work
We must take various initiatives to conserve the endangered animals around us.
Now is the time to take such initiatives, as they keep the nature good in various ways.
We must think about the welfare of nature, raise awareness about these animals, and take steps to increase their population.
They are taking the elephants that have been bathed.
The elephants are being reared and bred here very nicely and safely.
This enclosure has a mother elephant and two calves.
These calves are twin.
The mother elephant is 30 years old.
Calves were born 1 year and 3 months ago.
This place is called an orphanage because elephants come here in various ways.
One is breeding.
Their number is being increased through conservation in many ways.
Also, they often get sick in the wild.
Then they are brought in here.
If we can do this kind of conservation work in Bangladesh, these animals will improve along with our environment and nature.
On the way to Kandy, we came across a tree with lots of Bats, next to the hilly river.
This many bats are rarely seen together.
I’m standing in front of Kandy Lake, on top of the hill.
There is a royal palace over there, which was once active.
It is no longer used as a royal palace.
The last king of Sri Lanka was Sri Vikrama Rajasinha
He used to run his kingdom from here.
There is a Buddhist statue on top of the hill.
During his reign, this statue did not exist.
At that time, criminals were beheaded there.
This lake was also created during that period.
Now it is being maintained well.
This area has been improved and developed in an eco-friendly way.
The beauty of Kandy, and various eco-friendly activities, are all part of their heritage.
Which is why, they are well-maintained.
Our country also has such old traditions, which we can improve by maintaining them.
We can develop those places as tourist attractions.
Our young generation is not familiar with much of our history.
It is our responsibility to tell them these histories.
If we can do this, our future generation will be interested to step forward for the welfare of our country.
Now I’m heading to Victoria Hideout from Kandy.
It will take 1.5 hours to reach Victoria Hideout.
This path resembles our hilly regions a lot.
Like the trees and roads we have, it feels the same here.
A lot of trees are seen within the hills.
Victoria Reservoir and Sanctuary.
Now we are climbing the hill to see the trees and wildlife of this sanctuary.
A concrete road has been made to enter through this route.
The local name of this tree is ‘Kon’.
This tree is 70 years old.
Various types of wildflowers are here.
There are some thorny trees.
Climbing up this hill, we are seeing various types of native and exotic trees.
Maybe many years ago, these trees came here in various ways.
