There is no paid leave in the US. It depends completely on the company. Our politicians go with the “the company should do the right thing” over “we need to make sure the right thing is done” philosophy. We are allowed to take 12 weeks unpaid leave on FMLA, but not many can afford 12 weeks of no pay

Story 1: as a German, I truly pity new parents that need to work in the US. Maternity leave in Germany starts 6 weeks before due date as by law, and yes, parental leave is 14 months , maternity leave of 3 weeks after birth not counted in. Parental leave can even be sort of doubled if you choose to work only part time (so it‘s a partial leave).

@@cesaravegah3787 refuse to have babies? Looking at my own children, I cannot confirm that. I don’t think that parental leave policies actually effect birth rates. It’s more like education, and the awareness that women‘s bodies are more than birthing machines. Contraception helps, too. And for the record: there already are too many humans on this planet. Maybe we should distribute resources more fairly, and fight racism, before we advocate for even more people on this tiny ball in space.

A dear friend of mine had a baby last fall (cesarean) and while with her husband a couple of hours later, as they were in a hallway, she suddenly collapsed and died in his arms. She is sorely missed. Her daughter is doing great and her family and friends have been very supportive. It is terrible how pregnant women are treated in the workforce.

So my husband took all of his vacation, found a new job during this time which would give him paternity leave before he even started on his first day, so he worked until his vacation was over and then quit on the spot and then continued/started his couple weeks paid paternity leave before he started his new job, they even covered his health insurance in advance.

"Bless your heart" is a phrase common to the Southern United States.[1][2] The phrase has multiple meanings and is used to express genuine sympathy but sometimes as an insult that conveys condescension, derision, or contempt. It may also be spoken as a precursor to an insult to mitigate its severity. Meanings range from "you are dumb but can't help it" to "fuck you" and are primarily imparted through context and tone.[3] While common in the South, it is primarily used by individuals who wish to "be sweet” and do not wish to "act ugly."

Here in Germany paid parental leave is normally 12 months, but when the two parents split the it between them and one of them has less income after the leave period it can be up to 14 months. Three days is bonkers, and it seems that in the US these three days aren't even mandatory by law, but something the company gave them. The parents can request up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave by law (according to wikipedia), but they don't have a right to paid parental leave. The US are the only OECD country without a law guaranteeing parents paid parental leave.

If you are a great manager of a team, you basically have little to no managerial work to do. That's the beauty of being the boss with a decently large team. If you're running a tiny business then this doesn't apply so much, but when you have a whole team and you delegate and mediate properly, you tend to live a pretty stress-free work life.

The US has no labor laws regarding maternity or paternity paid time off. We do have the Family Medical Leave Act which protects employees’ jobs if they have to take up to 12 weeks leave for themselves or family member. Their health insurance must be paid for them during this time. It only protects a person’s job, it doesn’t require employers to pay the employee while they’re on leave.

On pressure at veterinary school: a friend of mine who will be retiring soon - in her sixties - from running her own veterinary clinic and surgery for decades, as well as having served on the State Veterinary Board, told me that people who flunk out of veterinary school... are usually admitted quite easily into medical schools for humans. So take all those hospital shows with interns and residents and the stress and lack of sleep - it's a cakewalk compared to veterinary school. I have reached the age where when they say "Your application for leave has been denied" I hear "I am stupid & don't know how leave works". Now days I politely remind them that I am not asking, I will not be available those days, this is your forewarning. I learnt this lesson when a previous employer told me the afternoon before I was to have 2 weeks off, that my leave had been denied due to staffing issues. I visited the doctor that afternoon and took the next four weeks off for mental health leave all of which was paid because I never get sick. I then quit forcing them to pay me almost $10,000 in accrued unused leave. Fuck that place. Also in Australia paid parental leave is not something an employer can say no to, it can also be months long.

KFC varies wildly from location to location. A few locations serve pretty good chicken. Most serve chicken inedibly salty, dry, and cold. Church's chicken is usually OK. though some are identical to KFC. Don't know about Popeyes or chick-fil As, , since their politics are anti-customer, and they MIGHT or might serve customers who have more melanin than their servers to avoid bankruptcy. But dark or olive skinned should not count on edible or safe food. I think these people, or at least their supervisors, from what I heard them say in Phoenix, want to kill you. I have visited these institutions only a couple of times, so I do not have a representative sample.

The number one job of a middle manager should be to take the heat for your competent employees so they can do things properly. And you should make sure that your employees are competent. That’s not to say you should come down heavily on employees who make a mistake once. You or a qualified employee should go over their mistake, how to avoid or fix it, and just make sure it isn’t repeated. One thing I have noted is that too many of these stories involve positions where there is only one person skilled in a task. This should be avoided, as bad things happen, and there should always be backup.

In story one. WTF is these vacation days and paternity leave amounts?! It's like nothing at all. Saving up and only being able to take time off for a month, that is the minimum allowed time off from work in Norway. It's mandatory that you have 3 weeks off in a row by law. Many are on vacation for 4 weeks and 1 week or 3-2. Almost everywhere you get 5 weeks off. And many get 6. Paternity leave is like over a year combined. It's like 14 months that can be divided between the parents how they would like(if twins you get 16 more weeks and if trippelts you get 46 weeks extra. This also applies for adoptions) it's all paid and you can put in applications for extra if you need or the kid has issues with a diagnosis. I'm guessing it's America this story is in, and it is disgusting how you can't get time off to care for a new born. Like does the mother have to have a baby and than just go straight back to work with an infant not able to take car of it self in any way shap or form?

A GOOD manager knows that when replacing a previous Manager, the WISE thing to do is spends a week or two just sitting there watching what goes on during the week to see how things work BEFORE stepping in to make changes...That way, they now see what's been happening, who does what, and what, if anything, needs improvement...more importantly, they know who to talk to about those changes before making them so any objections can be raised as to why the change won't work (Usually because it was tried before and was a COMPLETE Disaster)... The Bad Manager just doesn't do anything... The HORRIBLE managers start changing everything right from day one with an "I'm the Manager, you'll do what I say or be Fired!!!" Attitude... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣

Facts about the comments about management. The only thing management needs to do is to make sure they complete their management paperwork, ensure that any employee/customer/patient/providers are taken care of properly if any issues arise the regular staff can’t handle, to know how to do every job that they’re in charge of so when SHTF the manager can jump in at the worst area to help out (or wherever the technical group specifically needs extra help the manager is capable of doing in professional/specialized fields), and to properly delegate work to employees as it comes in to not overwhelm them with the stress. You only step in as a manager when there is a possible to probable danger to people/property, a crime is about to be or is being committed, someone is violating or about to violate company policy’s, and other times where people are doing stuff that is highly unorthodox/not normal but to go inquire about the reasoning behind it (because sometimes they may have a good idea or on the way to a good idea) that with both of your minds you may come up with a ground breaking idea/technique. Never just go into attacking your subordinates in front of others unless there is an immediate danger to life & limb of people but to only get the attention of everyone so that it can be a learning time and to prevent anything disastrous but don’t go into personal worker attacks at all or really rip them if they deserve it until behind closed doors with HR & other management to properly handle the situation. I’ve always made sure to take care of my workers and even have told my workers my bonus and sign a contract with them that they all can vote for peoples contributions of work to divide up the 25% of my bonus (no cap on how much that could be so the bigger bonus more for them to split and larger groups I went up to 40-50% but the bonuses where usually larger so it was around the same until the group started producing well above expectations.) that I would show them my previous quarterly bonus or that of my predecessor when starting with a new group. Only once did we have a super slacker that the group unanimously voted him out of the bonus because he would sleep, leave early, come in late, and would always turn in extremely subpar work that everyone else had to pick up his slack. So everyone got an even portion of his $1100 bonus that gave an extra $183 for each of their quarterly bonuses that I gave them from mine. I generally would always approve vacation and told them to book in advance to save money and we would all make sure that the rest of us would pick up the slack during each other’s vacations so they wouldn’t be bothered unless they where highly specialized on a project that needed to verify our work on his part but we would just send it to him and when his wife was in the spa he would do what he could based on how crucial it was needed regardless of the order it came in and would work on his laptop on trips to tourist sites when his wife would generally nap. Since he ended up finishing it quicker than we thought even though he didn’t need it the group all pitched him a day off of their time so he got an extra 6 days plus 2 weekend days to extend their vacation because his technical part was done and we didn’t have much left to finish. His wife and himself got everyone on the team a gift for when they got back from their vacation as a thank you, gave each person on the team a highly customized birthday present that year, and a really nice cultural gift from their extended vacation that probably fed a local family for a couple months per persons gift. When you have a good team and a good boss it becomes like a family that you all just help each other out and look out for each other even years later. I got tired of the managers & executives above me that seemed to lack basic common sense or problem of everyday folks that don’t make 6+ figures with bonuses starting in 5-6 figures so they are detached from the reality of their workers. I ended up going into business for myself and have a few side hustles that took initial work/maybe up to an hour a week for each side hustle with a large 4-16 hour push once every 1-6 months depending on the hustle. Most of them I take care of passively while dong other stuff I have to do anyways for my primary job/family and when there is enough I do a large push to increase the passive income. Life has been so much less stressful than running in the rat race.

Why does the USA not get better maternity laws? Easy answer, The governmental kickbacks would be significantly reduced, so those that represent the people's personal bank accounts would be affected.

Rob...I love your new chameleon graphic at the beginning of the video. If you created it, kudos...if someone else did, will you let us know who the artist is? I would love to commission him/her for some work! BTW...I LOVE your channel and listen to your videos as soon as I get the chance. When I see the little red dot next to Karma Comment Chameleon, I click on it right away :). Thanks for the work you put into your videos.

There are various configurations of the in Polite Company insult of 'Bless your heart" down here in the South, depending on your level of anger/pettiness at that moment of Time. It also helps if you have a Southern Drawl so sweet it'll make honeybees faint and folks teeth hurt just hearing them when pronouncing the words you chose. The worst one is "Why God Bless your ever-lovin little pea-pickin heart, aren't you just So Special.".......well now I just can't write the interpretation of that here, Momma havin taught me Manners and we bein in Polite Company and all, since it would break the InterWebz, but ya'll get my drift, I reckon.

Paternity/maternity leave varies greatly from company to company. You have the national guidelines but individual companies can grant however much they want. At one of my jobs the fella next to me had a baby and he took 4 or 6 weeks off, don't remember which.

Different parts of the usa have better baby birth time. In 2005 when my daughter was born I got 3 paid months. At 100% and could have gotten 3 months at 60% pay. Some states a you get about 5 months at 60% pay

Having met a lot of surgeons… human surgeons are assholes. No idea about vet surgeons of course, but. My internal medicine doc mom told me once “you gotta be at least a little bit off to be confident enough to cut someone open believing you can fix them with knives, forceps, and sewing needles. (She was of course joking here, but she wasn’t wrong.) There’s a harsh “I don’t have time for anything but my own personal x” in surgeons. Not heard of anesthesiologists being jerks though.

I was working at a call center, we worked normal work weeks. I asked for Friday off and got it. Then we switched project to one where we could be scheduled every day of the week. The moron scheduled me for Saturday (Monday off as compensation). I just told them that I would not show up, I would be happy to work Monday but I had asked for this vacation months before the new project. Then came Summer vacation, and I asked for two week after Midsummer (which is a huge deal here in Sweden) and the morons decided I had to work for ten hours on Midsummers day (a Saturday, at the beginning of my vacation). They really had no clue what so ever. My next employer was extremely confused when I asked for a vacation from Thursday to Sunday, where Thursday was a national holiday and we never worked weekends so it was all just one day of vacation.

The USA is 12 weeks ma/paternity. Companies don't have to pay it. My state just passed a law that began Jan 1st 2024 so we get 85% of our normal salary. I didn't make much at the time my first kid was born so I took 3 days off. I made more but we bought a new house so with our second kid I took a week off and later took a second week off. I wish I could have taken all my time off but without pay that was impossible.
