New Rule: No mentioning girlfriends, it makes the moderation team realize what they are and they get mad.

The fact that they think Reddit Karma is so valuable that someone else would want to exploit the death of someone close to them on a Minecraft sub speaks a lot to their delusions

This is awful on multiple levels 1:The fact that they removed a memorial post is awful 2: the fact that they consider 2 posts over 5 days to be “milking” the topic is awful and dumb 3: that first reason is so awful, I’m including it twice

The mod responsible even decided to hide behind the option to distinguish yourself as a generic mod team member in the deletion comments and did not identify themselves in modmail. This mod knew what they were doing. This mod knew they were in the wrong. This excuse of a socially functioning human being is despicable on levels that I did not even know were capable by a singular person.

Sometimes, I wonder "where do all of the 'Reddit mod' stereotypes come from?" and then I see shit like this and go "Oh yeah"

the way my jaw dropped at the "milking the death of your girlfriend" comment. that's a REAL person grieving and connecting with strangers in a way that also connected his loved one. this is vile. i wish Brendan all the best in his healing journey.

Imagine being so disconnected from reality you interpret someone talking about memorializing their deceased significant other as attempting to obtain fame on your fan page.

As someone who works within customer relations and communication, the message they send is a golden example of what NOT to send when communicating with someone you do not know on a personal level. It would be so simple to rewrite the message and be more respectful, or hell, even cut parts entirely. Something like "We're sorry for your loss, and the build was great, but we have rules against this type of post. While we do not allow this type of post by rule, there are plenty of other social medias that would love to see the tribute you've made. We wish you the best, and have a great day." That took me 5 minutes to write with minimal effort.

r/Minecraft carefully calculating ways to make people hate the subreddit even more than they already do

Update from over 1 year later, it still hasn't changed. I've gone through the posts the mods have removed and a LOT of them are actually decent posts you would see on any old subreddit. Yet they just remove them. I honestly have never seen worse reddit mods in my life, and I've had to deal with the mods of r/fivenightsatfreddys which are kind of notorious for being awful.

“You milked the death of your girlfriend for karma” really goes to show how out of touch with reality the mods are. Like this guy’s first assumption when someone posts a memorial online for their loved one is “well clearly they just want internet points thats all people use reddit for”

I got into contact with Brendan and he was really happy that I liked his memorial build. When I saw his reaction to the moderators removing it, I was absolutely disgusted. No one should have someone call a memorial karma farming or milking their death. That moderator and many others are terrible human beings.

The fact they said "milking her death for Karma" really shows thats just what they would do.

The most disgusting part is that r/minecraft would have done this themselves if anyone in their team passed and they would do it tenfold I give all support and love out to Brenden in the future

Moderator anonymity is such a cowardly and underhanded feature. You can't anon post if you're NOT a mod, so why should mods be able to anon post? It's like Reddit knows exactly how their moderators are but simply don't care.

Disallowing memorial posts for a dead loved one and not only calling it a tired discussion, but going as far as accusing the grieving party of "milking" their death for karma is just heartless. I can't even find the words for how disgusting this is, and I think he did a beautiful thing in placing art on his late gf's build to remember her by.

PSA: This apparently IS NOT the first time they've done this. This is NOT the first time they've told a grieving person that they were milking karma from a memorial post. THIS IS JUST THE FIRST TIME THEY GOT CAUGHT. HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. Their apology doesn't mean SHIT. They apologized because they got caught. They've offered no apology to the others they've done it to, nor have they removed the mod in question.

It’s not just this community. I’ve had far too many negative interactions with condescending and downright hateful Reddit moderators. Oh how little power it takes to go to someone’s head.

I hated how I was bullied in high school for being depressed about losing a family member, its not right to just ruin other people's lives with ugly sht like this when they are already down. They could of just let it slide as its raising awareness as well as simply someone looking for some help. I do understand the whole moderation side of it and there is logic behind what was done, but it doesn't morally justify what was done. Nothing could morally justify them just deleting the post.

As someone who lost a family member this Monday, the notion of leaving a mark to remember her by is something that almost brought me to tears. The fact that anyone would see this as an act of greed disgusts me.

Seeing an unfinished minecraft build from someone who’s passed away, and seeing a loved one of that person exploring it, has hit me with some pretty strong emotions. So, to see such an uncaring, and just plain mean response has to be one of the most soulless things I’ve seen.

The rule against chainposting is perfectly reasonable, there's so many things with so many parts that you can't keep track of them all: Series, large build wips, etc. but this is a clear case where you should just go "hey it's against the rules because blah blah but we'll make an exception, Condolences and we hope you'll understand the next chainpost will be deleted"

I don't use reddit anyway because moders have effectively made it impossible to make a post at all on the site unless you have at least 12k karma Moderators delete everything on that site, it's possibly the biggest echo chamber on the internet, Reddit sucks.

I think the only times I've gone to Reddit is when I've typed a question into a search engine and was given a Reddit post as a result. It's not a site I actively visit. I've always thought that what I've heard about Reddit moderators was overblown stereotyping. After seeing this video (recommended well over a year after it was released), then reading the Reddit posts & "the rules"(so vaguely written that it sounds like you could get banned for joining the site), and seeing that this situation has happened to more than one person, I'm left wondering why anyone uses Reddit at all?

Sharing the most sensitive moment in my life, seeing support, genuinely thanking people in a follow up post and then being shut down due to "milking the death of a loved one for Internet points" is down right disgusting and horrible. I don't know if my heart would break again since other people might be thinking of the same or filled with so much rage that my genuine grief is just dismissed. There are some lines you just should not cross even if it does break the rules. And this is one of those

welp presume no one will read this since its a year old video but my fiance passed a month ago. she really liked moss, so i made a moss-terrarium for her post humorously. i posted it in multiple terrarium groups on FB and reddit, and even in some goth groups. not once have i gotten a single mod to say its not on topic enough. if a mod accused me of "karma farming" i would go out of my way to drag that mod on every single subreddit im apart of. fuck that mod. puddingskin said it best, this post obviously reminded the moderator that they never have had a significant other so they got jealous that they will die a virgin.

As a content moderator myself, this infuriates me to no end. This kind of thing usually happens when there's a culture in the team to basically become numb to the people they're moderating as actual individual humans. Some divorcing of your emotions from situations is certainly needed to successfully do the job (we see some VERY graphic things and have vitriol and threats thrown at us constantly), but stuff like this speaks to a bigger issue. Typically you see this in heavy troll-targeted spaces with very little care on the part of owners for supporting the mod team's emotional health, especially on skeleton teams. It ends up being a neverending cycle of overworking, negativity, and resentment of the community. Some mods will just go with it because "that's what we do" and others will step away. The fact they're not really taking this as seriously as they should speaks to the need to not rock the boat. This kind of tension almost always ends in implosion and lashing out at the community, like you see here. You can't just change the policy to fix that. When it gets that bad, the whole team needs to be replaced.

Honestly he should just tell us the name of the mod. If he won't get banned by his friends then we'll just run him off the subreddit. If he tells us we can do that.

After a run in with various moderators on Reddit, I just stopped using it (as in commenting or posting). They were legitimately some of the worst people i’ve ever had the displeasure of interacting with… and considering the life I have lived, that is fucking saying something…
