On the occasion of the Independence Day of Bangladesh, DHAKA SESSIONS is honored to present Renaissance (রেনেসাঁ).
Renaissance (or referred as 'Renesa') the band really doesn't require any introduction. Naquib Khan, the artist who wrote of the most popular songs of Bangla pop music history - মন শুধু মন ছুঁয়েছে (mon shudhu mon chuyechey), along with four other talented musicians formed Renaissance in 1985.
The sounds of Renaissance is soft-rock with a touch of jazz. The band has the distinction of being highly successful in both Bangla and English genres; by blending eastern melodies with western harmonies. They are a band of rich improvisations of western rock, jazz, blues, and reggae influences. Songs such as ভালো লাগে জ্যোৎস্না রাতে (bhalo lagey jotsna ratey), আচ্ছা কেন মানুষগুলো এমন হয়ে যায় (achcha keno manush gulo emon hoyejaye), and হৃদয় কাদা মাটির কোন মূর্তি নয় (hridoy kada matir kono murti noy) are few of the most popular songs in Bangladesh within the modern-Bangla genre.
Renaissance has so far released four albums:
- রেনেসাঁ [Renaissance] (1988)
- তৃতীয় বিশ্ব (1993) [The song আজ যে শিশু (aaj je shishu) from the album was included in an album produced by/for UNICEF]
- একাত্তরের রেনেসাঁ (1998)
- একুশ শতকে রেনেসাঁ (2004) [The album was awarded Best Album of the Year at CityCell - Channel-i Music Awards]
Renaissance is not just a band of talented musicians, they are also a band that stands out for their humbleness, humility, empathy, and their devotion to their country. They are genuinely nice people, which makes them all Renaissance Men. - Lori Simpson
