When you say it's for emphasis, you're correct! Most of these things are! The issue is that there are SO _many_ *things* you can use for emphasis, but quotation marks are one of the few from among them that have a well-defined other use, and it interferes quite heavily with attempts to use them for emphasis.

as a professional editor, the horrible things I would do to whoever thought that quotations for emphasis was even remotely ok, much less that it should be taught that way in schools. it became popular around the turn of the 20th century and was taught that way into the 60's before everyone finally started coming to their senses. fortunately the people who write like this are rapidly either dying out or at the very least leaving the public eye, so people like me, who know better but wouldn't be allowed to educate the problem away, no longer have to deal with it as often. I'm not angry, just kind of saddened by public ignorance. that said I love this subreddit because it makes fun of preventable stupidity in a relatively harmless, witty, and creative way.

With the Shrimp Tips, that is absolutely intentional. Obvious Plant is famous for one thing only, and that's gag products which they place in stores, I think? which range from costumes to food to toys. They do pretty much anything and have a museum you can visit with a whole bunch of similar exhibits. One of their more well-known products is probably the pre-cracked egg.
