I watched all your vids regarding this welder. Great to watch and made me laugh with your throw away comments. Most importantly very informative. Thank you for taking the time to post!

Just a tip if your interested ...Add a slight angle to your gun and push the puddle and the soot will mostly all disappear. Straight on always makes a lot of soot on the sides of the weld, drag angle will cover the whole weld with soot but push is clean and pretty. A little forward and back forward and back makes a weld similar to a tig look.

thanks i will have a bit more play with torch angles

That weldment seems to have suffered the worst it could ever expect to face and survived, and that's all I need to know!

once befor you had a concern about phosgene in brake cleaner the propellent was I think was a cfc an r-12 leak detector "sniffer" burns the cfc and produces phosgene its a phosgene detector I was a mechanic your always learning in that job yup the spool gun fast, nice result the 13 amps is the good part a rhombic drive helium solar stirling engine powerd plasma cutter cutting aluminum of any thickness wow I I pay 9-10 cents a kwh and it still stacks up sunny days id pay nothing

So, a little pre-heat might improve the weld too then, bearing in mind these are experimental test welds?

Hi John, i've just purchased the R-TECH I-180 mig welder based on your previous review, as i wanted a machine with decent capabilities for hobby auto/home fabrication. Looking at this segment John, the I-180 seems to weld better on higher power/metal thickness, i suppose this down to the higher amperage heating the aluminium quicker. My questions are, in what circumstances would you use ally mig, and when would you use tig instead, and would an higher gas pressure reduce the sooting effect or is this down to the metal actuallybeing burned in the welding process? I'm a newbie to all this mate so all info greatfully appreciated, and i really enjoy your videos so keep them coming. ;0)

G'day John how would you suggest I go about learning to mig weld, I have never done welding before but it would be very handy to know how to do it in my work shop. I would appreciate your advice also on equipment needed for welding things like work benches ect, thank you regards John

John Kinnane, Buy a cheap stick welder and learn how to weld with it first, no investment in bottles of gas, regulator etc, if you master stick welding in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions then the move to mig welding is effortless, plus you have an additional welding skill, plenty videos on here as well to guide you through welding basics

What shield gas are you using? The soot (ie carbon) must come from somewhere! Is there CO2 in the mix?
@BestUserNameUK6 жыл бұрын
William Davis It's pure Argon for ally welding.

Mechanic that pisses about describes many of us...The real test of a weld is when you load it heavy and then stand under it.
