for the clearing barrel one the letters "ND" stands for Negligent Discharge. for example if you fire off a live round or a blank without a proper target or at something, someone, or pointed anywhere even accidentally is very VERY frowned upon and will get you in very hot water. ive seen and heard it happen many times, and the person that had the ND got yelled at for a long ass time.

The double wicket door looks like a great option for cat/dog households. Not so much households with small children, as bathrooms are so often used as "quiet time" & kids are not nearly as enjoyable to have warming your lap while pooping in the winter. I take muscle relaxers for spine pain & painsomnia, so when I get up to pee in the middle of the night, I will often fall asleep on the toilet. My bathroom door is always open (live alone with my cat) since after 5 min, my cat will come paw/yowl me awake to come back to bed. He sleeps between my knees (where I have bone death/avascular necrosis), keeping them warm like a mild heat pack, so he really is a more like a service cat than an ESA; he refuses to leave the house, though, so no need to challenge the definition (not that his self trained "services" can be used out side the home anyway).

5:57 OOOH THIS IS ACTUALLY REALLY INTERESTING ok, for context here - I am an archaeology grad from Yorkshire. bone tools have been a thing for AGES (i mean it’s an easy to get material and can be worked with stone tools, so it’s something humans have been doing for like…forever. also holds up pretty well), so this is sick as fuck. we also have a lot of seaside towns with a lot of development coming from the Victorian era, with houses and hotels popping up a lot. a lot of these towns were also fishing and whaling towns, and stuff like whalebones were used a LOT in the victorian era for stuff like high-end corsets, as they’d be used to make the boning, basically the sticks in a corset that make it work. there’s also a giant fucking whale jaw arch in my favourite one of those various towns (Whitby - it’s across the harbour from the abbey) but yeah, really cool, especially with the context of Yorkshire and use of bone as a material

20:20 A minor correction to Lexi, clearing is more meant for the removing of a chambered round. You are correct in always treating the weapon as loaded and using the clearing chamber to lock the slide back on an empty weapon. The clearing chamber is also used to load a round into the chamber. NG stands for Negligent Discharge, which I believe is any discharge that was not caused by a malfunction or was not intentional. And I think an unintentional discharge would be if there was a weapon malfunction causing it to go off, not entirely sure if they are separated like that or both are considered a NG. If a weapon fires when it shouldn't be fired, someone will most likely get in trouble unless it can be shown it was a malfunction and that maintenance was properly done. Discharging the weapon because the ship was swaying certainly would not be a valid excuse, with a minor possibility of leniency if you got thrown against a wall with a witness testifying the safety was on before you were thrown.

26:30. That mirror might just be used on street corners in the cities. "Dak" means roof. The higher angle allows for greater field of view. "Kant" means the side of something, but we use that word to point out the street corners sometimes. "Aan Die Kant" or On That Side. And the world "Spiegel" means mirror. So basically it might be used to see both angles of the street for both sides.

When you mentioned that the door didn't look durable enough to be used for that kind of thing, it reminded me of this: My grandpa did woodworking stuff, and he was once tasked to make an extra thick door to be used at a mental institution, or something like it. But the forklift operator accidentally hit the door instead of the pallet, and the piece of wood was then too thin, so he had to order a new one. He ended up using one of the halves to make a dining table that ended up being placed in the cabin he built by hand.

Answer for 1:13 is incorrect. It's not a clock. It is a marble ballot box for blind votes. They're correct that the "back" is actually the front, but not for a clock face. There are shelves inside the circular hole that would hold black and white marbles. One puts their hand into the round hole, selects a marble for their choice (eg. White means yes, black means no), the round entrance is so you can insert your hand and make your selection without anyone else seeing which you picked, above the shelves there is a hole in the box to drop a marble into the back section with the covered glass window. Once everyone has cast a vote the panel covering the glass window is opened and the marbles are counted without opening the box and handling the marbles, so there is no chance of tampering as the box remains sealed. I actually think they're super cool and a great way for a small-ish group to cast a blind vote. Super interesting design.

20:14 ND means "negligent discharge", which USUALLY means your firearm went off due to carelessness or a mistake on your part, as opposed to "accidental discharge" where it's a mechanical fault or otherwise something you could not have controlled, like a hangfire. Key note: just because it might technically be safe to let off a round into those stations does not make it okay to do so. I would assume that they're there "just in case" of a ND or a mechanical failure, so that no one gets hurt. It doesn't make it okay to fire into one, even by mistake, because you shouldn't be making those kinds of mistakes with firearms in the first place.

20:10 ND or Negligent Discharge (Same thing as Unintentional) The point of the device is so that if you do ND while unloading your weapon (Almost always after training), it will be inside a "safe" place. But having a ND in the first place is a very big no no, so doing it right where everyone else is (especially your commander/boss)... You're gonna get a chewing out, and likely Article 15'd (commander issued to reprimand you for misconduct).

19:46 The way clearing barrels are used are to check the gun to see if it its loaded or not (If it is then you would eject the round out of the gun). These are meant to stop a bullet in case of a Negligent discharge, so for someone to get an article 15, is a bit excessive.

17:30 The word you were looking for was "flip phone", or "dumb phone". I now feel like some ancient mummy because when I grew up that was just what cell phone MEANT. Edit: Also, ND in this context means negligent discharge. Means the same thing as accidental, except that the only way to have an accident in this context is by being negligent with something that demands far more care, which the terminology is meant to drive home. Edit again lol: No, they meant production photography - using photography as a step in printing. Unreadable means it's still backwards from the camera's apparatus, which is normally reversed in producing the positive, but when you're doing production photography, you need the negative to be readable - not-backwards - which uses this apparatus to do. I am not well versed enough in the process to explain this in any higher detail though.

Hi Lexi if you're reading this, versed in firearms and whatnot due to growing up target shooting and hunting. "ND" stands for "Negligent Discharge". Which actually is different from an AD or Accidental Discharge, as an ND is categorized as being due to negligence of the operator, EG not making sure the firearm is clear when dry firing ox mixing live ammo with snapcaps. Comparatively, an AD is due to a mechanical failure of the firearm (EG how Sig P320's are in the news again after that one video of the police officer's duty firearm went off while in the holster hit the net), however AD's can be ND's if the mechanical failure is due to negligence on the part of the owner and there's a whole field of case law in determining that distinction.

The rule about any gun being potentially loaded is a good one. In the army we had a simple solution for this so we didn't have to keep clearing our weapons once inside a secure location. We had these things we called "flags", orange florescent/translucent plastic rods in the shape of an L that you would insert into the breach with the long end inserted into the barrel. The bolt was then released so it rested on the on back of the flag holding it in place. Because it was clear florescent orange it stuck out like a sore thumb and caught the light. Doubled to ensure the barrel was clear since you could shine a light down the barrel and the flag acted as a light guide and would glow with the light coming down the barrel. With these in you didn't have to constantly have your weapons checked in a clearing barrel. I've seen them in white plastic as well, pretty sure there are other versions as well under other names. Ive also seen them for pistols.

20:20 ND probably stands for "negligent discharge", and I believe they're saying that if you mess up clearing the weapon such that the station actually has to do its job (catching the bullet), you are severely punished. Article 15 is a provision for allowing a commanding officer to determine the guilt of a subordinate and select punishment on their own rather than initiating a court marshal. I usually see article 15 being described as for "minor violations", but I would not use that phrase to describe negligent discharge of a firearm.

My brother tested their quality control by submitting the following: 'FOR SALE. Teasmade. 30' long; Steel steps. £5' It appeared in print, unaltered. Luckily, nobody required a thirty foot long teasmade with steel steps. 😆😆😆

19:29 This user is referenceing how the US army handled gun clearing procedures. If you negligently discharged (ND) a round into a clearing barrel there was heavy consequences for you and everyone in your unit. Hundreds of people all going though a gun clearing and disassembly course because one guy screwed up. Welcome to The Army.

23:07 "...it's supposed to let you know if a storm is coming... like, if you get a low pressure, that's usually a sign that a front could be coming through and usually you get bad storms around that" this thing ain't that special, I have a built-in headache that triggers just before bad storms due to low pressure too!

I immediately identified the solid perfume! They sell it around here and my dad bought it once, it smells awesome but I never knew how to use it, glad to know now.

9:50 Batik, not Batique... It spelled like "Batique" tho... The tool is called a "Canting" (Spelled like Chanting but with an Ah sound instead of a Æh sound). Batik is a Traditional Fabric Art from Indonesia, specifically it was the cultural heritage of the the Sundanese, Balinese and Javanese Ethnic Groups... Now almost all Ethnicities and Tribes in Indonesia have incorporated their own ways and patterns of Batik. Batik is also a UNESCO protected Heritage There are also very cool "US Emblem Eagle" ones that was famously worn by President Ronald Reagan when he visited Indonesia... I've seen some people from US Embassy to Indonesia wore that pattern

Ay guys, collective, can people recommend bureau setups? You lot seem knowledgeable on antiques and historical culture. I have an antique dated between 30s and 50s, gorgeous mahogany that I've recently been using for writing. It has three partitions slightly smaller than A5 paper, 2 small drawers, and 4 shelves (drawer is inder shelves) on the inside. Outside it has 3 large drawers. Current setup is storing envelopes in one partition, leather journal in another, and wax paper in the third. It is too small to hold my quill, so the quill is lying sideways which I know isn't ideal. Drawers are used for nibs and keys, shelves are used for was beads, candles, seal heads, etc. Big drawers mostly have paper, spare pens, etc. It isn't particularly comfortable, just the best I could come up with, hence me thinking it is a wrong setup

btw, the post about the clearing station from the coast guard, ND means Negligent Discharge, slightly different from AD (accidental discharge) and it's usally a pretty fucking big deal to have one and people will chew your ass if you ever have one

Why did it need a police escort, how often do people steal 20,000 pound jet engines?? Whos building a homemade space shuttle in their back yard😭

I would guess the police escort is not so much to prevent theft as it is to make way for the oversized and probably slow transport, and to make sure people don't crash into it.

ND = "Negligent Discharge." A form of accidental discharge where the handler is explicitly to blame, especially in a legal capacity.

20:10 ND stands for Negligent Discharge. Basically, when you forget gun safety and do stupid shit with a gun, a fuckup occurs and it fires. Negligent Discharge.

19:39 So the device is designed to prevent negligent discharge, but if you use it for its intended purpose you get article 15?
