A short video of the Automated Announcements for the 42nd street Shuttle Line in Midtown Manhattan - Between Grand Central 42 street and Times Square 42 street. The announcements were recorded in the unusual event that they used a NTT (New Technology Trains) on the line.
Did my best to restore the audio from a clip i got sent, not sure if this program is still in the 142s so Enjoy!
Audio clip recorded sometime pre 2010.

This sort of announcement is now bound to happen with the R262s coming. Million dollar question is, would this exact announcement be recycled (assuming it's still buried in the R142s) or would a new one be made (perhaps with Velina's voice)?

Except the East Side Access will already be open by then, so the new GC connection announcement would be: “Connection is available to Long Island Rail Road, and Metro North.”

Transfer Is Available to The Shuttle To Grand Central. Connection Is Available to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. This Is an Accessible Station. The Elevator is At the Center Of The Platform”

Well, now that the 42nd street shuttle has been revamped to accommodate 6-car trains, this also means it has the potential to run a 5-car R142! Depending on what lines the R262s will be assigned to, some of the 5 line's R142s might* go to the 42nd street shuttle! * this may not be true, its just a thought at the moment

@@themtarailfannerdude Buddy, the 42nd street shuttle is going to receive r262's. If you look closely at the order (1,364 cars), you can tell that the number is uneven. This means that there is R262's for the shuttle.

The shuttle doesnt run new trains, so it would be useless. The line is literally two stops, so they shouldnt bother wasting time

I wander how many cars/coaches will be there when ntt come in. Will they retrofitted to 3 coaches or extend the station to 5 cars like they planning to do.

The plan is for 15 R142As from the 4 to be converted from 5-car sets to 6-car sets. The R62As will be displaced to the 6. Future fleet plans will grow out of the developing R262 contract.

@@TheRailLeaguer if they were any R142's on the 42nd Street Shuttle then it would lose capacity by 16% because R62A's are in 6-car sets and no seating for more standing capacity Not to Mention the MTA has to take some R142's off from the 2 or 5 plus converting them into 5-car sets and it would be a chaos The 42nd Street Shuttle Will get 24 R262's in 6-car sets plus more standing Capacity

Only if NTT operate on it. Usually they use R46s which don't have announcements.

@Gueli844 hmm last I heard is when the S 9 and 8 routes are selected, there is no program to select, just an empty list. I'll have to ask around and see if it was updated recently.

Pretty sure that the shuttle will receive NTTs when the R262s are delivered.

For now, the plan is for 15 R142As in 6-car consists with 3 cars hiding in the shop for repairs, with the R62As transferred to the 6. Future plans will grow out of the developing R262 contract.

Only 2 tracks and they're not connected to each other. Plus, there are only 2 stops so CBTC would have no need here as there are also only ever 2 trains on the line at a time and as stated, the tracks don't connect.

8 is only an unused roll on the 62s. Never used on NTT.

@Elijah broomes because the 9 was an actual route when the 142s were around. The 142s had their programs made in 1999 and the 9 stopped operating in 2005

The 8 trains are definitely not gone because it's still in the system and like you said the 9 trains is still in the system. No matter how much they removed the Thrid Avenue Elevated line and removing the 9 trains from service.

No 40, 44, 46, 160, 179. Only 62, 142, 188 as they're A Division like the Shuttle. The first cars mentioned are B Division cars so they won't fit on the Shuttle. The only Shuttles they would work on are Franklin Ave (S) or Rockaway Park (H internal, S public).
