@@AzAzMusic actually i saw videos that speculated what could happen with the R262 car assignments. One possibility is that they could go to the 2, 3, 4 and 5 express lines because it would make more sense to have the trains with higher capacity on the express lines. This would displace the R142 and R142A units currently on the 2, 4, and 5 lines to the 1 and 6 lines, with the 3 line possibly receiving R142 trains as well. Another possibility is for the 4, 5, and 6 lines to receive the R262 trains. Knowing that Lexington Avenue is one of the busiest subway lines in the system, it would also make sense to have the higher capacity trains run there. This would push the R142 and R142A trains currently assigned to the 4 and 5 lines over to the 1 and 3 lines, which haven’t got a chance to use new tech trains before.

@@AzAzMusic just because the 1, 3, and 6 lines currently use R62 and R62A trains doesn’t exactly mean that the R262 trains would be solely for those lines. Think about it, the R160 order replaced the R40 trains, but R160s did not go to lines like the A and B trains, which ran them at the time.

P Jay i mean the r62s & r62As still run well they’re only 30-34 years in service. If its only AC woes they can stay in service for another 5-10 years

If you have ever commuted on the 1 line you would know why. Most of the R62As have either no AC at all or pathetically weak AC.

Agent Ninja They’re structurally fine. They are one of the systems most reliable cars. The R32s and R42s should’ve been retired a few years ago, but due to other cars having structural issues and L train shutdown-related service increases, the retirement will have to wait longer.

MTA System One problem: Where do you propose they take that R142A on when no one wants to give up their NTT cars. Instead, they should make the R62A assignments like this: (1): 1926-1960, 2161-2475 (350) (35 trains) (6): 1651-1900, 1961-2160 (450) (45 trains) (S): 1901-1908, 1910-1925 (24) (24 *3- and 4-car trains) *Will be reconfigured in the near future. Once all said and done, two 6-car trains will operate independently on each of the soon to be two tracks of the line.

@@TheRailLeaguer Now you're bothering me with this. THE 2 LINE. That line shares 1,080 cars with the 5 Line. With some just sitting in 239th, East 180, and Unionport Yards. They can run a set to South Ferry and turn it into a 1. Simple. THink before you comment. The 1 runs with the 2.

R160B D Train Productions The actual number is 815. Also, there are enough R62As on the 1 to handle weekday and weekend needs on that line. No need to borrow unless it’s for weekend loaners due to construction and/or extra service.

With the way the 2 and 5 operate, no. Aside from the 1 having enough trains to make service under normal circumstances, new stock can directly replace the R62/As when the time comes.

That means need to make a strip map for it
