Stainer is SO underrated. Notice around 9:20 how he gradually guides the band back into time with the samples and then hits it at 9:38.

not exactly what happened - each section of the song's vocals are triggered by Ian. so when John played that fill, out of time verse sample ended, and Ian retriggered the chorus back in time. the samples do not continuously play from verse to chorus, they are different samples that are manually triggered by Ian.

The funny thing about Whiplash is the bloody bits were all in the wrong part of the hand. Like the between the thumb and the Finger. Holding a drum stick doesn't ever touch that part of the hand.

If I were BATTLES, it would be in my contract that every venue have a couple GIANT fans on stage. These guys sweat more than road-workers. Great video, excellently shot.

a real BATTLE of trying to stay in time..is what it is
@1777DK4 жыл бұрын
It would appear that the drummer has his click in the monitor, rather than an earpiece (the bass players looks like he is trying to catch the down beat at one point). Why you would do this, with such a huge margin for error i beyond me. He clearly needs that click to be more defined to him …

YES i noticed that too! For example at 9:20, the girl singing is not coinciding with the drumming and the rest of the song.

John Stanier is an incredible drummer. He's one of my very favorites. I love how he has that one cymbal so high on his kit. A true original. And I love his intensity. Battles is an awesome band. It's hard to listen to "regular" more conventional music after listening to them because they are so good. They are operating on such a higher, more enlightened level than most other groups.
