Will the Camco Eaz-Lift Recurve R3 distribute more weight than the Andersen Weight Distribution hitch? And if so, how much more weight will it distribute? In this episode, I put our Eaz-Lift Recurve R3 back on our Lance 1985 and take it to the CAT Scale to see exactly how much weight it will distribute and how much more than our Andersen.

With any WDH, the amount of weight to be distributed depends on the tension you have set. The Andersen is easily adjusted with a socket wrench; more, or less weight is distributed depending on how tight you pull those chains. You could have removed just as much weight with the Andersen as with the Recurve, just tighten those chains. Andersen does not advertise their WDH as a sway controller with WDH as a feature; quite the opposite. FWIW, I've used and Andersen WDH for over 10 years.

Great video. I have found that if I add say half a tank of freshwater to the freshwater tank (which is located in front of the trailer axles on my Lance 1685) that will minimize if not eliminate the trailer sway as it puts a little more weight on the tongue. The only reason that I added a weight distribution hitch is that it reduces the vehicle porpoising when the trailer tongue decides to bounce for some reason. I have never used trailer sway correction as I prefer to just load the trailer correctly. With that being said, I also tow with a Diesel 3/4 ton pickup as well. Your results may vary depending on your tow vehicle. My WD hitch is an old Reese system with trunnion bars, but it seems to work OK. Maybe it is just me, but I am a little cautious of adding too much spring tension to the WD hitch bars out of concern of damaging todays lighter trailer tongue frames.

Run a Blue Ox Sway Pro, mainly because it's really well US made, easily upgradable and super easy to make adjustments on. It's more of a sway correcting than preventing system, so it takes a little getting used to but it works really well. It's pretty much noiselesss and can be backed with no issues as well.

We sold our Anderson Hitch sadly it didn’t work for us. We didn’t have any stability, it was scary. My husband did all the adjustments. Our trailer swayed to much with little wind. My son told us about the weigh safe hitch. Wow! What a big difference. We have way more stability. Our trailer weighs dry weight 6,000 pound’s. We have the knowledge about tongue weight. I think the Anderson is for lighter trailer weight. I reached out to Anderson Company about our situation and we’re very helpful, they said that other people like me were experiencing the same issue and that it’s not for everyone. We needed more.

We ran an eazlift 3000 on our Jayco 32' trailer and the sway control was awesome. There was a bolt that you tightened or loosened while connected depending on how much sway control you needed, so it provided both weight distribution and excellent sway control. Living in TX and traveling across TX panhandle you need good sway control and ours provided it.
@TravelswithDelaney

This one also has that adjustment as well. It worked well too with sway. What I really like about the Andersen is you don't have to remove it to back up and its not noisy going through the campground like the bar systems tend to be.

Excellent video. Thank you for sharing all of this valuable information. And helping me understand some of this a lot better. We have a small camper we will be towing with an SUV. We are researching mainly sway control. And yes, after reading some information on Andersen's website, seemed like they correct sway and bounce. However many other YT videos we have watched, keep calling it a weight distribution system. So your video cleared that up considerably. We originally were thinking about the single arm sway bar systems (Curt, Reese, and a few others make what appears to be same thing). But you get what you pay for I am sure. Our little camper does seem to bounce a bit. So I am thinking this Andersen might be the ticket. Our goal is sway & bounce control. But seems like we would gain a small percentage of weight distribution as well. Cool. Thanks again. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Nice to hear from someone who has years of experience versus first time RV'r (who probably is guessing much of the time). I hate to pick.....but we just watched an Andersen review from dwellBig, and we were kinda taken back by some of the statistics of his circumstances (and choices) during the use of his Andersen. But anyways...I digress. LOL Thanks again.

Is my Tab 400 too small for an Anderson system? I pull it with a 2003 Yukon Denali. I have the one bar system, now. Before I watched your videos on weight distribution, I almost lost my camper when it started swaying! Scared me to death! 💀 it was my first trip, going up a hill, on I 80, in western Iowa. I had everything in my vehicle and nothing in the camper. I was a newbie who learned real quick! That was the last time I pulled it with my Buick Enclave!
@TravelswithDelaney
@TravelswithDelaney Жыл бұрын
When we had our 400, we just used a single friction sway bar and that seemed to work well for us. We can look at your trailer when you come to Angola. I know the tongue on the 400 is pretty small so I am not sure if we could get the hangers back far enough for the Andersen or not. I can look at it for you.

HI Patrick, I my one ton ford van has a sticker on the receiver stating you need a WDH hitch for any tongue weight over 500 pounds. The only WDH available on my Oliver trailer is the andersen so that is what I have. I have pulled the Oliver with and without the Andersen and cannot tell the difference and I'm sure the big tow vehicle is the reason. However, I continue to use the Andersen because I don't want to have to explain to a jury why I disregarded Ford's engineering advice.

Now the question is, can you go an additional thread or two on the Andersen and get the same results as the Eaz-Lift? That is one of the great things about the Andersen, it is easily adjusted by tightening a nut on both sides. Would love to see a video attempting that...

The nice thing about the Andersen is if you need more weight distribution, just add a turn to the 2 nuts. No need even to unhitch. I have found that even a half turn on nuts can make a difference. Try adding 1 turn on nuts on Andersen & re weigh to see how much weight that adjustment moves. The Andersen is basically infinitely adjustable for your load. Have a 2017 Lance 2285 & the Andersen works great !! Would never go back to my camco recurve set up. Hated dealing with the spring bars. Safe travels.

We used an Anderson hitch for our Rockwood trailer weighing dry weight 6,000 pounds. It swayed to much even with little crosswind. We sold it and have way better stability with the safe weigh hitch. Night and day difference. The Anderson probably works better with lighter trailers. My husband did all he could to adjust the Anderson, didn’t work. Sadly it didn’t work.

@@Berrypancakes229 Andersen works great on my 6,000 GVWR Lance. It's all about the set up. Chains too tight & can make trailer nose light. A half turn on nuts can make a big difference.
