Scary thing about this scene, is that an event like this actually happened when two a10s piloted by US air force fired upon the British military resulting in one death.

This is a tiny glimpse of what the guys in 1st battalion Royal Canadian Regiment must have gone through. In September 2006 a company of theirs got strafed by accident by an A-10. 1 guy died and around 30 were wounded. The guy who died was Mark Graham a former Olympian.

This is why we have Marine Air. The A-10s severely underperformed in Desert Storm while the Harriers performed better than anybody expected. USAF command turned A-10s away from high risk areas while the Marines flew in head first and destroyed Iraqi artillery sites without regard to their safety.

This is a good lesson for life. No matter how messed up things might be… keep moving.

I read the title and knew this wasn't gonna end well. The words "A-10" and "friendly fire" are two things that should never be seen together.

My dad had a friend since school, and he joined the British Military to join the Gulf war. He was in an armoured division and was shot down by an American plane that was on his side.

It's really terrible that the forces themselves shoot their own forces, but the war is more terrible than it is. It's really a beautiful film that shows the reality of the war

Worst thing about friendly fire is how demoralizing it is and how paranoid the soldiers can become because of it, imagine first thinking "yay, here comes the air force, out best friends" but then later going "I don't want to call in the air force because they killed my fellow brothers-in-arms, if I ever see one of those pilots i'm going eye-for-an-eye".

The Marines must have marched into a Red strike zone (Which is within a kill box) without realizing it. A Kill Box is an area grid of 30 miles and 30 miles which is then sub divided into 4 square areas of 15 miles by 15 miles call strike zones.. There are 2 types of Kill boxes red and green....A Green box means that no strikes are permitted because of friendlies....A Red kill Box is a free fire zone for Attack planes and bombers. Meaning that anyone entering the box is fair game (The Military jets did not have an IFF thing for ground troops.).....That's my guess on what has happened here.

Like seriously, calling a medivac is nice and fine, but how about calling the pilots off, first? At that range they engaged, visual identification should have been possible already. Still they opened fire. There really was no reason to NOT expect a second attack. And a third, for that matter.

For anyone wanting to know. A-10 didn’t go around killing everyone. It only had 4 known friendly fire incidents in its entire career.

Its actually sad to watch this because this happened a lot during desert storm. And also a side note for some reason a lot of friendly fire happened because of the javelin anti-tank system as well.

So honestly just curious and looking for someone who knows more about the military then me to answer a question. Why did they fire on the Marines? Is it because Fowler broke rank and ran way ahead of the other guys and that made the pilots think they were enemy since that isn't what Marines are trained to do? Or was it just a fuck up in communication and overanxious pilots trying to get into the fight? I swear guys, I'm not trying to start anything or piss anyone off. I just honestly want to know. And also, if Fowler broke rank like that and just ran ahead screaming macho man shit, what would be the consequences? I mean that shit is by no means allowed in the Marines correct? I understand that he was probably just excited as hell and being a moron but holy shit, that seems like a major breach of the Marine's protocol. Like I said, not in the Army/Marines/Navy/etc, just actually legitimately curious.
