In this video, we take to the range and talk about the history of the Colt 9mm SMG series. Based on the original XM177 carbine and more recently the M4, the Colt family of 9mms has been on the market since 1985.
We begin with the R635 SMG, and its civilian semi-only counterpart; the LE6450 carbine.
Next we take a look at the so-called 'briefcase' gun, the R633 used most famously by the Department Of Energy (DOE). Here we have an original Colt upper with 7" barrel, on a LAR9 lower made by Rock River.
Finally, we wrap things up with Colt's current production carbine model, the AR6951. It is the semi version of the R991/992 9mm SMG.

Misha, the *Colt Commando SMG {Colt 9mm Submachine Gun}* is a really neat weapon I came to own a few years ago when my dad got sick & gave me his firearm collection. I've never had a malfunction despite it been pre-86 with select-fire {I cant believe one recently sold at auction for 31k} I already own several select-fire rifles & SMGs, including some I may NEVER USE like the Uzi, mini-Uzi, the Sten plus some other's, but my dad felt so deeply about the option to go buy an automatic weapon that he put a lot of money into buying select-fire rifles with AR10 & AR15 "spare/extra parts" like lowers & uppers that came in kits & were un-boxed after 35 - 40 years & basically all the 'innards'' required to lawfully build some really neat, modern styled ARs around those legally owned "machine guns" bought in the early '80s for a few bucks. When dad passed, we had just finished rebuilding my 2A U.S flag wrapped, semi-auto AR around one of those kits he bought pre-86. I also have 3 ARs bought by HIS dad in 1960 - It's amazing to think 2 of my best hunting rifles are 39 & 61 years old with today's cosmetics, lol - He had given me these before he passed away at just 69 yrs old in 2015. My dad loved shooting & if he saw a neat weapon on TV or at a show, he had to have it. The Colt Commando was his home defense rifle, although it's a SMG. I like it for this too but with one just selling for $31k, I should store it with other expensive weapons that can't be replaced, in the gun room in our storm shelter/underground maze here in Oklahoma. I have some weapons ready for auction including matching revolvers & rifle with a family name engraved on them but I absolutely REFUSE TO SELL a select-fire weapon to someone I feel won't have the same respect for it that my dad & I do, appreciating that they are historical weapons that won't be available again. But I'll never sell this amazingly cool & comfortable SMG Commando that feels sort of like an AR-P. It's a really beautiful gun. What a great home defense weapon, for my home, maybe not for some. I always wanted an AR-P with the select-fire option & this is the closest il get to anything like it - 𝐈'𝐦 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 getting my FFL & 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐮𝐧smith who I'm working under. 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 & 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 & 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐲 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧'𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 & 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, like the SMG above chambered in .45acp or .556. How awesome would this be? This lightweight compact weapon encompassing the same straight line construction and design as the 𝐌𝟏𝟔𝐀𝟐/𝐀𝟒 𝐑𝐢𝐟𝐥𝐞 is to me, easy to keep on target on full-auto because of the low recoil from 9mm. {Dad also left me an M2 .50 cal that he got many years ago when a neighbor needed a vehicle & told dad he would swap him an old M2 he had for dad's old truck so they swapped, just a few yrs after dad returned from Vietnam. He had this in the bed of his "1974 F-250 4x4 Highboy" which was customized to be the workhorse on our property. Because of its weight, he just left it back there in the bed. He even went to town a few times with it & everyone knew dad & loved him so nobody got nervous. Even the sheriff came out to hunt hogs with the M2 & other machine guns from the bed of the Highboy & other vehicles, even horseback - Just like we use ATVs today with automatic weapons with Thermal scopes or "O lights" which light up the field}

Very cool :) I'm almost done putting together my DOE clone. I'm building it as a pistol, using a KAK Shockwave 2.0 Blade brace, and I am also considering adding a binary trigger to it ;)

The Colt XM635 was a 9x18mm experimental version of the .223 & 5.56x45, XEM16A1 it was filed tested by the Army Green Berets Special Forces in 1974 along with the MX177 - CAR -15 Commando 5.56x45. They where looking for a Carbine version of the M16A1. What they came up with was the 5.56x45 M4 Carbine in 1984 .The XM635 is considered a Submachinegun.

I'm in love with the 633. So ugly it's pretty. Though, it would look better with one of the Shockwave braces in my opinion.

Agreed, actually I say in the video that i put the SB15 on it just because I had one in the spare parts bin. I fully intend to replace it with a Shockwave whenever another one comes my way, cheers.
