Thankyou . Its actually a song made on king ashoka 's life but with a fictional Touch you know . The woman in the beginning with the king is his newlywed queen Devi but the emperor is dreaming about the girl in red Scarf named Kaurwaki ,who is his first lover but king thinks kaurwaki is dead. The tanned girl with curly hairs is just a dancer . Kaurwaki is waiting for the king to return but she is unaware that he is the king .

It deserved to be a flop, because historical movies are not made this way,here the focus was on eroticism and aesthetics, rather than on historicity and true ashokan legacy, alas a great oppurtunity was lost, one should learn from western countries on how historical movies are made.Movies like Benhur, cleopatra, Julius caesar or the recent troy, are considered all time classics, there they do extensive research and depict history as authentic as possible, minutest details are taken of, be it architecture, music, costumes or other paraphernalia , and strictly no dancing around trees ..Never one should tinker with history, in the name of cinematic liberties

@@narsimharaoganta5335 I agree with your sentiment. But they didn't do a good job with Troy by eliminating the Gods from the movie. One of the best things about Iliad is how the Gods took sides just like they did in Mahabharata. Brad Pitt was miscast. But Eric Bana's performance as Hector was wonderful. You might want to check out Kingdom of Heaven based on the last days of the Kingdom of Jerusalem during the Crusades. Orlando Bloom plays Balian who defends it from Saladin. The director Ridley Scott did a good job. But he too fictionalized the real story. Similar to what they did here with Ashoka.

Asoka is thousand times better than bahubali. VFX effects makes Bahubali one of the greatest Indian movie. Asoka came in the era when Indian viewers didn't demand historic movie but only romance and comedy. Everyone had performed very well in the movie. A great movie from the Red chillies

I met Santosh Sivan at a film workshop, and I remember him telling us that he actually went to Orissa to research and uncover Kalinga's history; the people there demonized Asoka, and glorified Karuvaki, a fisherman's daughter, for standing up when Magadha attacked. I love that this film explores themes such as compassion, honour, and self-effacing love, and traces the origins and spread of Buddhism and the conversion of the Mauryan emperor from chandashoka to dharmashoka. One of my all-time favourites by Shahrukh. One of the most underrated films to ever have been made. It's a pity that it stoked controversy and went largely underappreciated.

+Bhavika Sicka man i was just 10 when this came out, way back in 2001...all those monkeyman scares and september 11 wtc attack, so much was happening that year. I saw this movie back then and i cried..15 years later i watched it again and i was almost in tears. This movie is probably one of the greatest of the last two decade, and certainly srk's best along with swadesh...one of the most underrated movies ever in bollywood....and not just this song, the whole soundtrack was very mesmerizing and haunting . This movie was way ahead of its time

***** Romilla Thapar's 'History of Early India, means that she stated her opinion about what could have had happened to ashoka after tha Kalinga war but it is not the fact, Ashoka was known to be aggressive in expanding his empire, he could have expanded it more than just ''Akhand Bharat'' but seeing ultimate destruction and lakhs of dead bodies after the Kalinga war, he started to feel suffering within, do you really believe that such kind of people would have ever cared about not being able to properly administer their empire when they just have a thirst for increasing it? why did Alexander the great came to India from Greece then? his empire was bigger than Ashoka. And talking about politeness, I didn't abuse you, I just said that your information is bullshit, this is social media, get used to it.
