What an awesome lecture, like all the shiurim of Rav Breitowitz. He is such a Talmid Haham, and the way he teaches is so interesting to follow, besides he is such a sweet man and with a great sense of humor.

53:45 Something similar -- the notion of multiple goals -- might apply to the Chassidishe story as well. The ultimate criteria of how and when we give tzeddaka are determined by halacha, not by our feelings. If our feelings have too much weight, we might end up acting contrary to halacha.

How do you tell if a law is rabbinic or from moshe from sinai? ie what is the difference between rabbinic enactments and oral torah from talmud? How do i know if what a rabbi in the talmud is saying is rabbinic or from sinai / how do I know which things in talmud are rabbinic fences and which are from moshe?

Simple, like all things in life the closer you look the more interesting it becomes. Clearly if it is written explicitly in the text of the written Torah then we have no doubt. And we have no doubt when the rabbis say it's a fence explicitly. Everyone agrees on those and there are no questions. Those are the extreme edges and are easy to see... It becomes a lot more interesting when you start looking at less explicit options. What is implied when it says not to work on the sabbath? What counts as work? Why does that count as work? How did we come to those conclusions? We can study together if you like
