I think this is the best all around bike available today. Fantastic looks, good on the street, good on the highway. The Sportster S has stupid pipes that are in the way and make it hard to have saddlebags or hard bags. This bike isn't too big or too small. 650's are too small. 1800's are overkill. I think a 1250 is really about the perfect size for an all around bike. Sure, if you spend all your time on the freeway you might want a Goldwing or if you spend all your time just running around town you might want a 500 rebel or something small.... but if you want a bike that will do it all... get this perfect mid size Indian.

Sportster s and nightster is harley flopping after they canceled the real bikes, the evos. I had a 2008 kawasaki vulcan 1600cc and 2008 kawasakk vulcan 2000cc. The 2000 was such an amazing thing on the highway and got better mpg than the 1600. The 1600 you could give it a little more beans to get up to the same speed i like that but it wasnt as luggable down low and not as good on the interstate but better in the parking lots. The 2000 was like a tractor mixed with a lamborghini but sucked in tbe aprking lots. I suspect these 1250cc scouts are going to be noticably worse on the interstate but better in the parking lots. 1250cc isnt too little thats still a big vtwin you want for the interstate. To me the 1600 was also a bit heafty when it came to legging it around the grocery store parking lot. These scouts are real light in comparison because it doesnt gave giant 5+ gallon tank and 1000cc in each cylinder. But 1250cc is creeping on a 1300cc which is no small vtwin by any means. So its going to be great for actually going slow in parking lots but not too small fpr the interstate. But having cruise control will be so great for my 3 hour trip to albuquerque and back. Morr of a luxury on bikes. 650cc is great size for someones first street bike out of msf if its an old 650 and not ultrapowerful. Things like dr650 are good upgrsdes for people once theyve toodled around on a 125 a 250 a 300 for learning on. A big 1250cc motorcycle it starts to get sketchy to try to lean it over while not moving as the bikes get heavy and you will drop them. Little 250s are better for msf because most people can lean it over while parked and still be able to lift it back up easy. So the 650s have their place. A dr650 in my area can go over every speed limit and go places this scout will never but the scout is way better for if your a regular person driving on a road exploring or running an errand or going to a doctors appointment or work etc. Its nice to have a bike that can do 80 across the country more easily but also doesnt weigh 1100 pounds to do it like a street glide or a goldwing. Which suck in parkinglots.

1800's aren't overkill, it's just a different setup. I ride a Chief Darkhorse and have owned a Scout Bobber before. They're totally different bikes with different purposes. This new scout is excellent, but let's be real here.. it's 20K out the door for a MIDSIZE cruiser. That's a lot of money.. It better be nice considering. I'd love to have one, but I'm not feeling the pricetag behind it.

I test rode the Sport Chief and 101 Scout yesterday. Coming from a Honda CB1000R naked, looking for a more upright position, the Sport Chief felt good. It took turns better than bigger cruisers and still felt like a cruiser. Then I rode the 101. For me, again coming off a naked sport bike, the 101 is my pick. The Sport Chief, even in sport mode, had a bit of lag in the throttle, which is something I cant have for my commute. The 101 was immediate throttle response. But even in sport mode it felt like it was needing just a bit more oomph. But then I found it's piwer band happy spot. Like RH says, it is in the 4k+ range and you feel it. Now I'm eagerly waiting to trade my CB in for this bad mamajama.

The Vrod has more low end for sure but once the Scout spools up it rockets. It benefits from being more than 100 lbs lighter too.

We don't have them sadly. I promise you Oklahoma is a sea of sadness in the central part where I am. The first real turns are over an hour away and the really really good roads are 4 hours. I wish I could take one for a long range ride to hit those, but unfortunately I'm stuck with what I have.

What things would you add or customize from this bike
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 25 күн бұрын
As a mid-sized ish cruiser (by American standards at least), the 101 is probably one of the best all around, and is really good out of the box in the long run. It would be dependent on what my intentions were. If it was a daily runabout, it is good right where it is. If I was to be doing some day tripping on it, a little comfier seat and some storage options like saddle bags, fender rack, sissy bar and top bag would be added next. However, in any configuration, this engine is good. It needs to sound good, that big can would need to go in favor of something that is smaller, yet, produces a soulfully deep tone that you can hear is hiding in it. I would also then get that thing off the ground with some different suspension and then switching to the mid mount pegs like the FTR and letting that thing rip up canyons.

I’m liking the Indian bikes. But I heard they really run hot. Do you have information about that issue?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 14 күн бұрын
I agree that the heat can be something not expected to those who have never experienced a V-twin before as your legs do wrap around the rear cylinder essentially. I don't really feel that heat any longer as much due to the many years on V-Twins and also the NightRod being the hottest freaking thing on the planet. This new Speedplus engine does not produce the heat of the Scout engine of past, but I could see where some may find it feeling warm.

Just test drove one yesterday. As RH is saying it takes wind off your body, so you don't feel the parachuting from a naked, but at 5'8" with long torso/short extremities it was hitting my neck and helmet. If they offer a higher windshield for this quarter fairing, that'll be my go to.

With Indian ditching the Aluminum frame for steel it affords for more mad scientist customization of the bike and what I think will happen is all the riders that like to build V-twin Hooligan machines are finally going to have a platform outside of the FTR to do it with. The Sportster S is in no way going to fill that gap and not too many are modding the soft tail Dynas the way they did the dual shock models. I think that the Scouts are going to do very well in this new configuration. I just hope that the performance aftermarket doesn't take forever to come around.

@killacoiler1707
@killacoiler1707 21 күн бұрын
@@stuartstogdill2406 I don't think that before the new Scout line that Indian really had a platform that offered much ability to be modded. The now out phased Dyna and Sportster were super popular bikes to mod and stunt and Harley trashed that with the new models. I am hopeful that Indian will fill the gap that Harley left when they made the Dyna a Softail and turned the Sportster into a Shadow.

Nope. Front fork not adjusted to rider weight and could have been worked out. Many bikes I've rode and said pretty smooth jostle in this same way and I call them the same way. If I don't leave the seat that is, if I do then they suck plain and simple. This one was no where close to throwing me out and I knew the fork had zero adjustments on it so I also knew it could be settled.
