Honda Racing's Glenn Irwin faces a triple challenge from BikeSocial's Michael Mann with the Honda CBR1000RR-R SP Fireblade, his team mate's Superstock bike and his own Superbike from the Bennetts BSB series around the beautiful Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
Glenn offers detailed feedback on the differences between the three bikes and talks through every corner of the 3-mile Cheshire track.

what a brilliant video, its so good to see Glenn Irwin relaxed, having fun and seeing his personality. he's so humble I have become a huge fan of his this year..what a bloke, he's had injuries and illness all season, and is so exciting to watch in races.... and for him to do just 5 laps first time on Neave's stocker and go faster.. wow... great work Mr Mann.

Having spent some time with him since he joined Honda with this feature and on the press launch of the Fireblade, I can honestly say he's just the same when the camera is not rolling. Great stuff! Glenn seems top guy. Know they couldn't do it but I'd love to see him ride the r1, s1000rr zx10 etc as well see what he genuinely thinks of each bike

A great video and as said previously Glen is such an honest, natural guy with a supreme talent but not the ego to go with it. A very interesting test and actually shows how good the road bike is that you can ride out of the showroom. 👍🏻

Glenn is genuinely one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. He's guest instructed with us a couple of times over the years here in Mondello, and when not on track, was just sitting with the rest of us chilling and having the craic like one of the lads. Also helped set up the suspension on my Panigale (this was back when he was still with Ducati!) as we are/were similar weights, but seeing him come around Dunlop on the back wheel of my baby still gives me the shivers (he's STILL the only person I've let take that bike around Mondello in the 9 years I've had that bike!! Haha!). Really top lad - we're still waiting for all the planets to line up for him, but it will happen, will definitely happen! Roll on 2022 Glenn - only rider around that I support........ that's not on a Ducati!! 😂

1984 I had and loved a Yamaha RD350 2 stroke , scared me many times ,,, late '84 a friend brought a race RD400 ,,, I can see the same here ,,, both fast , very fast ! but the race bike was a race bike for a reason . our mates with 750 bonni's , 750/850 Norton's hated us ,, but . Thanks for the trip down memory lane guy's .

only problem being, to change the gearing on the new blade you have to change the loom and ecu which is bonkers. 6k? as well from memory. Mega bike though

Not mentioned in the film (which is great!) but is the rider position / triangle different between any of the three bikes? (Ie do the pros put their rearsets even higher than stock? )

Interesting point. The suspension, ride-height, rear sets and even handlebar width and placement are all customisable for the rider and circuit on the two race bikes here. At Oulton, it just so happens that Glenn, Tom and I are approximately the same height so I felt comfortable enough in their personalised positions, though the whole experience was a little unusual so it wasn't necessarily what I was focused on. The professionals need mega ground clearance due to their lean angles but also need to be able to steer the bike with weight transfer and can't be missing their gear lever because it's in the wrong position, so there's a compromise and ultimately the rider has to be comfortable enough to do the race distance in the most aerodynamic manner. Bennetts Bike Thanks so much for the response Michael :) For what it’s worth (and having trailed you for a couple of laps one session at Oulton a couple of years ago) I think you’d have been much less than 11 seconds behind Glenn at Donington or Snett or the like - Oulton is a mare with 200+ bhp!

Bennetts Bike Yes - it was exactly that day! You led the group off on the Aprilia and I held on (properly) for about half a lap on my trusty 2006 Fireblade. I blame my lack of tyre warmers for it not being longer 🤣. Couple of laps and you were gone :) You may also remember us having a brief chat about my Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer back at a Ducati day at Silverstone in 2018. Small world 👍

Are the two “super bikes” or the ones with the race numbers, are they identical ?

The '68' bike is the Superstock bike which is raced in the class with regulations more akin to production bikes where as the '2' bike is the Superbike and has a different set of regulations including the use of slick tyres.

That Road version Fireblade is heavily restricted. 186 mph is nothing for the new Fireblade if unrestricted. I guess if unrestricted completely it will do 211 mph or 340 Kmh.

It's a front brake adjuster. With hard braking during a race, the pads will wear meaning the lever movement will change so the wheel makes adjustments to the span of the front brake lever. Hope that helps.

Journalist being slower on the super stock is the extra shifting from that gearbox - too much down shifting. Less stuff to think about on the street bike; just twist, brake & turn.

Why are the road bikes gears so long if the super stocker and full fat race bikes are shorter? Surely it would be nicer to have the shorter gears on the road.

Shorter gearing give quicker acceleration plus there are not that many tracks with long enough straits where you could really max out higher gears.
