Excellent tyres. Cheap, wear well, no warmers, great grip. Win all round.

Isn't it amazing that it's taken until now for someone to come up with a "enthusiast" slick for trackdays! These will surely sell like hot cakes until the competition catches up!

having used these I completely agree - brilliant tyre, less fussy than a conventional Slick, 95% of the grip, just less outright edge grip & slightly slower turning due to profile but if you adapt slightly by going more 'square it off & squirt it out' rather than going for high corner speed there is not much in it - great tyres !

Great video thanks. I have been running the Metzler TD slicks for nearly a year and love them. Way more grip than I am able to exploit which makes them really safe and the wear rate on my 600 has been incredible!

Are you using tire warmers?

@@Velodictorian I ran warmers so far this year, but probably won't bother in these warmer temperatures. I like the reassurance of the warmers as you know the tyres are already up to temperature as you roll on track

Thanks for this, good vid. I've been using these on my 1098S this year following a recommendation and certainly find them to be even-wearing and confidence-inspiring (though I'm sure it could be a fine line between confidence and over-confidence?!). Good luck with the racing.. and all that tech! 😁👍

The Michelin Power Slick 2 and the pirelli TD slick are similar options. They come in 1 compound and work in a huge range of heat types.

I've been doing track days for the last year on my '21 BMW S1KRR, I normally use the Dunlop Q4 or Pirelli TD/SC3 V2 tires, but recently went with a set of the new Metzeler Slick TD's. Compared to Dunlop and Pirelli the Metzeler triggers TC intervention at a much higher and more aggressive rate. This leads me to the conclusion that it doesn't provide the same grip level as that of a Dunlop Q4 or Pirelli TD. The trade-off being I can get about 4 to 5 days on track out of the Metzeler TD as opposed to about 3 using the Dunlop/Pirelli TD offerings.

Great video. What kind of geometry changes did you have to make to use the 200/65? I'm hearing that you need to lengthen the chain or change the sprocket to make a 200/65 fit a 2023 S1000RR.

I've always been put off slicks for UK track days as they cool down fast when you get stuck behind a slow group of riders. Road based track day tyres seam to hold there heat for longer and also warm up quickly. A cold slick feels like riding on marbles. These tyres are like no other slicks then??
@neevesybikes3 жыл бұрын
These are designed to be useable from cold with no warmers, so you don’t get that horrible cold racing tyre feeling. They don’t run super low pressures either.

@lonpfrb Жыл бұрын
Dunlop Sportsmart TT has the same NTEC technology as the KR and 212 series race and track tyres with a bigger range of temperature and track surface. So you can easily set the best pressure for road or track. Good enough to win TTs and plenty good enough for track use or road use. Great tread pattern too so less risk of MOT failure than most tyres. Much cheaper than the KRs too..
@jasonchurchill97803 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, been here before with those Pirelli red stripe tyres for track day riders. They were like plastic. Tyres are such a personal thing, what works for one person doesnt work for another etc. To be fair though a decent track day slick, if it does what it says on the tin would be a god send.

@@neevesybikes Pal, i will give them a try. Im a mid pack clubman level racer. I use Dunlop rears and Metzeler fronts as i like the feel. Tyres are our biggest expense so anything that will help to spread the cost is a no brainer.

Do you think these tyres are OTT for a 600 trackbike. I currently use Pirelli Supercorsa sc2/sc1 at Intermediate level.
@MrMrHelix3 жыл бұрын
You can almost certainly use the Metzeler TD and be happy unless your pace is super high. A 180/60 rear tyre on a 5 ½" rim will give you a bigger contact patch than a /55 profile but also a slightly longer gearing. You can turn these tyres around when one side is getting worn. Follow Metzeler's pressure advice for max. grip and durability.

If the Metzler TD’s provide only a tad less grip, would they be good practice for leaning on the traction control ? Also I ride a 2018 fireblade Sp, I’m currently using Pirelli SC2 on the rear. If I use gripper tyres would the TC be less intrusive
@neevesybikes3 жыл бұрын
It would be good to practice leaning on the TC, but I need to get the TC working on the race tyres by taking some brave pills. The TC will always less intrusive on gripper tyres, although I'd be careful leaning on a Blade's TC. It's designed for the road, so after it's sensed a slide and dulled the power it'll switch off and reset...even if you're still full throttle. It's what we learned instructing at the Haslam School...

@@geraintjones5188 that’s lucky then, just with you saying that the tc being intrusive and that being one of the major issues with running a larger diameter tyre and it knocking the wheel speed sensor out of its window of scope.

@@rognevs5695 apart from a standard engine, a hrc loom and ecu, my bike is fully modified for racing/ trackdays. I have flashed my bike with woolich software. Which allows the TC and auto blipper to work. I’ve read lots of things on forums, and also had 2 or 3 people come up to me and said you can’t do that or u can’t do this. It’s not true It’s always nice to hear of other people using these bikes on the track though.

"Colder track temp requires harder compound"( 3.06). Is that correct?
@neevesybikes3 жыл бұрын
Sure is. Soft tyres ‘cold tear’ if the track temp is too low. They look like they’ve been attacked with a cheese grater!
@Bladebars3 жыл бұрын
so they’re Dunlop gp racers then?
@neevesybikes3 жыл бұрын
Not quite. They come in different compounds, can’t be turned and need tyre warmers. They’re good tyres though, but the Metzelers are easier to manage on a trackday.
