While I love indulging in a bit of luxury every now and then, for everyday items, I'm all for keeping it budget friendly. I'm here to tell you which popular products I believe aren't worth their higher price tags, including one sneaky product trap you'll definitely want to avoid.

Yes. Parents waste so money on name brand clothes that kids or teens are just going to out grow! Little ones wearing North Face or under armour clothes... ridiculous! 🙄 My parents didn't get me nice clothes or shoes until I was in high-school. They were very frugal.

My parents didn't get any brand name stuff for us at my very brand oriented elementary school. I survived. I also got gifted (from friends) a pencil bag and a book bag from the "it" brands for my birthday that staved off some of the worst of the ridicule from horrid children. Of a parent can afford it, a single bougie item for a kid might be a nice splurge, while still teaching kids that this is unnecessary and being budget-concious and frugal is better.

For family owned theaters the concessions are the only way they make money. The movie studios get most of the ticket sales. Support your local family owned theaters.

Let's give Rachel the benefit of the doubt that she does not understand the film distribution business. But yeah, someone should educate her about how the money flows. On a first run movie, 90% of the ticket sales goes to the distributor. The theater makes their money on popcorn and junior Mints.

For me, it's the opposite. I'm not going to watch a movie (hardly any TV) unless I'm actually at the movies. It's time spent with a loved one. I don't really snack so I don't have to worry about buying food. The show is walking distance from my house so there's no transportation costs involved. Plus, it's only a few times a year, at most.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you about the Dyson. My wife and I ran an in-home dog sitting business for over seven years, having thousands of dogs come through the house. The Dyson Torque 11 was the only vacuum that could reliably pick up all that hair and dirt from outside. Moreover, it has never failed!

I’m with you on the clothes thing. Most of my clothes are thrifted. If you go to thrift stores in upscale neighborhoods, you can find all the high dollar labels. My friend and I used to call one particular store “Dillards” because all the rich ladies would dump their out of season clothing, shoes and purses there. I once found a $350 pair of Italian name brand shoes sold at Nordstrom. They were like new for $8. Nobody, except my closest friend, knows how we could possibly have two lovely homes that are 100% paid for. It’s possible! I’ve followed your Dad’s advice for many years. We didn’t get any inheritance or win the lottery. Many years of hard work and consistent saving and living below my means. It really does work!

Buying movie theater food is a move for dating, not for marriage. And if you date a homebody, it's not even relevant. I did invest in collectibles when I worked fast food, but only because I worked opening & closing and got a free meal as a perk - so I ordered the meals with the toys, with an investment of pure sweat equity. Some of them are now valued at $100+ and climbing.

Many years ago, when a Dyson Vacuum was $650 at Costco, I gave it a try. My $129.00 Shark Navigator picked up all the fine dirt that the Dyson missed. I returned the Dyson and went back to my trusted Shark. I also buy NYDJ, yep $130 a pair, but, I find them new on eBay for around $36.00. I take good care of them, hang them to dry and they fit like a dream. Store brands are not cut to fit me.

I can agree on most of these but I will sort of disagree on some of them. When it comes to collectibles, the problem is some people got very excited a few years ago when the prices of collectibles were soaring and then the the market corrected itself and prices dropped. Now you can still make money in collectibles but what many of these people didn't realize is it takes work to move them whether its setting up at a convention and dealing for a full weekend or listing items on ebay, it takes more work than many of these people thought it would. As far as name brand jeans I tend to think your better off paying for a better quality product that is proven to last vs a cheaper one. A solid pair of jeans from a name brand whose products have been proven to last will save you more in the long run than continuously buying cheaper jeans that just fall apart after so many months. As far as movie theaters and bringing in food, yes I have done it but you have to realize the concession's is how the theaters make money and not from the ticket sales themselves. If we want to continue to have the experience of going to the movies we need to support movie theaters by purchasing from the concession stand.
