Thankyou so much for the video Rachel! One thing I might disagree on is prepaying for your funeral. My pop who recently passed away (age almost 85) prepaid for his funeral about 15 years when he and my nan moved into their retirement home. This has been such a blessing to my nan who didnt have to think about paying someone, or any of the funeral arrangements. All she had to do was call the funeral company and they put my pop's wishes in motion. They had plenty of other investments so they didn't have to worry about not having investments and what that money could of done. My mum and her siblings were all really close to my Pop and everyone knew that no one really would be in the right state of mind to organise a funeral so my Pop and Nan took the initiative and did everything.

My parents paid off their house just before I got married. They were 46 and 43. My in-laws have never had any debt. No mortgage, nothing!! I know we won’t need to worry about either of their finances.

I am VERY thankful to my parents for being incredibly open with us about their money mistakes over the years. It made it so much easier for us to avoid them ourselves <3

Rachel, are you a mind reader? Literally one of the biggest things on my mind right now as we are plowing through our financial journey is my moms inability to be financially independent. Cannot wait to listen to this podcast tomorrow while working.

Tough conversations but necessary. Seeing families fighting during/ after death over funeral expenses, possessions and money is horrible. The sad part is that it could have been prevented with proper planning and engaging in those tough conversations.

Thanks for this episode--I emailed it to my mom and she said she watched the whole thing. It was a great conversation starter and I liked that I didn't have to broach any of the hard topics or tell them what to do (avoiding "powdered butt!").

Thanks so much Rachel. You’ve made some good points. I’ve never bothered to ask my parents about all their debt and I’ve been meaning to ask them about life insurance but I keep procrastinating. I need to stop and just do it. Have a good week!

This was such a great reminder for me, not only as the daughter of parents in their 70’s, but as a woman in her 50’s who needs her own “notebook” like the pastor mentioned. It’s important for me, too! Great work, Rachel!

Another (not fun at all either) question is to ask about their wishes concerning funeral and ceremony. But it is very important to know about those. Once you get there, the last thing you'll want to do is having to take decisions on these topics. By knowing beforehand, you can follow their wishes/instructions. It takes a lot of stress off your shoulders and you'll be reassured that what is done is what they wanted.

I am not sure most people approaching 60 can afford long term care insurance. Make sure to help them get debt free. Put them on a budget now. As Dave says, if you take my money, you take my advice. Take my advise now, if you want my help in the future.

My parents are almost in the same situation my dad revived 500 a month in social security but he has health insurance. My mom never work so she have nothing in savings and no pension or social security. They live in PR. What advice can I give to them?

My mother in law received 1,300 in social security but she don’t want to pay for health insurance. She say that she don’t need it. She is 58. She support financially my sister in law (27 year old) because she is in New York finishing her master in music. What advice can I give to her ?
