Because it's not. If there was leak this type of maintenance is only waste of money. If it leaks there is air and moisture in the system. So it will fail shortly. You need to locate the leak, fix it, empty the system, create vacuum (to completely dry everything) and fill the system with gas.

So. Before you put the hose on the can. Put on gloves and safety glasses. Second put the hose on the low side port and squeeze the trigger for a second. This will purge the air and humidity from the charging device. Watch out using warm water as it can make the can explode. Outside of that all good of. And please don't use stop leak. Oh 1 more thing. If the 2005 hasn't had it done. Take it down and have all the old stuff removed. It can burn up and take up space as well as cause corrosion. Should be done every 4 or 5 years.

Maintaining an A/C system by adding more refrigerant occasionally means you have a leak somewhere, most likely at the valves. Better off to get it fixed properly before it ruins the compressor and costs a fortune to fix. These do-it-yourself cans are just a band aid.
