when the man searches God, i.e., searches the highest value possible in order to worship Him , this result, is expressed partially by art, look at cathedrals, paints, music, etc. However when man does not search God you obtain modern art like a police officer defecating. you can choose, God wants us free, but just use common sense and you will see immediately.

@@andrewbermingham7581 What an absolute ignorant statement. I can just as easily say it is the greatest thing which has united mankind. Perhaps you mean in the West and in the divide of Protestant Christianity. What fundamental truth which actually underlies and more accurately defines your statement would be, "Values are the greatest divider," in which case is closer to reality. One group of people values one thing over another group. But values exist due to God. Without religion, we have no values. Your values become based off subjective opinion, in which case destroys all values.

This is my favorite recording of my favorite piece of music. I listen to it probably once a week, usually when I first get up in the morning on the weekend, and I have the quiet of the house to myself. I am not a religious person at all; I usually end up listening carefully or meditating about the people around me whom I love, or the arc of my life, or something like that. The first two sections of this piece are my favorites.

Written 1915 during WWI by Rachmaninoff age 42. Popular in Russia and banned by Bolsheviks. Brought back end of Soviet times, I think. Found article on Rachmaninoff from European Times on pain of composer at exile from Russia and how he helped Russians with money and other aid. He hid his pain of losing his native land. Really a great soul, Rachmaninoff/c. Not religious but spiritual.

Wow, did anyone pick that the melody from 29:30 to 36:00 is also used in the climax of 3rd movement of his symphonic dances op. 45? This fact changes my understanding of symphonic dances completely. And how good is the slow build up to around 35:30! A lot of people think Rachmaninov was only a romantic composer and nothing else. But actually his works are well connected to the influence of Eastern Orthodox church too. Oh, what a great composer he was..

I was lucky. Some years ago the songs were announced to be in concert close to my city. But I reached the conductor, young and brilliant Fernando Tome, and I joined the choir. Needless to say, it was an amazing experience!

The opening phrases.... it is actually difficult to listen to, the pleasure is so intense. I know that is so pretentious, but it's true. This is how I think heavenly choirs sound. And thanks to the OP, this is the clearest version I have heard on KZfaq.

The best version of all time, not reproducible anymore since the collapse of the soviet union. Notably, Polyanski could rely on a small band of octavits inside the choir, which can't be found elsewhere. Many versions are sung a tone higher.

René Dessessandre At one time, at least, the Russian immigrant community in New Jersey had a number of them. When Ormandy recorded the Bach b-minor mass, (the then-young) Robert Page (who won a Grammy for chorus prep on that effort) hired them to double the bass parts. They were mixed low enough that they couldn't be heard as a separate part, but they provided a richness to the choral texture that enthused people (he told me this himself). Similarly, one contrabass viol behind the choir playing softly accomplishes the same effect -- the New England Congregational churches kept Prescott busy making what are now called "church basses" (which exploited the same principle. And for that matter, a bass recorder is a ridiculously weak instrument. But when it stops playing, the vitality disappears from the rest of the (recorder) consort.

It is a tricky topic, but there is a limit to how loud the music can be without sacrificing dynamic range. It is important to be faithful to the dynamic differences between the softer and louder pieces. I believe that this upload was made without any changes to the original masters from the CD.
