Hi! I really loved this video as it really represents the stages a pianist (though it is condensed, of course) goes through as they practice! I would love to see a similar video except with Bortkiewicz Piano Concerto No. 1! Would that be at all possible? I love this concerto and have even played it myself but unfortunately Bortkiewicz is not very well known T_T. I feel like this would not only be a great opportunity to raise awareness about this composer but also be a chance for others (and perhaps yourself! haha :)) to explore new, enchanting, exciting music. Regardless, thank you so much for sharing this video!

I played cello for this concerto last month, it was my first orchestra concert I ever played on cello. Difficult on cello, but the majority of the time I was focused on how outstanding the piano soloist was, and I fell in love with this concerto instantly. This is definitely my favorite piano concerto, and I’ll do anything to play it again one day on cello, when I have more experience as well haha 😂

#Rach2 my favourite movement would have to be the first, purely because of how desperate it is throughout. Though it's closely tied with the third for me because I love the grandness of the finale. Definitely one of my favourite concertos!

#Rach2 Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto no. 2 is one of my favorite pieces to this day, and also one of the first concertos that I consistently listened to over a long period of time. Jokingly, I always say with Rachmaninoff’s concertos that picking a favorite movement would be like picking a favorite child to me. But, if I had to pick a favorite in this moment, (stereotypical as it may sound) I would probably pick the 2nd movement. There’s just something about the sweeping melodies, and the flowing textures in contrast to what we’ve just heard in the first movement, and to what we’re about to hear in the third movement that’s just so refreshing! It feels like your coming out of a hard winter, and into the first weeks of spring! I love it!

#Rach2 This is a piece where I can honestly say I love every second of. It’s so hard to pick one movement because they’re all so amazing. The intensity of Mvt1 and the flowing calm of Mvt2 give me levels of joy and ecstasy I can’t describe, but if I had to pick, Movement 3’s absolute catharsis as the culmination of everything exploding and coming to a glorious and triumphant end will have to take the cake.

It's to your everlasting credit that you didn't simply re-enact and re-record the first challenge, since you'd already spent over an hour practicing the piece. Instead you were honest and completely started over on another part of the concerto. I'm a big fan of your challenge videos that show us amateurs that even at your level, you don't just sit down and knock out these pieces first time. 🏆

#Rach2 As a pianist, the 3rd is such a stand out choice. It is such a tremendous piece of music, all round. For the pianist and the rest of the orchestra, it's brilliant! Incredibly pianistic, but never does it take away from the rest of the orchestra. It's so flawlessly balanced, and simply mind bogglingly impressive to watch. But personally, and as a music enjoyer, I have such a strong connection to the second movement. My god is it something else! It is the musical embodiment of so many emotions I feel and can't put in to words but want to share with others. This movement is part of why I continue to persue my musical passions, day after day. I too, want to be able to instil these emotions with my music - even if it's simply my musical interpretation of the greats' work, I will be delighted to play a role in such a tremendous part of the world. What it makes me feel is deep within. It's part of what shapes our cultures. It provides an understanding of something I can't describe with words. And you just can't get it anywhere else. Of course I love the entirety of the piano concerto. But the second movement is my favourite - it is truly special to me, and the third is a close second for the pianist inside me.

#Rach2 Honestly, while the famous and romantic chords at the end of the second movement are amazing, and the third movements has rich harmonies and heroic melodies, I have to give the top prize to mvt. 1. And I'm so happy to hear my absolute favorite part of the whole concerto being played with such amazing talent. Love your playing! Also, since we're coming close to christmas, and because it's also an amazing piece and (hopefully) not too demanding, perhaps Schubert/Liszt's Ave Maria could be a fun challenge..? ;)

#rach2 I am currently learning this piece and am in dire need of a physical score 😅 I actually kind of ignored this concerto for quite a long time, but when my friend forced me to sit down and listen to it i immediately fell in love with the profoundly beautiful melodies and harmonies, not to mention the story behind it. My favourite movement is the second, it speaks to my soul. So much so that I begged and pleaded to a couple pianist friends to play rach's romance for 6 hands with me (sounds a lot like the second movement of rach 2).

#Rach2 The third movement is my favorite. The second theme's melody is simply beautiful and passionate, evoking a heart-melting yet heartbreaking experience. The second time the piano plays the theme is so touching, and offers a more introspective and somewhat "deeper" rendition than that of the first time. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to listen to it live this year, and when the orchestra plays it for the last time it's just mwah! *chef's kiss*. I love the entire concerto, but for me, the third movement is just a bit more special than the others.

Hi Annique! I am a contemporary musician (keyboardist) from East Malaysia! But I never been taught/trained in classical way. I am struggling finding my way to train my own self in classical pieces. after watching this video of Piano Concert No.2. and I listened the original as well, I would say, it's my favourite currently! Especially that Adagio Sostenuto, 2nd movement! for me, It has a very unique & special character of a Bright & Dark element altogether yet with strong catch. what a masterpiece. 🤯 By the way, your channel has boost me up & encourage me to do more in learning & studying classical music ! But there's just something about the third embodiment for me that never fails to amaze me, it's like I'm listening to it for the first time every time I hear it, especially that last 2 minutes, it's like an opening movie scene showing the great pyramids! #Rach2 In all honesty, Rach's second and third piano concertos, all movements are unique in their own ways, and all have their different characteristics. But the first movement of Rach's second concerto, omg. It's all the musical ideas, emotions and virtuosity put into one movement. Almost like a Sibelius symphony, where he condenses all his musical ideas that you would find in a full hour-long symphony, but only in one movement, presenting all the emotions and feelings as well as weaving them together professionally. Well done Annique and Well-done Rach!

#Rach2. My favorite movement is the first movement, it was my introduction to Rachmaninoff, specifically the Khatia Buniatishvili recording. The movements piano line is unmatched in my opinion, absolutely my favorite piano concerto of all time. I love the way the piano trades the melody back and forth with the orchestra and the huge contrast found all throughout the piece, from Passionate and Fiery to soft and (still passionately) quiet. It is simply unmatched.

#rach2 I’m listening to this piece for everyday since September. Before that’s I was not really in love with Rachmaninoff, but after I read book “Goodbye Russia” - Rachmaninoff in Exile, i have realized how great he was, the contribution to the classical music he brought is incalculable. Second movement is the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in my life, the emotions I feel listening to it are different every time. Climax is just the moment when my whole body feels goosebumps… Recently I had an opportunity to listen to 3rd piano concerto but it’s not as beautiful as second I wish I can play it one day!

#Rach2 I can NOT decide, but recently, I've got overwhelmed by the 3rd movement, especially by the first theme that piano plays. I love how it's repeated 2 times, every time in diffrent, every time in more sublime and monumental way.

#Rach2 I really like the third movement of the concerto because of the heroic, grandiose themes. It just stands out to me and really makes me feel more upbeat and excited about anything in my life.

#Rach2 thank you so much for the opportunity of winning this! Playing this piece is a dream since the first movement of the second concerto is definitely my favorite concerto from this composer, and probably one of my favorite ones overall. The first movement is a jewel ✨ for the balance between the voices, the mix between romantic period and something very modern, along with a lot of different texture throughout the movement. I hope to win and to have the opportunity to learn it 🥰 never though it was even a possibility to get a good quality orchestra recording.

#rach2 movement no.1 I started palying piano at 5 years old and quit at 16. at 18 I first heard it and it reignited my passion for the instrument. Ever since I have improved much, learning rachs prelude in g minor aswell as his transcription of kreislers liebesleid. would be fun trying to play the concierto

#rach2 I like the second movement so much. It is my favorite piece. I used to go to the fields with my grandmother whilst listening to the second movement. As I little child I didn't understand it that well but now I can see that it was some manner of love. Now I go back to those fields while listening to this.
