You just need a company or two to invest in enormous wind- and solar farms willing to literally give away the electricity they generate. Hint, China General Nuclear Power Group - who finance Hinkley Point C - isn't one of the companies willing to give away electricity.

Thing is F1 has been the proving ground for consumer engine technology and as such could be considered the pinnacle of the motor industry. The motor industry is emphatically leaving fuel behind. Could F1 end up without the current big manufacturer names and the prestige that results and filters down to consumer cars as a result of F1 stating they will never go electric? By the way love me some vintage Bentley!

It is possible to buy e85 in France for just over a Euro a litre, it is 15% unleaded and is now widely used. It is created from bio waste in France (and 15% dinosaur) but it is also an excellent option very similar to this solution; The best thing is to change over when restoring the car...

Cracking couple of days Pete. Man made green fuel has to be a big part of the future. Needs really big investment in carbon zero energy production facilities & ramping up to make it affordable..... If cars can run on it without modification, the volume can be achieved to get the price right & we already have the infrastructure to deliver it & provide the point of sale facilities, then the production is the last main hurdle.

Drive past this and Lanzante every day to take the dog for his walk... I think this sort of fuel is perfect for classic cars. As mentioned in the video, Bentley provided the chassis and running gear, so ripping out the old running gear doesn't leave much Bentley behind. I think people underestimate the sound and visceral nature of such things. If you want an electric car that looks like an old Bentley, fine, but just build a replica. I don't think synthetic fuels are a solution for the masses though, unless it can be produced purely through re-processing waste. Otherwise we'll end up with another palm oil, which despite being 'veggie' hasn't worked out so well for the rain forests where it's now grown.

Incredible to see how these super rare and expensive cars are raced to the limit. 6€ per liter is a bargain for this fuel! When scaled up properly and supported by our gouvernement it would be cheaper than E10. But that's dreaming of course as they still say electric cars are 100% green (still massively frustrated about that). Cheers.

Hi Ped A little late in catching up on your videos, but this was well worth the wait. Extremely interesting and informative regarding the fuel strategy in the future. If only this could come to the agenda of our politicians, or is that asking too much. The range of older cars, including the Bentley’s at MM was superb, and hats off to all the drivers for the pleasure & excitement they gave us.(and no safety devices). Good to catch up with you once again. As a fan of vintage Bentley cars, are you acquainted with Peterson Bentley based in Devon? The purist might not agree but they produce some fantastic cars, you will need a lottery win to buy one.😥

Wonderful to see these magnificent cars still being used in motorsport and long may they continue, as it's much better than seeing them in museums or private collections. Whilst their future and that of other motorsport such as F1 may be saved by using syntheticfuel, I can not see synthetic fuels ever being cheap enough or freely available to Joe public. Even if they were, they are not a zero carbon fuel, although it could be claimed that they are carbon neutral. Cars running on synthetic fuel still produce CO2 when the fuel is burnt.

Brilliant video Ped, love seeing these proper cars and so interesting that Bentley build the chassis and engine then you took it to your coach builder to customise your body, absolutely amazing. I suppose if you had enough money to buy one back then there was no problem designing your own bodywork. Running on the synthetic fuel is maybe another way forward to keep our beautiful old cars running... Did I understand correctly that there is no carbon emitted? The largest direct air capture plant (i.E. the carbon neutral part in eFuels) in Iceland produces just enough CO2 to make eFuels for about 800 to 1000 cars a year, From what is planned, we might get to about 1 to 2% of the EUs fuel consumption in 2035. When you want eFuels, you want a whole lot more renewable energies, possibly in developing countries with a lot of sun and/or wind and water. The water should be clean, but given enough energy this is not much of a problem, you just need some more solar and wind farms. As far as I'm concerned, we might have enough eFuels to run our oldtimers once or twice a year. Not too shabby, but no solution for daily commuters, That's why I have an EV and keep my old motorcycle 😊

Who want silent electric conversions of classic vintage cars in the first place; they were design and built in the good old bad old days. To run on basically liquid fuel combustion engine power, plus with great engine and exhaust sound effectives to go with them too! If these manmade advance environmentally friendly liquid fuels, are as good as they seem to be. Along with their price is reduces over the coming years, to an affordable price per litre everyone can afford on a daily basis to run their own family old car too! That is a price which is comparable to present day petrol, or diesel or even LPG prices per litre, at our local service stations too. Then not only can we keep these lovely old classic vintage cars, motorcycle, military vehicles and commercial vehicles too. From either the late 1800's right up to the 1990's too, all still running on our roads, for everyone enjoyment to see and watch plus hear roar passing by too. Think of it the Battle of Britain Flight of Spitfire and Hurricane fighters plus Lancaster Bomber, all flying over head silently, because they been converted to fly on near silent electric motors and batteries too. You would never hear again the roar of those might and lovely Derby built Rolls Royce Merlin “V” Cylinder Piston Engine overhead roaring for all they are worth at maximum horsepower! Instead these Rolls Royce Merlin Engines, have been replaced by near silent electric motors powering the Battle of Britain Flight, as they flying over our heads, who wants that none of us do we? So the likes of the London Brighton Run, will be safe and still going for another 104 years we hope because of these manmade environmentally friendly liquid fuels now too! So if any of us are still around in 2127 and by then the London to Brighton Veteran’s Run, will be celebrating its own 200th anniversary and we all hope it goes on for longer than that too! Let hope these new manmade environmentally friendly liquid fuels, will keep all these lovely pre-1905 classic vintage combustion engine vehicles, still running well into and beyond the early or first half of the 22nd century too! As the London Brighton Veteran's Run, has been taken place most years since its initial revival, back in 1927 that is for the last 96 years now. With the London Brighton Veteran's Run, currently takes place on the first Sunday in November each year. Starting at sunrise or about 7:00 AM, that is now in Hyde Park, London. Then mostly following the old A23 road down to and finishing in Brighton, some 54 miles (or 87 km) away and few hours later, hopefully for all vehicles taking part and their drivers and passengers too. Maybe bt 2027 the 100th anniversary, all classic vintage petrol powered cars, will be using these new manmade environmentally friendly liquid fuels too, what away to celebrate 100 years of the London to Brighton Veteran’s Run too! I for one, want and hope these new manmade environmentally friendly liquid fuels, will save all classic vintage vehicles, either from the scrap metal yards? Or just from becoming static display vehicles only, left on show to the public in some transport museums, somewhere to visit at the weekends or on holidays, with none actually running on our roads, that is dead automobile history! That would be a crime against British, European and World wide vehicle manufacturing, for the last 138 years. Or since Karl Benz of Mannheim in Germany, who is credited as the inventor of the first motor car, back In the autumn of 1885!

If it’s carbon neutral burning fuel, what does the exhaust gas consist of?

What an awesome noise they all made 😵. I’ve seen a lot of talk online recently about the lifespan of electric vehicles, and this wonder fuel seems to be another potential nail in the coffin!

Let’s be serious here I’m all for keeping automotive history going but that’s what it is history. Synthetic fuel is just another fossil fuel distraction to keep the Ching Ching coming in - nothing more than high percentile uptake of electrification of everything using renewables is an acceptable way forward. If we put as much effort into promoting and using stuff that needs to be burned then we may never see any sort of future and history will be irrelevant. Pete does always put up a pretty balanced view on things though and maybe some sort of special dispensation could be made just for nostalgia’s sake - however it would need to be very tightly controlled.

And what do you think should happen to the millions of ICE cars on the road currently. Scrap them ?! What about countries that don’t have the geography or infrastructure for EV only ? How about countries that generate most of their power from fossil fuels ? Synthetic fuels and hydrogen MUST be part of the solution.

@@PetrolPed no I don’t think they should be scrapped but I do think we should stop making or buying any more of them. Green Hydrogen is a non starter as a viable green alternative for small transport needs the whole thing is almost laughable - I’m not a greeny I’m a realist we are in a transition period where we need to stop using excuses for not doing what we really need to do and synthesising fuel from green energy just to then burn that fuel to create pollutants surely isn’t the way forward. Let the dinosaurs of transport die out over a realistic period and in the mean time put all our efforts into modernising our grids and primarily making electric only vehicles for all our futures. After all when did you ever seeing a movie set in the future where they are driving petrol cars 😀

What gorgeous beasts. Bring on the synthetics as there is no way we will have enough electricty to support the politicians drive for E-Cars.
