In this video I show my experience racing the Golden Trail World Series Mammoth Trail Fest 26k (it was actually about a 28k...). This was a great challenge and fun course! After my race at Pike's Peak, I wasn't sure that I ever wanted to race again, but I'm so glad that I challenged myself to continue to pursue trail racing. It is not easy by any means, and the learning curve is steep, but this race showed that there is potential there if I just keep striving forward. #AllieOstrander #GoldenTrailSeries

You and your sister are so much alike. In the car before the warm up your sistwr said something i have heard you say before just every workout. She said, "yeah, its gonna be good!" Then there was the shoot just before the start of the race, you looked at the camera, smiled and it was like the gun went off and you went to 100% focus in an instance. Happy you were able to put Pikes Peak behind you. It wont be your last bad race but im sure you know this. We can do everything right and its the things out of our control that can all go bad... I've been there. Dont look at Pikes Peak as negative, turn it into a positive. I know in someways you have already, this race shows. If haven't already decided, you should go back to Pikes Peak next year, show the course whs boss and show yourself you can run good there. Love your smile while running, its always awesome seeing people smile while enjoying what they do, even when its hard and unforgiving at times.

Sweet that’s your HR could get to 196 at altitude without acclimatization. That’s impressive! Congrats on the much improved performance.

I was surprised it got that high too!
@paxundpeace9970
@paxundpeace9970 9 ай бұрын
Not uncommon for uphill running and having it that high shows a lot of effort. With some more acclimatization it is probably a bit lower but it takes a bit more then a few days.
@keithschumann4859
@keithschumann4859 9 ай бұрын
@@paxundpeace9970 my experience is different. When I go to altitude from sea level I can’t max out heart rate. I understand physiologically that the heart does not get enough oxygen and therefore will not beat faster. This does get better the longer I spend at altitude. Her HR maxing out is a sign of her overall cardiovascular health. Altitude be damned.

Great! 'E-race' that last race from your memory. Back on track. Rolling ankles is always my great fear as well because it happened in some cross country races but ever since switching to minimalist footwear this does not happen anymore, although it's hard to do the mileage, so it's a tradeoff.

Hi Allie. Congratulations on a great race and top 10 finish! I'm really happy for you that it was such a huge improvement from Pike's Peak. That was clearly an anomaly and you are headed in the right direction. I ran this race too and happened to be just a few feet from you on the start line and wished you good luck. I never imagined an amateur like me would line up in a race next to a pro like you, but that's one of the cool things about these Golden Trail races. I agree with you about nearly dying on the very long and very steep Dragon's Back climb! Of course you finished the race way faster than I did, but I did somehow manage to win the "old man" age group (50-59). And congrats also to your sister who also crushed it!

You have put out truly strong and excellent efforts in some incredibly challenging races. For your Pike's Peak video, I had shared what I hoped was a very positive comment, and that just vanished from KZfaq. Then I put it up again, and saw it, and it vanished again. So I hope I hadn't written anything that wasn't right, as I was so impressed by your incredible effort on what might be the most difficult half marathon in this country. I gave you a "10" on the guts gauge for doing that race, and thought that if you would have had about 10 days more to acclimatize (from my experiences of climbing Colorado's highest peak in Leadville, and then the next day running 2 miles in 17 minutes and change instead of 14 minutes at 10,000 feet of elevation.....ooh what did I notice that was missing....oxygen!). After enduring Pikes Peak, doing this race 6 days later....holy moly! That really shows how awesome your mental fortitude and overall strength is. I think you are as smooth on a downhill as a glass of 20 year old scotch! I remember I did a 10k, 6 days after a marathon, let alone running up a mountain for about 10 more miles beyond that as you did, and I was toast...didn't get out of bed for a day and half after that. You have a great sense of humor, as you cracked me up when you finally saw your sister finishing saying "She's not dead...I'm so happy!" I know that feeling, from my first marathon, where my bud was faster than me, but after finishing, I waited for him for 45 minutes, and was perpetually checking the medical tent. That scenario happened a few more times, wondering if my buds were on the course or at the hospital! Congrats, as after what you survived at Pike's Peak, and likely dug about as deep as you could to finish that race, and then to take on another real beast of a race at high elevation, and doing great..... that leads to my recommended name change for you, switching out Ostrander, so your full name would be.... Allie Awesome! You are right, as this is just the start, for which you are so strong, both mentally and physically, and you are and will be getting better, and better, and better!
@allie_ostrander
@allie_ostrander 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for leaving a comment here! I'm sorry that your comment on the last video disappeared...I'm not sure why that would have happened. Anyway, I definitely think that altitude acclimation would have helped me at Pikes Peak and probably this race too. I'll keep that in mind for next year! Waiting for a friend or family member to finish a somewhat dangerous race is so nerve wracking. I wanted Tay to do well, but, most of all, I just wanted her to be safe!

@@allie_ostrander Thank you Allie! Oh my goodness, you are so right of the worry for those whom we love being on a mountain, and not knowing if they are running or injured. I guess it is better to be faster and the worrier, than the worriee....I think I am committing some grammatical heresy there! Maybe a GPS tracker for Tay? She did great! BTW....do you have any idea of what happened to that runner who disappeared in the Mt. Marathon race? I have read everything from speculation that he ran into a wormhole (but apparently nobody else did), and didn't know if you had an idea or what the locals might think? Great, great job in one amazing week of running close to 30 miles with incredible elevation gains. You Go Allie O!

I'm so stoked that you are trail racing!! Been waiting for you to realize your potential and make the switch, for a couple years. AWESOME!! I'm bummed to hear that you were so hard on yourself over Pike's. You did excellent in that race, and my gawd.... there's nothing harder, as a Half, on the planet! Your racing here was excellent, and you were right there in the fight. Fantastic job! A couple tips. A Naked Running Band is all you need, and will allow you to switch to a lighter sports bra that's not so restrictive to chest expansion during breathing. You don't need much for these "short" distance races. Like maybe 1 or 2 GU Roctanes with caffeine and a coupe of peeled tangerines to wash them down. And a partially filled 17oz camelbak soft flask, in the back panel of the running band. Nothing in your hands!! You need free arm movement. Shoes with thick padded heels will promote ankle rolling, and the wider the heel sole area is, the more unstable the shoe becomes on uneven surfaces. You'd probably love racing in something like a Merrell Trail Glove, with Injinji Toe Socks. Keep having fun, and keep up the great running!

Way to go Allie! I thought you were a little nuts for doing this race 6 days after your last but considering you were feeling low about it maybe only having to sit with the results for a short time was good. (Although I still think you did amazing at Pikes Peak) As someone who rolls my ankles regularly walking on flat I’m always dumbfounded how people manage to run on uneven terrain without doing the same. It’s good to know you’re human too 😉 I didn’t mean that to sound like I’m rejoicing over you rolling your ankles 🤔 Anyway, hopefully you get what I’m saying. I’m glad you enjoyed this race more than the last, good luck with your training! 💜💜

Great job! Heading to the final event in Italy or are you gonna finish the season closer to home? I reckon you can make the overall top 20 with a good showing there, I think it gives 50% more points than the 6 previous races.

Jeez! 26k stated, 27.5 actual. They're called bonus miles and you don't have to pay extra for them. :) Great race.

haha the race website showed that it would be 17.2 miles on the map, but they were advertising it as a 26k? So funny! Trail running is a whole different world...

the cuteness of the bib really carried me through ;) also, I'm v disappointed that neither of my last two races have provided free burritos :( they had free pizza, but it's simply not the same..
