I have been using this video for reference as I'm learning how to race TCR on iRacing and it's helped so much!! Today I almost got my first win in the new touring car cup series on iRacing. Touring cars are one of my favorite forms of motorsport. Thanks for the help!

Hello Philip! I'm very happy to read that, I also enjoy swapping between GT and TV, and in TCR on Iracing you always have funny races. Have a look on the other videos "set up day with a real engineer" to learn more about how to change the set up on the tcr. Of course for now in Iracing is fixed, but may be helpful for the future!

Awesome!! Hahaha your description is hilarious and inspiring. “Yeah did like 20 minutes of practice and got 2nd IRL no biggie.” This is the best I’ve been looking for more FWD instruction for a couple months since the rs3 came to iRacing. Thanks!! More setup advice!!

We born at the same year, but i only started driving alone on my 13th, been driving fast whenever i could when there was no trafic in countryside gravel roads. Also the most experience i had was with front wheel drive vehicles. As you said around the middle of your video, and that applys to all kind of terrain, but on gravel and slippery roads, is where you understand how FWD really works. Unlike RWD where you might need to apply a countersteer to maintain the front where you want on the exit of the corner, the FWD doesn't require that if you enter on the right line at the right speed and the most important at the right GEAR, you simply keep the wheels straight and give the right amount of throttle. The counter steer on FWD can be used but if you keep for more time than is needed, the result may be really bad for you, well i could say a lot more about the fun i have with this kind of vehicle, but i came here just to share a bit of the opinio i have based on the few years i have driving fast front wheel drive. Unlike you i've never had the opportunity to race or work with that, but i've been on many dangerous roads trying to improve my skills for the sake of fun.

You are totally right on your experience and the feeling is really like that! Just be safe and I hope you can translate your passion into a hobby on track or closed roads, as is never a good idea to push the limits in to roads open to the public😅

Do you have any advice about how to set up the tire pressures on FWD touring cars? Is it that relevant?
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 3 жыл бұрын
It's usually very hard to get the heat on the rear tyres but very easy to have it in the front, as they do most work. So I would try to lower them a lot on the front and raise them a bit on the rear.

Does this advice work in the real world? I’m racing a backroad circuit in my neighborhood. It’s a very windy and tight clearance mountain road. 1 and a half car maximum for the width of the entire track. Blindspots everywhere. 8 miles total and I can’t break my 7:9:175 time. Driving a Golf 5 speed manual.
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 3 жыл бұрын
Yes this are all advices for real life driving too. Keep in mind that most of the time road cars are way more understeering than race cars, so is not gonna snap out so much. Early throttle application will help you to keep minimum speed high thorough the corners without unsettling the car

Great video. Really enjoy driving the FWD TCs as of late. Do you think having a round GT wheel vs more of a rectangle formula/GTE wheel matters for these cars?
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you! In the end it all depends mostly on your feelings and what you are used to. If you have always driven with a formula wheel you might adapt to the car quicker with that one, but in my personal opinion on FWD I like a bigger round touring car wheel. Even the half wheels they use now in cars such as the new Audi are way bigger than formula wheel, so the important part isn't really if you have it round or cut, but that the center diameter is a bit longer than a formula, to have your hands more far away from one another

so what about manual cars with FWD? are yu still suppose to break with your left foot? seems kinda impossible to break and use the clutch with one foot
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, you are right, it is not possible. You can practice with the heel and toe technique to apply a bit of throttle when you are still releasing the brake, but depends which type of pedals you have. Then in corners where you don't need to downshift you brake with the left foot.

How do you get the rear end of a FWD drive car to slide around?
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! There are many things you can do, for exemple: -reduce rear wing -increase rear ride height/lower front ride height (more pitch to front axle) -go backwards a lot on brake balance -stiffen the rear bar -soften the front bar -reduce differential preload -open the rear toe in (more toe out, tires looking more outwards) These are only a few, but be careful because will all these you will become a drift king 😂

quindi non si usa tanto il trail bracking in entrata in curva, meglio frenare prima e entrare di sterzo in modo che la parte posteriore segua la rotazione..
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 Жыл бұрын

Would a FWD with any sort of rear steering change anything? Or do you try to apply the same technique but with that added complexity?
@alexfontana1873
@alexfontana1873 Жыл бұрын
I've never driven fast a FWD with rear steering, but I reckon the technique should stay the same and if anything you would have less issues in rotating the car, potentially avoiding a very aggressive set up and therefor keeping the car more balanced in high speed
