Yes. And also some latinos are white-skinned like me for example. Not every latino is that mexican/native-looking. That's why latino is not even a race. It's only a group of people born in the Americas who speak a latin language. But they can be white, black, mixed, asian etc

Well that's because they would never say it like that in the past (not so much now). They would say "no spice" "no rice" "no curry" or "no kebabs" or something like that. Rarely would they ever explicitly state the ethnicity they didn't like. This was like 5 to 10 years ago though. Not sure about now.

I hate that there are people out there that think race is a important factor in relationships! Your race shouldn't matter when dating, and if you do act like this and refuse to change you don't deserve a relationship of any kind
@mjbaz1
@mjbaz1 3 жыл бұрын
But along with race is culture. Many people want someone whose culture is the same or close to theirs. I would hang out with someone, and in fact I rented to a black friend, so we lived under the same roof. I am not interested in complicating my life with navigating someone else's foreign culture. Now frankly I am friends with many white gays that fetishize black men, but only one that was in a relationship(long term). They are willing to hookup but not necessarily have a dating relationship. And most of them hookup with other men but don't necessarily have a committed relationship. I think people are entitled to date and fuck whom they want and they haven't wronged someone else.

I'm SO glad you brought up this topic, Dylan. I've actually dated more POC than I have white guys, but I see ALL THE TIME gay guys who will only date white guys or turn down someone because they're black or latino or asian. And on the other end of the spectrum, I've seen gay guys who have Asian fetishes or something of that nature. It's really sad that people are still seen as a color instead of a person by some people. And it's such a huge thing especially in the gay community and it just contributes to the sort of body shaming and other body image and self confidence issues that are already happening within the LGBTQ+ community. We definitely need to keep working to erase these sorts of behaviors from the community and make it a more inclusive. loving space as it was intended to be. We already go through enough discrimination, why should we add more to the pile?

Yeah, I've experienced this behavior a lot. Sometimes people I have no interest in dating tell me they could never date me because I'm black. I was happy just being friends. On the other side the whole "I love black d*ck thing is a major turnoff" One time someone asked me how to tell a black guy that was interested in him that he wasn't interested because he's not into black guys. If I hadn't been stunned I would have told him the same way you tell anybody else you're not interested.

+Will Johnson Agreed and the reason for making this video was hopefully to reach out the the people that are having a hard time seeing the issue with this type of language to take a second look at it. It is completely okay to be attracted to physical things that make up different people, but to be attracted or not attracted to someone simply because of their race is a ridiculous notion.

I'm friends with people of all different skin colours, genders, sexual orientations, religions,and races. All my friends in the school are friends with each other. This hit me hard, I always disliked my skin colour. I was very young and affected by the media. I would look at the television and see people with my skin colour who are barely seen because many white people or Europeans (I hope I don't offend anyone, don't take it the hard way. I'm no sure how to even word this) I always see Asians or black peoples be like the robber (stereotypes ugh) or they either poorly represented as a person. I can't lie that the media affects me. It really does. And it's so sad how others can't be accepting. Thanks for making this video. I love these because I can rant. Remember : we are part of society and can change for the better. 😊

Glad you brought up this topic, Dylan! It's such a real thing, and people need to be aware of how harmful their comments may be. Especially with so much interaction happening online, it's so easy to just slap on "no asians" or "no blacks" and just write off people completely based on race before even saying hello. Change won't happen overnight, but like you said, opening it up to conversation is going to help a ton!

I love that someone is addressing this, It's really dehumanising to be judged on your race without being heard for who you are. I'm Australian so I can't say I get it a lot but its important to be aware of rude and unnecessary behaviour and make it less acceptable

Very well-said Dylan. After watching this video, I am now considering deleting my Gindr profile because of the racism I see in people using the app. It's kinda makes me sad seeing their profile information saying "No Asians please", you get the gist. Obviously, we're gonna be attracted by a person based on their physicality but if you factor their race in as the main reason why you want to date that person or why you don't want to date that person, then it becomes a very problematic behavoir.

I totally agree. When I was in elementary school, my friends were all like," White boys are so cute!" " Asians are so rude!" Today I'm best friends with 3 Asians and they are literally the most free spirited awesome people I've ever met. I try to keep away from people who look for a certain race to judge, personality is everything. I approach everyone the same, and how they respond is what I go off of. I hate people who decide beforehand HOW to approach the person by their looks or style. NEVER judge someone you don't even know.

But I am guilty of finding people of latin culture, European culture, and asian culture more attractive than Brazilian or African culture. And I'm doing my best to break out of that view. Unfortunately I still haven't had the opportunity to date anyone. I just look and admire people's features or personalities to those I actually know. Idk just dumping my thoughts.

This is so true, and I think that the biggest issues is that people don't recognize the racism or segregation they apply when they say something. For example, if you're out with your friends at a restaurant, and you're mentioning the waitress in a conversation, some people might just say "the waitress" while others may say "the Latino waitress". Most people wouldn't even realize that what they said could be considers racist. Another thing that bugs me is when someone says something like "he screamed like a girl" or "her new haircut makes her look like a boy". Why do people feel the need to describe something like that? It's much more than just being specific, and some people may say that it's not racism, so it's okay, but it's not. It's all considered segregation. In my opinion, the first step towards being a non-racist community, or stop judging people based off of their race, is to recognize when someone is being racist, even if they don't mean it, and tell them that it's not okay

God, I love you for talking about this. I fear because I'm Asian other gay guys won't date me, or they'll date me solely because I'm Asian. It actually makes me not want to get into the gay dating scene. Another problem I'd like the raise is the fetishism of gay white males in the entertainment industry. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's almost always gay white males whenever there's a gay movie or gay TV show (not saying racism doesn't happen in the entertainment industry when it doesn't involve gay people either), and I grew up without an Asian gay role model, because there was rarely ever one. I feel like because I'm Asian and not white, I'm not good enough to other gay people, and like you've said, this has really damaged my self esteem.

Interesting point. Although there is a difference between being sexually attracted to a certain race and being romantically attracted. I think in a romantic relationship, people are more open about being of any race and more attracted to personality. But, many people do just have a preference when they are looking at people. I know I do. Whether that view carriers over or not is up to that person

While agreeing with you on mostly, I have to add something. People are free to limit themselves to a certain race too if they want to, close-mindedness is a freedom too. Where I stand is side where everybody is happy; in the same vein, I find some grindr profiles are racist. One can prefer some people for their race over others but what they can't and should not do is expressing it in a way that can be hurtful in my opinion. For example: you might not find black or asian people sexually attractive to you; but you do not have to say that on your grindr profile like "no blacks no asians". Nobody forces you to respond anyone back.

What I think about racism dating wise is if someone develop feelings for a person but purposely exclude them because of their race. However since you've mentioned how the media could impact us, I'm having mixed thoughts.

I'd be a bit wary of throwing the term racism around for people who date exclusively within their own race. For one thing how does that compare with people from ethnic minorities who do the same? Those in the majority race have a lot more choice and may just happen to not come across someone from a different race, the same is less true for those in the monitory. Equally there are certain physical characteristics more prevalent or even exclusive to certain races. Is there a difference between a white person going out with someone because they are Asian compared to doing it because they are ginger?

We cannot change racist beauty norms. The least we can do is to make proper race classifications in gay dating sites - like removing Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Latino, Indian as "RACE" category. Med and ME are Caucasian, Latin is mixed race, East Indian is nationality, not a race at all. Someone who routinely refuses interracial, the least he can do is to admit it.

What if I prefer Asians, but I believe in getting to know a person and their personality before judging them? I just feel more relatable with a fellow Asian, but I love getting to know other races since its more culture and yeah Idk, I just feel like I like people by their personality, but I'm more lenient if their Asian no racism acquired. Its what I grew up near I guess it's true with the whole "where u grow up has a substantial effect on your bias"

I've had an ex who was only into girls from the Uk/Ireland.Lets just say I was pissed off when he said that. I'm still young and have a lot to learn in life but one thing I'll never understand is why people are racist or homophobic or just need to share a harsh opinion that doesn't benefit anyone. I've had many arguments with homophobic people, on the Internet and in real life.Although not a single person has proven me wrong.They all curse at me then start throwing names at me before leaving. As for people who are racist.I have no idea what so ever.Yea one of my ex's sucked ass but he wasn't the most cooperative person to talk with, and blocked me quicker than he replied to me. Anyway like really -3- If they were thinking about others and not themselves maybe they'd realise someone like them, from another race is probably thinking of them like that.Unfortunately all humans can't get along :c Some just can't accept the truth and say that they're wrong. lolI I'm bad at stories

I have no problems with dating any type of race. My preferences are on chemistry or if you are my type which usually come to common interests. For example, I am heavily into art, music, or motorcycles. So whether you are Black, Asian, Latino, White, or Etc. it doesn't matter. I am just going to be selective on whether you prefer doing a night at a formal club or are we going to a bike run like Sturgis. 😀 In other words, if a guy is Black and more of a biker bear type, I am going to prefer him over a white guy who wants to go to a formal club. 😁

@@toyoscio Once we got past common interests, I would choose the one who has more stability and lifestyle choices which mesh with mine. Things like if they have a job or financial stability? Do they have addictions or do they have drinking problems? Race, Ethnicity, or Color are not issues. Like I said before, Common Interests and How much Baggage or How much Stability you have are the most important. I have turned down Men who were Black, White, Or Any Other Race or Ethnicity if they were not my type, but also if I found out they were people who were just looking for someone like me to use and mooch off of.

Okay so here's the thing. I don't think this is a problem in general. I don't think you should generalize a community. See, you could go and say these things that you feel to your friends. To be honest, race doesn't matter. If you want to have friends based on their race, isn't that just the same as saying "He's kinda cute for a black guy"?
@PantsStatusZero
@PantsStatusZero 8 жыл бұрын
I am not sure their is an upside to trying to force a sexual experience on ones self, if you know upfront that it just not going to do anything for you. Neither side of that equation is going to have a good time. An appropriate analog to your argument may be to say, your sexist for feeling that women couldn't please to you sexually. I would hope you would see how that logic is flawed. On a side note: my response to "He's cute for a black guy" would be "Yeah, I hear they're allowed to do that now." -_-
@8BitDylan
@8BitDylan 8 жыл бұрын
+PantsStatusZero I disagree though because me not being able to be sexual attracted to women is a biological notion and not something that is a choice such has who you choose to allow in your dating pool. Believe me I would absolutely love to date and have relationships with women, but the fact of the matter is that parts just don't work like that.

Ok two different issues. I agree with you that dating someone just because they are a certain race MAY lead to a "Denial of Autonomy." The good Asian wife stereotype. I don't agree preferring an Asian partner is inherently racist (on the positive racism side). I would maintain that at least initial the preference wasn't a conscious decision. When you realized you were into guy and were only going to be into guys, did you actively seek female partners? Why would you expect these men to seek out non-asian partner if they know that's what they are looking for?
@PantsStatusZero
@PantsStatusZero 8 жыл бұрын
+Nishan King I think there are a lot of studies that would show attraction is both a nature and nurture thing. I remember watching a show where they talk about how porn was introduced to a secluded tribe of people in Asian. And how up to that point penis size was never an issue. But after the introduction the woman folk had other exceptions. On the other hand, there are a lot of reason from a biological psychology stand point why certain people would seek out specific characteristics in a partner. The famous example is a study where they found people prefer the smell of people who are more genetically diverse then them. The theory was that it was a defense from sleeping with someone whose dna is to close to you own. Thus decreasing the possible that you're related.

This is a realllllllly hard topic and something I've struggled with in my life. It walks a fine line between racism and attraction/preference. In my life I realized that I check out more white men and basically ignored dark skinned men. I've told people this and they would say that I'm being a little discriminatory. My mind is open to any relationship because you don't want to lose out on something special, and I could end up falling for a black guy or maybe even a woman if the circumstances ended up right. In the end I think it's important that you are just not objectifying groups of people. Live your life and find love in the people you want to find love in. I've been in relationships with white guys that are really nice and sweet, but I've had to be honest with myself and say that I'm just not attracted to them and move on to someone new.
