DESCRIPTION
In this episode of the RAD Lab podcast Liam speaks with women's college basketball superstar, Georgia Amoore, about her experience at Virginia Tech and being an integral part of the Hokies making it to the Final Four in last season's NCAA Tournament.
Georgia gives us an insight into the life of a student athlete at the highest level and how she deals with the spotlight and notoriety that comes with it.
Tune in to hear everything from how the 3pt specialist prepares for games and maintains her performance across a travel-packed schedule, to her favourite American fast food restaurant (don't tell coach!).
** We apologise for the audio not being it's usual crispy quality - Liam is currently completing research in the US, so he is running a makeshift travel set up for now. Regular uploads and buttery smooth audio quality will return soon! **

I genuinely get it. For an Aussie to play ACC, SEC, PAC-12, etc..., yeah, i get it.😂 What she described about the time demands, marketing demands, classes, training, and diet sounds kinda weird. NCAA Football pays the bills. Period! Google it. The fact that Georgia, Liz & Kate were able to put a major D-1 football school's Women's basketball team in the Final Four is stunning. Virginia Tech is known for NFL Hall of Famers & hardcore gamers who were drafted from Virginia Tech (see Bruce Smith, Michael Vick, etc...). Steph Curry's dad, Dell Curry, is the last big big news in their entire basketball program. Georgia is literally a foundational piece of NCAAW basketball history, and, it may be odd to her & Aussies, history is written by the Victor. They grew a National & Conference Powerhouse Program from nothingness, over the 4yrs it took to earn a highly respected degree. That doesn't happen every season or every few seasons. They got their 1st ever sellout AT HOME...1st ever, then ESPN College Gameday came in to broadcast it as a national Game of the Week. Big Boy marketing 💰, in full effect!😂 It's a huge traveling studio show that's built from the ground up for BIG BOY college football. Basketball is always the minimalist setup, based exclusively on the numbers. Several top football schools with elite broadcasting schools have full production houses set up for mass media integration, so that's extra cameras & angles, which is more footage to see what's going on, and then the endless interviews are real. I'm happy she didn't break. It's a lot. As a top 10 point guard out of 300+ schools over the 50 states, she's elite. Elite + Senior PG + 50% of the best Big/Little duo in history...yes, she's the one who's expected to speak because she's the coach on the floor, a dependable Floor General who gets everyone involved without losing her own aggressiveness, and she's respected as a bonafide Hooper. Virginia Tech had no clue how to market women's basketball because it's always been another program supported by football money. Georgia & Liz made history because they were coachable & willing to work on being good enough to be the focus on opponent's Scouting Report preparation. They got a great coach, and they maximized his teachings & vision thru their natural ability. Sick for 3 weeks? That's kinda long, but it's a lot they have going on & they're still 100% expected to not miss or fail classes or projects.😂 It's supposed to be a fun Party Vibe, for them & the fans, but changing timezones on someone else's schedule SUCKS!!!😂 You don't want to party & kick it when your personal clock is eastern, then you begin to adjust to Pacific, and now you're in Texas...somewhere in between...with a full blown party on the tarmac as you exit the plane...with the Media Row gauntlet waiting as you exit the party.🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, i think she's having a legendary experience attending school in the states. Football gave team college athletics the title: Crucible of Sports. It is. Football & basketball are that kinda grind...and classes must be dealt with every step of the way. Caitlin Clark & others still have school finals to pass so they get their degrees, but they just got drafted to the WNBA & camp starts in 2 or 3 weeks. That's a 40-game pro schedule 2 months after your 30+ game senior season ended. That means those women won't sniff an off-season until October. The good news; College NIL deals travel with them, so they left school with more money than their pro contract value. They all are down to earth, and won't complain about making $76k per year, fresh out of college. No one else would. The average man makes just $37k-50k per year, without college NIL contracts.😂 It's a grind, but you get a huge boost if you choose to use it all to your advantage. Georgia could effortlessly play her last season of eligibility, become an assistant coach, then a head coach making millions, if she chose that. The options are almost as ridiculous as Wal-Mart, but she & Liz did something that's never been done at that school. They're that big, if they choose to be. It's all a matter of one's private right of choice.
