Great video. I’m replacing 5 radiators and the valves. The copper pipes have olive shaped indentations where the olives were before. Would you advise wrapping PTFE around the new olives and then tightening up, or using boss white around the olives?

Boss white for me.

Sorry I couldn't make it out, what was the other tool you use to hold the valve? Would water pump pliers do the job?

They were footprints but water pump pliers will do also.

I'm struggling to fix a leak from the valve on a a small rad. With my other, ancient, radiators it was easy to remove the packing nut, but this one is slightly more modern and the packing nut is very shallow so that tools slip off when I try to turn it (it's very tight, maybe seized) as there's hardly anything to grip. My best best is a 12mm deep socket (it's also a very tight space to work, so a ratchet is ideal), but even that won't hold on. Any tips? Cheers.

WD 40 and a tap round with a hammer and screwdriver. Failing that a new valve.

@@dereton33 Thanks. That's given me an idea: would it be safe to try with an impact driver, pressing down firmly to keep it on the nut?

Hi, Off topic but what would I have to do to recommission two rads ,in a sunlounge that was used as a storage room for a number of years, so were closed off?

Drain and flush them out. Refill and bleed, check valves working.

How strange that this should appear on my feed today, after 8 years I noticed that one of my valve was seeping, but for me it is the one connected to the pipe. So I thought get out the tools and just 'nip' it up a bit, no such luck the nut will not tighten so at the moment that side of the system is draining down. I was a Vespa boy, but 2-3 years after you probably.

Great, a later mod than me. Just undo that nut, live there will be a small amount of water put a towel under it, pull the nut down and clear, and wrap some PTFE tape around the olive, then tighten back up.

@@dereton33 Thank-you for the reply. I have drained the system wound PTFE tape and started filling but was still weeping, drained again more PTFE tape, still weeping. Next thing to try is a new olive and see what the condition of the pipe is like.

@@dereton33 Turns out that the tube was damaged where the olive was, not sure how I did not notice it when I changed it to a TRV 8 years ago. I had to cut back the pipe and put in a straight coupler (tectite sprint push fit), just about had enough length to do it.

Funny you mentioned ferrule, I had a plumber recently who asked me what a ferrule was!! I had to Google it so I could tell him. Should I avoid him in future?

Sorry to be off-topic but do you know what kind of washer would be required for underneath a push button cistern? the cistern isn’t filling with water very much and i am going to have to take the bottom pipe off where the water is fed in, incase the filter is blocked. Tho I am afraid of not buying the correct washer to replace the one that will be coming off the water feed pipe where it screws onto the cistern - I assume I cannot re-use the old washer. Thank you so much
