This is the eighty-fourth in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I cover:

- Painting third class figures and adding them to:
- The forcastle

Still an option! I think that was on the aft end of A deck? So might still be doable. Though sating that top would be about 0.2mm wide!

Commendable of you to put figures on... I hate it when aircraft modellers never put pilots in their builds, people really do help to add scale and story - oh and to hide your scratches, good save

It’s one of those things, I think it makes a model seem more alive, but crikey it takes time, and it does remove that ‘perfection’ feeling from it. The one that really gets me is when model trains roll around without a driver!! To each their own I guess, but I do like it myself.

Not sure if you were wanting to, or if it’ll be feasible, but there were at least 12 dogs on board. They were walked daily by the ships carpenter on the poop deck to……well poop. If finding correct scales of children was difficult I can’t fathom finding certain breeds of dogs. Some of the breeds were a couple Airedales, a Fox Terrier, King Charles Spaniel, Toy Poodle, French Bulldog, Chow-chow, Pekinese and two Pomeranians. It’s looking fantastic btw😉

Hi there, yes there were a good few. There is a set that has dogs in it. I just haven’t bought it! torifactory.com/?product=fs-02-titanic-animals-set-2 I might well buy it and do it later on.

01:05 I wouldn't worry so much about the putting the benches in the wrong places because, according to Olympic photos, some of them weren't permanently bolted to the deck and could actually be moved around.

Love your work! I'm glad that you used actual tiny 3D printed figures on your model and avoided the PE versions, having them strategically placed throughout the deck gives your model a look of life and activity and also presents a sense of scale to the hardware and structures scattered around the ship, I especially like the figure checking the anchor as it depicts just how ginormous the anchors actually were in size in comparison to people. To those modelers who used PE versions, your ship's are beautiful but I'm sorry, those PE figures are hideous no matter how far you look at them, I personally think they don't add to the detail but ruin the overall look of the model because of being thin and flat in representation when viewing from certain angles. Fantastic work and thanks for sharing!

First visit, and i think ive got a LOT of catching up to do! I like your reasoning re the third class single guys, and the way to the stern would have been well known to them as third class dinning room was to the stern. It was commented by a steward on the post sinking report that he had seen the third class single guys making there way aft on Scotland road as the ship was down by the head at that stage. I would like to comment that this is the first build i have seen whereby the lifeboats are correctly mounted on the single inboard crutch ( Designed by Welland to go with the davits, the idea being to unchain the boats, pull a pin to release the keel of the lifeboat, and it would swing outboard a touch, you could then drop the crutch flat as it was hinged) You have done your homework!

Hi there, Thanks for the comment. I think it was a relatively common thing for guys to head aft to the stern on most white star ships. As you say it’s been reported by stewards on the night of the sinking, I’d be heading that way too if my cabin was flooding! On the lifeboats, I found them hard to research, there weren’t that many photos of the lifeboats on Olympic or Titanic pre disaster, and as the arrangement changed so quickly there was a bit of making educated guesses from multiple pictures. @@TheModelBoatGuy Potential reason for confusion on the boat mounting is that there were actually actually two positions on the deck for the boat crutches. The outer resulted in roughly half the boat overhanging the side, the other placed the boat with it outer gunnel level with the side. Depended how much room on the boat deck was wanted for passengers. All became a moot point after the ship was lost. From the little study i have done of the sisters they look like they were retro fitted with many many extras as regards to life boats.

@@timgray5231 aah interesting, I hadn’t realised these were interchangeable. I just assumed the aft boats were positioned further out to maximise passenger deck space. Though I knew the forward ones were mounted further inboard I never really knew why. Always something new to learn on these ships!

Hi Rob, yes the little people are certainly making themselves look at home! The scale factor is excellent and giving the impression of life makes this type of modelling a cut above some stuffy museum examples that seem a bit lacking in realism. This model isn't worth anything unless you handknit scarves for every passenger and tailor fur coats for every First and Second class ticket holder 😜 For a second, it looked as though those passenger models were laying on top of the scale decks and I thought, 'Those are awfully tiny!' It's your desk 🤣🤣 P.S. These small finishing touches have made your model all the more outstanding. You need to let us know what your next two years' worth of videos are going to revolve around. P.P.S. The number of figures look like a good balance, because not only do you want it to portray a cold April crossing by day, there wouldn't be crowds of people on deck during the even colder nights when you have the stationary model lit up and on display.

Haha well if you fancy lending a hand with the knitting that would be appreciated. It’s tricky to try and get a good balance, as you say too many will make the night time look unrealistic, but too few looks a bit deserted. Hi there, I will be adding as much rigging as is practically possible. As regards keeping the superstructure removable… I have a few ideas but nothing concrete yet. It’s something I will be getting to in a few episodes time
