How to remove a car stereo from a Toyota Yaris 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
This stereo system can be found in a few other Toyotas so it may be relevant to you.

For the customer we turned the pocket below into a Single Din slot to fit an after market radio - Its quite straight forward. Alternatively, you can get a whole fascia adapter to put it where its "meant to be" but these are costly.

I got a Phillips Headunit online and put it in where the deep tray is housed. Had to file down the edges of the dash to make it fit. worked perfectly. Gave me bluetooth and also aux and iphone connection. Charged my phone too. I was also able to download an app to my adroid which meant that whilst it was in the cradle, I could control the radio via my touch screen. It was a Philips CMD305A Android/USB/Bluetooth HeadUnit. Mine was used for a month and is now for sale as I bought a new car.

Thanks man. I just used this to help me pull mine apart. The radio has gone all crackly in mine, So I opened it up to see what the aerial connector looks like, will see if swapping it out for a different aerial will work.

Great video, though fails to tell you it's a pain to get the screws back in, lol. My CD changer hasn't worked from the start to I'm replacing the terminals to hook up to my Mobile Earphone Jack. But I think I will need a mini amp.

After removing that part how can I install a CD player in there? Or even just attach an aux cable.. If someone has done it please let me know as I've had my car for a year and still unable to fit in a CD player.. Thank you x

You ca either get a fascia which replaces the whole grill. Alternatively you can use the pocket below.

What issue are you having, have you got bare wires? You don't need to cut any wires you can get a audio adaptor harness.

Thanks for the tips, I'm buying a new stereo to replace my Yaris (2000) cassette tape player and was going to get it fitted by Halfords for £30 but after watching a couple of videos I think I will actually attempt to DIY and save the £30 for a more expensive head unit. Question : Can I use any cross head/philips screwdriver or a particular size? Also would you say the whole removal/fitting process would be easy enough for a lady :D or would you rather leave it to the professionals?

My stereo is intermittently working-plays then stops playing and sounds like it's sticking. It's not the cd as I've tried various ones. Can I actually replace the cd player (that might be a stupid question :-) )?

+coral laroc yes you can. to prelift version fitted also cd from lift ver, you only need to change front panel replacing it by yours old panel. it holds on small locks. works fine, tested in my 01' yaris verso

Great. I can do that with my eyes closed! HOW do you fix the illumination on the digital display screen? Mine has stopped lighting up and I have removed the unit but CANNOT get the facia off the metal frame. Something behind the volume knob is preventing me from getting it off so I can't access the screen.

Well after a visit to a Toyota dealer today there doesn't seem to be any way of replacing the bulbs, they sent me to an auto electrician who told me that it's a factory sealed LCD 'throw away' unit!!!!!! The Toyota dealer told me they were EXSPENSIVE to replace but didn't give me a price, so it looks like I'll be rigging up my own illumination system soon.

I got my stereo off a friend, you can get them new from halfords, argos or second hand on gumtree/ebay. Just make sure they have everything you need (aux, usb etc). You may need to get the fascia (depending on the size of your stereo) but mine was fit although I had to cut some of my fascia for my stereo to fit in. I also bought some harness adapater for like £1.49 (I think thats the name) for the wiring for the stereo.

Duel MasterBlaze Thanks, I got my stereo from argos for £40 yesturday, I've got an aux cable and ordered the fascia i need from Halfords. Only thing confusing me is that halfords say i need 2 cables, a harness adaptor and an audio connector and together they are like £18 which i thought was pretty expensive

Good you got your stereo, you'll probably need the fascia to fit it in. Did it come with any wires? Just order it off eBay as it's cheaper! You'll need the ISO radio harness adapter ( Link is here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Yaris-1999-onwards-ISO-Car-Radio-Stereo-Harness-Adapter-Wiring-Connector/251334381714?hash=item3a84b25092:g:ICgAAMXQnFhTlZew). I didn't fit the aerial adapter in (audio connection) but I need to as I think I need it for the radio. Haven't yet ordered one but when I do ill send you the link. Alternatively, you could refund your order from Halfords and buy this one (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Yaris-1999-2003-Car-Stereo-Radio-Single-Din-Fascia-Fitting-Kit-FP-11-09/181921912192?epid=1987755351&hash=item2a5b641580:g:XQYAAOSwWfFXkO59) it's cheaper and at a proper good price , Halfords probably charger £10-15 for the fascia? I ordered a fitting bundle off eBay which comes with the fascia, harness adapter and the aerial adapter. Should be arriving Wednesday-Thursday, I'll let you know how it goes

My gf recently got herself a Toyota Yaris like this one. Since there is no Aux input I want to either replace the radio, or somehow add an Aux-input. Has anyone any experience with doing this? I only have some experience working with electronics outside of a car so I would like to tips or pointers if any has some to share :)

shit!!! when i was trying to remove the knobs, the small trasparrent thing of one them went off and fall in the gear box !!!! (the curtain of the hutch is missing...saddly) I did not know that from the begining and once i found out it took me 1 hour to find it and then it took me 1 more hour to retrieve it with barbeque sticks from this small hole. So be carefull guys, always have the gear hatch close....

On this car where is the fuse for the radio ident know which one it is

Its Kamron late reply but for any future person reading it's (for my Yaris anyway) the fuse box is in a compartment on the right near the shelf bit above your legs and below the steering wheel, take the cover off and flip it over, tells your what fuse it what, the radio is hooked up to the acc fuse (accessories)

my reply is a bit late, but i was worried just the same. Then I saw the ''security''- bulb blinking in the video. This indicates, the battery still being connected at the time of the removal. Prior to the key not being inserted for turning the ignition, most of the elements in the control panel are not on operating voltage, so it is safe to remove the panel while the battery is still connected, just keep your keys in your pocket, thats all.
