I had that exact one. Was successful with some circuits. Not so successful with other circuits. I believe the FM Radio instructions specify to only use 1 transistor. My Dad was able to utilize all 3 transistors which made the radio station I was trying to tune into come in more clearly. I was only able to get the crystal radio to work in the Portland, OR area where my Grandma lived. I wish I still had this kit. At 41 years of age, I'd still play with it.

Ever find a date anywhere in the manual? I had this exact model when I was a kid - my parents bought me one for Christmas. I couldn't remember what year. I remember I managed to accidentally make a "crystal" radio with this ... I was blown away that I could hear the radio with no battery. I thought I "discovered" something new and my mom thought I was trying to prank her when I had her try to listen. lol.

I remember using the burger alarm trip-wire, extending the length of wire, and learning about resistance without realizing it.

I always loved radio shacks kits, unfortunately I never got one. My folks got me an off brand 10 project kit that was terrible. It was meant for older kids I think, and it ended up being a disaster for me. I've been thinking of getting one of these for the sake of old times, now that I'm much older, I shouldn't have too hard a time getting one of these.

I have this same model. Got it at a flea market for $5 - yes, it is fun. But it seems to be missing the crystal. I have a lot of crystals in my junk box. Does anyone know what the crystal frequency is supposed to be? The manual does not say. I probably have an exact or close replacement but need to know its value.

What are some good electronics labs that are available today? I had this same one as a kid and loved it! I was looking for something similar for my son. Any recommendations?
