The CoCo was the first computer I ever touched. Nice to see Grandpa TRS-80 here and it's whopping 40 million machine cycles per second.

I had a gig when I was in middle school around 1980 entering medical records for an optometrist into his brand new TRS-80 Model II. I was in heaven.

@CosmicDamian At the time I thought it was the neatest. From what I recall it had a heavy spring mechanical feel and a hollow sound. Required a strong touch which was different from electric typewriters which typically had a soft quick feel. Different than an IBM 3270 terminal which was smoother. More like a DEC VT100 terminal but the VT100 would get a real mushy feel after it was broken in, ugh that keyboard was awful.

I remember learning COBOL with a new Model II all to myself. It was so cool. I loved it. Looking at the keyboard here in the video since so much was about that. I realize it was one of the first to not have the " above the 2 key and for which { } was actually on the keyboard. Not sure exactly when that keyboard change was introduced or by what company/computer...but I did note it here. Got to love the idea of sliding the keyboard up under the display and calling the computer PORTABLE...yea...as long as you are strong and yea don't drop the big crate of egg shells that is the model II. I never knew until recently how fragile one was to ship.

I had a TRS-80 Model I as a kid, but I played around with Model II's at Radio Shack. The Model II fascinated me just because of the higher resolution display. However, being a kid, the Model I was more appropriate for me because it had graphics capabilities as well as games created for it. You couldn't play Pac-man on a Model II.

Hey, if you wanted the additional three 8" diskette drives, thats gonna set you back about $6000 in 1980 dollars of course.

I was looking for a professional PC, floppy and 24Row X 80Col display all-in-one. Luckely I discover TRS-80 Model II, I had developed an accounting software as billing, adressing.

I had forgotten about having to start basic with the number of files on the command line

This was different from the Model I TRSDOS which had a "How Many Files" prompt that came up when you loaded BASIC. I believe NEWDOS/80 had the command line option like the Model II. Also, I learned that the Model II let you specify a program to load and run on the command line when you loaded BASIC, and the Model I TRSDOS did not have that.

Wow , I never new the model 2 was so like the model 1, complete with TRSDOS and basic, I thought it would have run CPM etc.

It did have CP/M as an option, and was incompatible with other computers in the TRS-80 line, being intended as more of a business machine. Even the TRSDOS it ran was different.
