I was at this event myself...I was at a 3 day convention in the city and heard from a radio station that morning that they were playing a free concert and it was walking distance from the hotel I was staying at...so I blew off a conference meeting, went and enjoyed myself.

Yeah, it was awesome to be a teenager in the Bay Area in the 90's. So much great, accessible music. Free concerts, $5 cover punk clubs, etc.

hard times for this great band. Far from the Main Stream, a concert at 1pm in a place with many distractors to capture the attention of the public. But determination, commitment and discipline took it forward and have managed to be great today with admirable Long live Radiohead!

Saw them in seattle around the same time at the young age of 15. Never missed a tour after that. Little 300 capacity all ages club. Thanks for the post. A lot of Radiohead fans don’t realize what a crazy explosion of energy they’d deliver before they had so move on to arena shows - still fantastic but the intimacy of seeing them in a small venue was ... really special.

Totally agree. I saw them at a small club in SF on the tours for Pablo Honey & The Bends & they were super energetic & raw & just straight up rocked. I saw them again when they toured for OK Computer & they played a pretty massive venue. They were still amazing but I missed the intimacy.

@@chasonw1 I was lucky enough to see them in a very small intimate theater (paramount in seattle) on the OKC tour. It was so packed I couldn’t move, but I was literally like, close enough to reach out and almost touch Thom’s shoe. The next show was at an outdoor amphitheater for Kid A, and it was great, but in a way it was like ..... a really cool little party had been crashed. If that makes any sense. Continued to see them live after that, and they made arena shows fun, but like you said it’s just not the same.

Luis P Yup! It was the day The Bends was released. I was 15, skipped school that day and drove 50 miles to SF with to see them, right up front! Life changing!

I marvel at the fact that at every phase of their musical journey they’ve been able to channel this kind of intensity of performance. Thom’s voice is so good. PH is not bad as a debut; the songs here sound great live interspersed with classics from The Bends.

that was the most disdain filled version of Creep I've ever seen them play, and they followed it immediately with My Iron Lung, a song about how much they hate creep.

Probably because of their resentment towards Americans and the song. Creep is their most famous, but in other countries, other songs are as memorable. Not in America, most only know Creep, aside from either fans or people with general knowledge of the rock scene in the 90s (not just the Hits)

That's definitely him. He was a DJ for KROQ in LA back then and traveled to SF frequently.
