Back then I often went to a pro rock disco and the DJ had Mirage in the playlist. He then put e.g. often from Camel -"Lady Fantasy" then onto the turntable (and the other good stuff). Everyone danced to this sound! These times will never come back. It was amazing.

I was introduced to Ponty when he played with Zappa in early 70's. Then saw him in concert with Jan Hammer in 76. My rock & roll roots have morphed into an eclectic tatse of many genres. I'm thankful to Ponty for helping steer and broaden my musical tatses starting in my early 20's. Now in my early 60's, still widening my musical horizens and having a good time doing so.

Cool... I started back in the 70s when Miles moved into electric. There was a whole lot going on there that I wasn't aware of and as you know there was Jean Luc Ponty, along with Weather Report, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra (where he often contributed). You might want to look into the new wave of electronics with groups like Phaeleh (Fallen Light), Klimeks (Etenally Yours), Gidge (Huldra_Other version), and Pensees (Murky) are a few of my favorites. Give it a go - you never know...

I discovered JLP in high school during the 80s, mainly because I discovered Allan Holdsworth. I would come home and out Enigmatic Ocean on and be lost for hours, playing it over and over. I would cop lines from JL and AH both. I learned to play, to venture beyond rock and blues from this album. 50 now, and I'm an active composer and musician. I owe a great deal of where my muses led me to JLP and this album.

I was staying in Plainfield, New Jersey in the summer of 1978. I had a temporary green card. A housemate had a Jean Luc Ponty album of which my favourite track was "Mirage". I played it one last time, slipped my ruck sack on my back and hitch-hiked up route 22 to Vancouver, down to Los Angeles and on to El Paso, and back to New York via Memphis. It took 3 weeks of pretty constant movement. I have never been back to North America since. The Mirage is remembered.

A buddy of mine in 1975 introduced me to Jean-Luc-, and Imaginary Voyage! Ever since, now at 47 years the musical journey continues through today, August 15, 2022! I saw the Cosmic Messenger tour at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, October 10, 1978. That show became Jean Luc Ponty live, released in 1979! Ongoing greatness!

I love this guy. I can play almost all of his albums on the drum kit. Learned most of them over 20yrs ago and I still play them often. Wow Made me learn so much after that! Thanks Jean Luc and Rayford!

I got to see Jean Luc Ponty a bunch of years ago. He was the opening act for Climax Blues Band out at Tanglewood. I remember it being amazing. I already had 5 of his albums. Afterwords, I picked up a copy of Rites of Strings (Ponty, Al Dimeola, and Stanly Clarke). I love each of them, but for some reason it took me years to warm up to that album.

I think my Jean Luc Ponty Live 1979 record is almost transparent consumed by my stylus. One of my early records I bought. I bought then other copies even on CD but the magic of that first record will stay in my memory forever. At that age this was one of my favourite bands. Loved so much JLOP music.

JLP plays a superb solo on an Elton John (yes, really) album. The song is called Mellow and the track is on the Honky Château album. Fantastic, magical stuff.
