I loved how this scene doesn’t just talk about what it’s like for someone to be gay and their attraction, but also the pain for people who fall for others they believe to be straight (Rae’s love for anyone never being returned), prejudices and misunderstandings (Claire stating how she feels in danger and being reprimanded for it, although she may have had a small point with Rae’s behavior even if it’s never been too extreme), and slightly dealing with homophobia from others and getting support from close friends. This wonderful and touching scene that covers so much very maturely, and should honestly be looked upon when doing something similar in other shows in the future.

These random ladies shit talking Rae wasn’t actually in the web novel or light novel, instead it had Rae thinking about all the stereotypes of gay people she used to see on Japanese TV and how she couldn’t relate but now she was doing the same thing, acting as a stereotype and putting a mask on. That scene was taken away in the manga and replaced with this one, personally I prefer the former because it explains that Rae isn’t acting like this because she wants to, she’s acting like this because it easier to be denied while wearing a mask than be denied when acting as yourself.

When it is about gay people I never saw any bad reaction (to be fair, it's so rare that I don't know many anime where gay people appear). I mean the one gay character in Mirai Nikki was pretty wholesome and not a turn off. And I laughed my ass off when Yuno found out he is gay and became really flustered when she heard from him that he is into Yukki. It was really funny. 😂 I wonder if L from Death Note was gay too? I don't know but in the end of part 1 he seemed pretty gay to me too. I'm sure there where a few other anime with gay side characters but I forgot the names of them. Was it Dagaronpa? Both are certainly valid ways to go about a queer character: 1) Ignore it, and treat it as an everyday thing, which it inherently is. Nobody questions this character's gender or orientation, they just roll with it. Not that they avoid it, they are aware but don't care. 2) acknowledge it, and even educate a part of the audience that may be unaware of certain aspects without sounding clinical or out of place. I often see people talking about one being better than the other, but like I said both definitely have their value.

@@Vesperad0tbf about point 1, you can down this route and do really great things with it ( eg mage and demon queen, please bully me, villainess) ie still be queer positive, but yuri manga and anime tends to veer hard into making the lesbian couple a showpiece, some cute girls doing cute things, which gets you an audience that shouts “stop being political” when the manga even remotely brings up the idea of being gay, so to have an anime actually bring up realer experiences and issues faced by lgbtq people is really quite nice ( some explicit ones are my lesbian experience with lonliness, how do we relationship, shimanami tasogare, all great reads that take the queer experience seriously and put it at the forefront, unfortunately this also takes away some of the mass appeal and make the stories less fluffy so perfectly understandable if people don’t wanna read them)

If claire is still straight, why cant she love Rae back as a sister or best friend and not as a romantic partner if they spend a lot of time understanding each other? @@milleniumadam8643that's a different form of love. @milleniumadam8643
@milleniumadam8643 9 ай бұрын
@davidsantiago7808 Yes, i know it's a different form of love than what Rae is portraying. It is both acceptance or rather acknowledgement and rejection, claire knows this but chose not to reciprocate that kind of love back. Now, why is that? Is claire a portayal of a woman with traditional morals? If so, rae's love is immoral, and it is not normal for a human being. That kind of love serves no purpose but satiate a lust and fetish that is mixed into that love. If people argue that Rae's love is pure and non-sexual, why is there a need to establish that kind of relationship with them if you can just love them wholesomely as friends or someone who is as close as sisters are? So what does Rae intend to do with her love for claire or for other women? What does she want to do with them in that kind of relationship? To be intimate and sexual. If people argue that she just feels more comfortable around women, that is no different than her just being comfortable around girl friends. Rae's love for women in that way is not normal as a human being. So i would like to delve further as to find what caused her to feel that emotion strongly such that she believes she will never love a man. There is always a reason for it, so i would like to explore rather than have people comment and tell me to just be tolerant and accept her homosexuality because that's how it is, without giving any explanation or even try to delve into the issues and problems associated with it.

@@milleniumadam8643"why does Rae need to be in a relationship with Claire to love her ?" Ask that same question to a straight person "why do you need to be in a relationship to love them?" . Ever heard about platonic and romantic relationship!? Asking questions like" why does Rae need to be in a relationship with Claire to love her?" Is like questioning and forcing " a person with a romantic form of love for someone" to fade their romantic form of love and let their love be in the form of platonic love . Man it's such a simple thing yet you are over complicating it . Just like how a man falls romantically for a woman in the same way homosexuals falls in love , the feeling of genuine love, the feeling of being in love & everything is the same but it's just that the gender is same . It just comes naturally for them just like how it come naturally for a straight men . Human love is such a diverse concept and yet simple but sometimes complicated . You may think that it's unnatural but the fact that human being are a part of nature and are capable of loving the same gender itself proves that it's natural because it just comes naturally for them and it isn't like their romantic love for same gender are harming their crush . This attraction for Same gender is not just limited to homo sapiens animal aka human beings ,it is present in other animal species as well which are a part of the nature . It would be considered unnatural if only homosexuality were to cause harm on a person's mental health and physical health but it isn't the case . And yeah you don't need to bring the "reproduction part " for understanding the love of homosexuals . Think about it, not every straight couple falls in love just to reproduce or even when they are realizing that they are falling in love at those moments there isn't any thought of reproducing(having s*x to have offspring)but only the thought of the qualities/personality that they fell in love with . There are many infertile straight couple yet their love for each other remain strong despite not being able to reproduce. They can sure have s*x out of love but a couple doesn't always have s*x just to reproduce , sometimes s*x is all about feeling each other for more deeper connection or for just pleasure. They can love, feel eachother both mentally and physically despite the fact that they can't have babies (reproduce). You can't just lose the feeling of love for someone just because they can't reproduce. What they have is called "love" . And the Same thing which is love can be said about homosexual couple. Despite not being able to reproduce they love each other just like how an infertile straight couple love each other despite knowing the fact that they can't reproduce. And now all of the things that I wrote till now are referring to pure love not some fake kind of love aka infatuation. Many straight couples date each other just for s*x and mistake infatuation for love . Many straight couples which have fake love cheat with each other and so on.. and in the same way many homosexual couples do the same . And now this is where you have to ask yourself what kind of relationship of romantic love you want to form with other human beings. This topic will be so long and hence this is my last reply . Unlike other ignorant and rude people you asked in a kind yet ignorant way because of your genuine curiosity and you tried to put efforts for understanding other people who think differently than you and so I think that maybe if you are not homophobic and is genuinely curious to understand about the love emotion felt by homosexual then you should have a calm and genuine conversation with a long lasting homosexual couple . Then maybe you will understand it better than trying to find answers in internet. And yeah please don't do the conversation with some bad homosexual person who uses other people in the name of fake love. Have the conversation with genuine homosexual couple with everlasting love life just like how you should ask about love from someone with a long lasting love incase of a heterosexual couple's love .

Falling in love with someone not expecting to be loved back because of gender preferences but still wanting them to be happy is such a pure thing. I'm with you there Rae, I'm with you.
@milleniumadam8643
@milleniumadam8643 9 ай бұрын
To love and care for someone deeply is a selfless and pure thing. That is "Unconditional Love", A love where you dont expect any reciprocation for it. No matter what happens to you, the most important thing is that the person you love is happy and you have the best things in mind for them. This is unconditional, this is pure. But who says that the girl she falls in love with cannot love her back as someone who is close and important to her whilst still preferring to love and be in a straight relationship? Why cant Rae not accept (if it does happen) her love reciprocated back to her as something like best friends, familial or sisterly? Why does she not accept that love? That is pure and wholesome.
@halfpintrr
@halfpintrr Ай бұрын
@@milleniumadam8643The thing is, she does accept that love. She literally says that. (She likes making her friends happy.) But she also wants a relationship with someone where she can be intimate physically. In most cases people like that, physical intimacy is elemental for most. If Rae was a dude, would you be championing this purity if he did the same thing? Or would you be like ‘frendzone, he should move on?’ I ask because ‘purity’ in specific can be used to discount gay love.
@milleniumadam8643
@milleniumadam8643 Ай бұрын
@@halfpintrr im sorry, but may I ask you what was the main purpose of a relationship between two individuals for? And what that sort of sexual physical intimacy is for? If Rae was a dude, her friend wouldn't have that problem because her original preference is a male. This Purity between a man and woman, would of course include sexual intimacy and lust because its needed to develop a deeper bond to create a family. However, sexual intimacy is not needed forever in a family. But everyone keeps misunderstanding because they observe how most people fail at this, saying that is abusive, there's no love in it, they are also being very lustful, they dont want to make children, its just to make children and nothing more which leads to failing households. Purity between two individuals of the same sex or gender, (male or female) What reason do you have to justify your sexual intimacy other than being lustful? Your sexual intimacy serves no purpose. But if its just physical intimacy like hugs, small kisses, sisters can do that, friends can do it but seldomly so what is the reason you need to justify establishing a relationship between gay individuals where the relationship is by nature, sexual? Friendship and Sisterhood or Brotherhood can have the same pure physical intimacy as anything but sexual intimacy. There is no need to get into a deeper relationship. All of this will sound gibberish to you, but it doesn't matter. The decision Rae and everyone similar to Rae made their decision for this path firmly. So my only remark is do not complain for the consequences you may suffer later on.

You can be in a same-sex relationship and not be sexually attracted to each other (Gay/Lesbian + Asexual) but still have deep romantic feelings for each other. Furthermore, some gay/lesbian relationships can have biological offspring from both parents. This is kind of an absurd statement to make. Maybe that’s how it goes in the east, but in the west, gay people have an objectively way easier time finding partners than straight people. The difference between gay men and straight men is ESPECIALLY huge. Gay people just fuck anyone. And I don’t even mean that in a derogatory way. It’s just a statistical truth that gay people are just generally more open to sex and have lower standards amongst each other. So, with how easy it is to find more gay people nowadays, there’s no way any gay person would have trouble finding partners if they actually tried. Something like that.

To be fair. Rae has been over the top with her affections towards the villainess. Or do you mean the random two girls gossiping. I think it fits the setting since it's inside an otome game. And random npc usually bully the MC over any trivial thing. Especially since the villainess has been tame with the MC, so the game is trying to offset it. So if not for her sexuality, the npcs would have bullied her for literally anything else. Like being a maid, poor, too full of herself from the exam, etc. I'm not saying the homophobia is the same as the others things to be bullied, just that there're people who only care about bringing you down by any means possible.

Not in that way, but in a literal hunting down something to eat kind of way. Last thing, is it just me or is there a weirdly huge amount of "fuj*shis" that are gay themselves but still fetishize mlm relationships?? I used to think I was straight but almost never enjoyed romance or porn until I discovered stories about m/m relationships. After time I did question myself why the fixation? It does. But the register is completely different. Japanese has its own words for the register used in the English translation so the translation is simply wrong. Even if you don't know much about langauges, surely you know about the basics of "polite word" VS "rude word", right? for example. "Come here." and "Could you come close to me, please?" They ultimately mean the same thing, but the register level is completely different. First one is casual, almost like a forceful command to come to you, which could be interpreted rudely. The second one is a polite request to come to you. They might mean the same thing but the level of formality is completely different. The words used in Japanese are scientific, and they have a formal serious conversation about life, not just some casual talk or babble. The word for "gay" in Japanese is ゲイ, but the anime uses 同性愛者, which means homosexual. @@OtepRalloma

See this is so interesting, because High Guardian Spice tried to do the same thing with trans people. But the way they did it was super awkward, whereas this is actually educational. Yet their methods were similar enough, so im wondering why HGS failed to address an LGBT topic where this anime is doing it so flawlessly. Is it genuinely just like, the vibe thats captured? I'm gay myself and from a writing perspective, it's really important to try to pin this down. I'd hate for an author to want to try to talk about LGBT people and fail because the vibe they captured wasn't right for the topic, but I myself am not talented enough as a writer to say what should or shouldn't be done. One little bit I DID appreciate, however, was how they made all the characters into aspects of the discussion, including the discrimination of "ooo i dont wanna sit nex to her", and then allowed the character who was in the wrong to realize the hypocrisy she had and learn from it. I felt like that was a very positive way of looking at learning how to be a kinder individual

I'm not an active kpop fan, ive only heard a few songs, but the amount of times I've heard of stans speculating on a real person's sexuality-not to mention shipping them with other real people if not themselves-only to get irrationally angry if their fav is indeed gay is...something. What I saw was like the inverse, a bunch of "fujoshis" that loved to imagine their bias making out or whatever, but if it was ever revealed that they were actually gay (had no chance as if they did in the first place) or had a queer relationship that was private (men can't be gay if it's not for some teen girl's enjoyment apparently) they'd riot. I really don't like the way most kpop fans treat the singers.

This went way too far with Witch from Mercury. After the show had already finished, and showed the yuri pairing with actual damn engagement rings, a bunch of dipshits started complaining about it online until the higher-ups at Bandai Namco officially retconned their relationship.

I genuinely will never understand shit like that- like- the entire point of it is that the funny women are gay, and that was why you were watching it, so why when the funny women are confirmed to be, in fact, gay, what the hell is the problem??? That’s why you were watching it????

When I saw the clip for this escene I expected a cringe escene to laugh at like a clip from a Isekai with a long title, but I never expected to have a trough, relatibly serious conversation about LGBT+ themes and that is not as simple as "love is love" with it.

I find it interesting that japan explains lgbt far better and in a more accepting way without belittling anyone than in the west. It even did a great job with aot bc if that was made in america they would have a went on a rant about sasha not knowing about people being able to have darker skin.

I really appreciate this scene, because honestly the characters discussed a real topic in such a lightweight and in a way that wasn't awkward or misleading this type of GL is nice because it shows that men can exists but women don't always find interest in them, rather than in some other GL where there aren't males at all which is unrealistic

The group now has a better understanding of each other as well as the nuaned understanding of their actions. Top tier writing.
