The RAF's head of recruitment refused to follow an order to prioritise women and ethnic minority candidates over white men because she believed it was "unlawful", defence sources have claimed and a leaked email has revealed.
Security and Defence editor Deborah Haynes revealed last week that the head of recruitment had resigned over what sources described as an "effective pause" on offering jobs to white men.

@@LemmingOverlord The Government is working against the best interests of the majority of the population. They're using stories like this to deflect from that fact. I was walking up a street in Newcastle yesterday and saw a homeless man asleep propped up against a traffic bollard. I thought, no fancy hotel for him, but we're spending £5m a day for people who aren't from here.

Actually positive discrimination leads to segregation and a greater need for positive discrimination hence more discrimination. All we need is to promote intelligent people despite superficial difference not the other way around (i.e promote superficial difference despite stupid people, which is exactly what will end up doing).

Imagine hiring based off anything other than their fit for the role. These diversity targets are not just bad for business but are bad for the individuals who no longer have to work hard to achieve their goals aslong as they tick a box.

Most institutions are deploying such discriminatory measures as a matter of policy. I know that there are recruitment practices that automatically deselect candidates simply for choosing 'prefer not to say' on 'diversity monitoring' questionnaires. All such questionnaires and surveys are merely incarnations of Adornos F scale. It's all an ideological witch hunt.

As a mixed-race male I can wholeheartedly say that if this policy exists it is truly depressing for EVERYONE in this country regardless of the race, gender or orientation. It is right that it is ILLEGAL and I really thought (and hoped) that the major institutions of this country were already beyond the need for this and that people were employed purely on the basis of merit and their suitability for the job in hand. Sadly, it seems I was naive and that this is not the case. It’s a sad revelation for EVERYONE actually!

They need all the manpower and women power they can get . Maybe open a new school for ethnic minorities and women . Still like normal school and there are many different types of schools in this country .Enrol to a school where did not have to focus any energy on external crap which arises sometimes just from minor differences

I once applied to join the RAF. I was rejected (and quite rightly- although they did say that they might have me as a navigator if there was a war on!) but if I had been accepted nevertheless, and be told it was due to being in an EM or some other tick box, it would have been completely wrong and belittling.

I really don't think candidates WANT to be chosen because of their gender or ethnicity anyway.Most people want to earn their place on merit IE they are the best person for the job. I would be horrified if I had the slightest feeling I was being chosen to suit an agenda😤

I think this is going to backfire so hard. When talented, qualified people decide they’re no longer valued, they will leave, and then these companies and government agencies are left is a fraction of the talent pool they started with and everyone suffers. This has never worked..

@@dogmadogma5398 There are a number of RAF flying instructors (past and present) that are fighting this lunacy. They are the ones that are getting candidates that are taking longer to train and failing more as a direct result of this policy. That leads to front line shortages at a time when the RAF is already at bare bones levels!

Interestingly, I believe the EU has recently introduced legislation requiring all large companies throughout the EU to ensure that they maintain a gender diversity split amongst all their senior positions so that a minimum 40% of positions are held by the minority gender. In effect no more than 60% of senior manager/director jobs can be held by men, with the rest held by women and vice versa. This can however, ONLY be achieved through some form of positive discrimination .

'Where no hurdles existed'. Oh, hurdles for some but not for others then. Who decides whether another individual has or has not faced hurdles? Give all applicants the same aptitude tests. Accept those who do best. The RAF isn't a competition in perceived fairness anyway. It's purpose is to fight. There is no other.

Racial diversity is "hugely important". No it isn't. As long as businesses aren't refusing to hire anyone based on race it doesn't matter at all if there is racial diversity or not. It would only matter to ppl who think black ppl or white ppl are essentially different from each other, aka, racists.

It’s funny how some industries will opt for blind auditions to tackle problems with discrimination (like orchestras) and others decide that it’s better to have lesser qualified people do a job where they could seriously endanger themselves and others to tick boxes instead of taking the best person available. As well wouldn’t this just create additional heat because anyone that basically isn’t white male would be questioned on their legitimacy of having entered the RAF through proper procedure rather than through diversity privilege. The approach seems wrong to me. If there is a desire to boost the numbers of minorities within the RAF, proper incentive should be given to qualified people to consider a career and engage in the training and education that is required for enlistment. There might just be other industry sectors they prefer working, have different aspirations in life or lack the specific education required. People are individuals and not numbers or boxes on a page to satisfy your statistics.

Have no respect for the RAF at all after a tour in Afghan in 2009 on two separate occasions refused to come in for casualties due to still been under fire from the taliban It wasn’t effective fire but still wouldn’t come in. But thanks to the yanks we got them out of there.

this was not as they are trying to label it as a matter of internal policy it was a criminal act which was carried out 160 times and the air chief should be investigated by the police and prosecuted.the evidence is there and if the police do not act then they are in neglect of duty.

I would have thought the last place for discrimination to occur would be the military; then again the RAF is known to be more different and therefore “hated” than both the Royal Navy and the Army (I used speech marks because a majority of people in the army and the navy dislike the RAF due to their personnel being provided with better circumstances and environments such as better hotels, food etc.). I don’t speak for everyone but it’s just stating facts.

I'm very surprised to hear that positive discrimination is illegal in the UK. I thought it was everywhere in the UK. What about the requirement to have female board members in big comparnies? What about all female shortlists in elections for the house of commons, then? And does this mean that affirmative action is illegal? And what is "positive action"? I've never even heard of the latter.

Why don't these people pushing this help out first hand by giving up their own positions for POCs and Minorities? Weird how everyone else has to lose jobs except them.

Why is the word unlawful in quotes in the title of this video? The group captain was %100 right, the order was unlawful. Just like overcharging pregnant women from overseas is unlawful because it's based on their immigration status and gender which is against both the UK discrimination act as well as international law. The UK Government has a real problem with favoring or discriminating against immigrants and minorities whichever suits their purpose at the time; that is the real root of this story.

If everyone started on the same starting line and had equal opportunities the RAF would get to pick the best people and there would be diversity at the same time. But providing equal opportunities isn’t really the RAF’s job is it

People up in arms that this can happen in the RAF based on gender or race. All the while the police service of northern ireland (had/could still be) been recruiting based on religion for years.

When recruiting for any branch of the armed services .. the only thing that should matter is that the best person for that role gets selected. Cherry picking people because of skin colour , gender or sexual preference over talent just leaves us with a less effective armed forces. Worse than that will lead to unnecessary deaths caused by people that do not have the skills needed to keep themselves or those fighting alongside them alive. Personally I don't care who gets selected as long as they are top of their class. The armed forces are NOT a place for forced diversity.
