With all due respect to Novak's shoulder and Roger's complaint about tightness in his back today, and their losses, Rafa Nadal has been dealing with injuries like that his whole career and still has 18 slams, the most masters ATP 1000 titles, the best winning percentage, and does this usually with nagging injuries. Imagine what his career would be like if he was at full strength and healthy? That's why he's the goat.
@felipejosemamisay84574 жыл бұрын
Amen! Playing through pain, all those surgeries and aching still playing each and every point
@breakaway2x4 жыл бұрын
100% true. I can't imagine how much greater his numbers would be had he been healthy his whole career....let's just put it this way....everyone thinks Roger was so good and that he was the goat, but Nadal had achieved more, won more, had more slams, if you compare Roger and Rafa by age. So Rafa has always been on pace to far surpass Roger's stats in almost every category but injuries and not being 100% has slowed him down quite a bit, but he's still outpacing Roger when he was 32.
@paradigmshift75414 жыл бұрын
breakaway2x I swear 6-8 years ago I thought Rafa was completely done, his body couldn’t take the abuse anymore. Too many annoying injuries tho. Im a Federer fan so I’ll never call Rafa the goat - but as an athlete, I can’t not respect Rafa fighting through his injuries and still finding success.
@breakaway2x4 жыл бұрын
@@paradigmshift7541 Yep, it looked like he was going to retire by 30 or so...he was so physical and injuries always with him when he won his 18 slams.....that's what makes him more amazing and impressive. It's like he's so damn good a limiter had to be placed on him to reduce his overwhelming success.....without the injuries (a limiter) he'd probably have around 22-23 slams right now.
@breakaway2x4 жыл бұрын
I will also say that Roger Federer looked like he was done too when he was only able to win 2 slams in the next 5 years from 2012-2016 and he looked done, falling in rankings and then he took time off, came back rejuvenated and won 3 slams. As a rafa fan, that is definitely impressive. I still think Rafa is the goat, but roger's comeback is giving him new juice to his case for goat.

When you hear Rafa speak, you realize that while still a living legend of tennis, he is still a simple and humble man who is capable of creating ties of empathy with very different audiences. When he speaks he does not make a myth, he does an athlete in capital letters that has been, is and will be an example for anyone who passes through a tennis court, and that makes him much bigger.
@S1rWakka4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. He understands like no other to never underestimate an opponent. Even if he has won the last 10 meetings, he remains aware of any new tricks the guy may have picked up since last time. And even if Rafa is two sets and 5-1 up and catches himself losing a point due to lack of concentration he berates himself, knowing that an opponent can always use that mistake to find the hope he needed to raise his level and make it a match.

That'll tie him with fed and he'll be the first double grand slam. Then he'll get 21 and pass fed at RG. ¡VAMOS RAFA!

@@volcanicmax007 Right now he needs to bite on the USO title for the 19th,he got the best possible opportunity now,yes,a victory downunder will be great,but he also needs a slice of luck in Australia given how unlucky he has been there for yrs with injuries(2010,2011,2013,2014) and heartbreaking 5 setters(2012,2017) but for now Vamos for another US open title!

Man I saw this game live yesterday, there was so much action in it. As a Nadal fan that backhand slice and side-net cut was just mesmerizing. Props for Cilic to not give up and kept fighting. Great sportsmanship from both players. Was amazing to hear Nadal’s about Tiger Woods and his fans. Tiger and his family were so happy, and kept supporting him through all the years.
