I reckon this film's biggest problem is that it's set in the American superhero movie version of Khandaq, which just doesn't work. It's a brown generic city full of brown generic people who aren't allowed to have any identifiable culture because... well... I think we know exactly which culture they want to avoid depicting, right? But because the people of Khandaq have no identity, the city has no identity, so it doesn't feel like character-in-and-of-itself like Gotham does, nor does it feel like a window into an interesting fictional-but-based-on-reality society like Wakanda does. It's just a place for the Rock to smash up.

@gospelofrye6881 That's certainly *a* problem in the movie, but it's not *the* problem. The biggest issue is that Black Adam is not a hero. He is a villain who only does things that benefit his image and power. It's one of the similarities between Adam and Dr. Doom from Marvel. Both may be good rulers, but they don't rule well because it's the nice thing to do but because it makes them look good. There is no way Black Adam would destroy Khandaq's throne and choose not to rule the kingdom.

I mean it all makes sense, why he's like that, plot-wise, the "twist" explains it but you're left with a sort of... oh, so it's like if Jesus was accidentally replaced by his dad no wait that can't be it, it's like if... wait no this doesn't make any sense allegorically, he should have been the kid's best friend that would work argh". But I want to stick with my "geography mother of history" theory and claim that if Black Adam had been from, say, a Metropolis equivalent of Harlem (I know I know bear with me) then by simple dint of "we have to make this setting feel like Harlem" it would force Black Adam's character arc into something more than just an asshole with powers who smashes stuff until we have to call The White Man Who Is Even More Powerful But It's Not Racist He's Actually An Alien Not A Better God We'd Never Suggest a White God is More Powerful than a Black God Oh No I'm Cancelled Again Aren't I Damnit....

He played himself but a bit more toned down. It was terrible nonetheless
