Late Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi was an Indian vocalist from Karnataka in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is known for the khayal form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music.
Raag Bhairav is a Hindustani Classical heptatonic (Sampurna) Raga of Bhairav Thaat. Traditionally it is a morning raga. Bhairav is considered to be the most ancient fundamental Raag of Hindustani Classical Music. Also, it is believed that Bhairav was the very first Raag to be created by Lord Shiva. This raga is being used in worship by Hindus in their religious imagination of “Lord Shiva and Parvati”.
Bhimsen Joshi was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 1998, the highest honour conferred by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama. Subsequently, he received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in 2009. He made a career in Hindustani classical music, devotional music, patriotic music and playback singing. Bhimsen Joshi was known for his powerful voice, amazing breath control, fine musical sensibility and unwavering grasp of the fundamentals. He died in 2011, aged 88, in Pune, Maharashtra. Joshi first performed live in 1941 at the age 19. His debut album, containing a few devotional songs in Marathi and Hindi, was released in 1942.

I listened to this at 5 in the morning. And I found myself being pulled into a state of meditation. There is divinity here. There is divinity in watching the first rays of the morning sun , in watching ocean waves , in a child's smile ,in watching a starlit night sky. These are spiritual moments. Hearing this music was for me an immersive spiritual experience. I felt one with the cosmos. What more can a mere , mortal man want ? 🙏🕉️

does not always work. I even paid for adblocker(google)..it made the machine useless. Plus, ads did come up , more frequently, only google, and no skipping any more. They refunded the money...just live with it..LOL

I thank Music Today for preservong and uploading such pure gems represntng Hindustani classical music.Th late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, of course, is a legend.But apart from his vocal range and control; the sombre gravity with which he introduces Rag Bhairav in the alaap hallmarks the raga sets the tone for the entire presentation. Listenng to this recording is a spiritual experience.

Divine connects in this rendition.. Biggest irritation is to skip ad everytime. After listening to this performance atleast 16 times I dont remember a single ad as I pounce to skip it and somehow hit skip ad.
