I was present for this baitaik. I was just 12 years old . But the sangeet was divine . Panditji was at his best with Dawood khan on tabla who was a Hyderabad residence . This mahifil was organised by my dad late ram bhau joshi who was a disciple of late Pannalal babu ghosh flutist . My father was a great flutist . This particular took place under the auspicious of kalatarang Matanga organisation at chhabildas school . The photo is may be misleading or Panditji had sung the same song on AIR . HOWEVER it brings back great memories and listening thanks to who ever uploaded the audio good luck

I have had opportunity to listen to Pdt. Bhimsen Joshi, the legend of kirana gharana so many number of times at various places. i am his absolutely a big fan. I have collection of his various ragas on gramophone records, Tapes, C.Ds. and now digitised. I also have collection of so many other classical music performance but Pt. Bhimsenjee was the first to mesmerise me. and I consider myself very lucky to have had lots of opportunities to listen to him in Sawai Gandharva concerts as well as so many private programmes. His various ragas e.g. todi of many types, marubihag. lalat, malkans. abhogi, kalashree, thumarees , bhajans and bhairavees ( jo bhaje hariko sada) are simply treats.

It was only possible because he decreased the speed of the taan at around 24:51 and in the end and made the amplitude of his voice lower to the point of being numb. Rather this taan at 40:28 is way better, because it's loud and strong.

This is an old recording, Pandit Joshi in his "younger" days. It evokes feelings of grandeur and magnificence, Bhimsen Joshi demonstrating the vast range and flexibility of his voice that has made him a top artiste. This is a classic recording. I brought this with me from India to USA when I came in 1972 and it still evokes those early memories for me. I remember asking, "Whose recordings should I take with me to USA to keep me connected with India?" and they said, "Bhimesen Joshi, of course!" and also, Jasraj, Amir Khan and Bade Ghulam Ali Khan... He belongs to that elite category, each different. . .

Sri Ram Ji, You have chosen the right singer to carry along to USA. I am Carrying his songs wherever I go either in an iPod or through CDs. I have not heard anybody singing Raag Todi so beautifully, full of pathos and perfection. Pandit Bhimsen ji has reached the zenith of bliss of Saraswati through such excellent and superb rendition of this great Raag. I, the listener also am drawn with him to this divine sphere. Thank you for uploading this recording. Takes me back to all those mornings, evenings and nights I spent with my father and other family members listening to Panditji. I am one of the most lucky ones to have not only heard Panditji live but interacted with him several times. In my childhood and later years too .. our mornings at home began with Panditji’s music and the day ended with his rendering! My father, Dr S S Gore was his ardent fan , and a friend of Panditji.. as a music conference organiser in Hubli .. exposed us to such a rich experience of beautiful INDIAN Classical Music and Musicians.

So many instances when we are talking to a divine soul in space...kya baat hai..... just through such DIVINE and PURE swara shuddhi we are able to transend barriers........... Bhimsenji and others were Swara Rishis who used swara tapas to get the same divine grace as other Rishis.... this was such a hidden but stupendous rendition. because NOT everyone would know this, those who do, its like heaven......

Respected Shri.K Nisar, Millions of thanks for keeping this full and rare version of Raga Todi by Pt.Bhisen Joshi with Tabla accompaniment by Ustad Shaikh Dawood Saheb. Rendering is vast, in tenor voice of that age, Taans are with tremendous speed and perfection. I think the pitch must be Black Two (Kali Dho) increasing the intensity of the rendering.

M.VVanpal. Shirhatti. KARNATAK. We have enjoyed Pt. Bhimsen's melodious presentation of various Raga's right up from1948 to2004in various, Music functions.Rag Todi &. Komal Vrishab Asawari have impressed us more.many thanks for up loading Todi sung iñ 1960 which has Sweet Tans which appeals to our heart so much :that can't be explained. Only it has to be listened and heart felt.

Over the years, we have listened to Pt. Buimsen Joshi's raag todi in different venues, at various periods of his career and this one raag has become one with him. It is always as if Todi is getting itself sung by him since he has given this raag a special personality by his understanding if it. Difficult to choose which of his todis ranks among the finest. Though my favourite is one sung at Amravati city.

The scuplture if Todi was carved so patiently and with such conviction that listener and performer were blessed that day. While these great artistes always perform at a super level, even they are sometimes surprised by their own performance when they encounter a mystic charm in their music.

Dear Jagdish ji! I am the eldest son of USTAD SHAIK DAWOOD Saheb,, many of the recordings which I posted are recorded by me in person at the concert with a small tape recorders, some I have recorded from Radio Programmes of AIR Hyderabad, some I have collected from my father's desciples.

इथे गायक भारी आहेच, पण जाणकार श्रोत्यांची उपस्थिती तितकीच महत्वाची आहे. योग्य जागेला योग्य प्रकारे दाद देणारे श्रोते आहेत याचा अर्थ त्यांना पुष्कळ समज आहे. दर्जेदार गायक आणि उत्तम श्रोते यांनी मिळून उत्तम संगीत बनू शकतं.
