my favorite fact about this move is there was a long conversation about using a dummy in all the bathroom scenes until the ending when Tobin Bell (jigsaw) stands up in the end, Tobin Bell refused and it is actually him laying there perfectly still in every shot.

While in film school, Whannell met James Wan. Together, the two wrote a script for what would become Saw. After making a short film in 2003 to showcase the intensity of the Saw script, the feature film version, directed by Wan, was made in 2004 and became a low-budget sleeper hit.

I hope they have someone to help with some info that gets cut bc a lot of Amanda’s actions are explained with her back story. She grew up in an abusive household and turned to drugs. No one in her whole life ever saw her or believed in her to be more than a drug addict. With this you realize that Amanda twisted the trauma of the game into “he did this bc he knew I was more than my addiction” and he was the first to really believe in her. THIS is why she says he helped her. There are so many other things cut from the first few films that really change the way the characters are viewed and show insight into their minds.

@@charlienerd So I’m a big saw fan, so sorry in advance for me writing a book and geeking out. So the story goes James wan and Leigh Whannell graduated film school and wanted to produce a film. They didn’t have any money so they produced a short that took place in one room, eventually wanting to make it into a featured film. Their manager saw the script and told them not to be stupid by making it themselves bc they’re sitting on an amazing idea. Eventually the short gets to Greg Hoffman (yes Hoffman was named after him in homage bc he’s pretty important to the making of saw). Hoffman saw the script and started pitching it all around Hollywood trying to get funding bc he saw the vision. Eventually they signed with lionsgate and we got the well known franchise. Also they ran out of funding and had to improvise by filming b roll of random buildings/ street signs. This is now a staple in the franchise. Also since they had no more money they couldn’t really do the gruesome stuff we see in the later movies so the og saw is pretty tame gore wise. The lack of money is also why when “Amanda” stabs the guy it’s the shadow that’s filmed, this is bc filming was over so they dressed Leigh Whannell as Amanda and painted his nails. During that scene if you don’t see Amanda, then it’s probably Leigh Whannell 😂😂 They also never intended on a sequel and the reason saw 2 is kind of the perfect sequel is bc it was originally a script for an entirely different movie and people were like “this kinda sounds like saw” so they tweaked the script and that’s how we got saw 2. If you made it this far I have more fun facts like the only time Billy’s name is mentioned and Amanda and Adam’s relationship (they know each other and it was cut). I’ve spent a lot of time analyzing this series so any questions I’m game!! Thanks for reading my nerdy comment!! ❤

In the scene where Adam was using his camera to light up his dark apartment so he could see, it looks like Blake missed every single camera flash. James Wan and Leigh Whannell made this movie when they were fresh out of film school with a shoestring budget. The twist endings in each film is what makes them so good. Some sequels are good, some are not, but each one reveals a little more of the plot in a story that becomes one huge puzzle. The last one, Saw X, is really good, maybe the best since the original. Charlie Clouser is one of the reasons why this series has last as long as it did. His main theme bring a prime example. “Hello Zepp” is what we call it by the way and this always plays at the end of each film. But it also plays at other times during the films as well. Charlie’s music is suspenseful, creepy and ominous but also at times, triumphant and exciting. He was best known for being the former keyboard player of Nine Inch Nails. If I remembered correctly, Saw was Charlie’s first ever motion picture score.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. A hacksaw CAN cut through metal. But it would take awhile. The problem is Adam and Gordon immediately went for the bulky chain when they should have just the saw on the padlock. The metal of the click is smaller and with some elbow grease, you could cut through that and thus, remove the ankle cuff. Definitely work better than trying to fit through the dang chain.

Yes, the Gideon Meat Plant map in Dead By Daylight has a room that resembles this bathroom and also has some corpses that appear to be Adam and Lawrence. The pig is a killer and Detective David Tapp is a survivor from this series…and of course the head trap!!

In DBD its refered to as a reverse bear trap. If you don't get the trap off fast enough it snaps your character's neck, and you can't leave out the exit gates with them on. I've had so many players run out the doors with them on and i'm just watching in stealth mode and thinking "Are you for feel" 😂

So it was never really about traps, it was originally made by Wan and Leigh Whanell (who played Adam) when they were studying film. The thought process was "We're in college so we're of course broke. Horror is the cheapest genre to make, but what if we go so cheap we can shoot all (or most) of it in one room?" Jigsaw views himself as a sort of life therapist, but legit thinks the best therapy is a near-death experience.

It's impressive that they managed to create such a masterpiece with a budget of just 1.2 million dollars and a duration of 18 days. The film grossed over 102 million US dollars. A truly top performance. And the best thing about the film is the end. Just a really cool scene.

The reason why this is a good movie is because it's an intelligent _psychological thriller_ . It required _some_ gore to make its point, but it's all about psychology and detective work. Wan was probably inspired by _escape rooms_ ;) The idea behind Jigsaw's victims are indeed what he mentioned himself. People don't have a desire to live, they just go through the motions, taking everything for granted and even destroy themselves by doing drugs, alcohol and stuff. By putting them in insane situations, where their life is on the line, only then they understand how much they want to live. And if they survive, they'll never take anything in life for granted. The nurse was an addict. So after she escapes, she was thankful to Jigsaw because she now has the determination and discipline to go full cold turkey and never, ever touch that stuff again. She has a new appreciation for what it means to be alive. So it's not quite a Stockholm Syndrome, but it's nevertheless a shock to wake her up to realize she's wasting her life by poisoning her body. Sometimes you have to shock someone to make your point. If you're curious, this is what exactly what survivors tell you. That they understand how much they want to live after experiencing that disaster. Well, not all of them. You also have people who blame someone for their experience and just continue on doing what they did before. But "life-changing experiences" are called like that _because_ it changes your view of life and _on_ life.
