"Raglan Road" is one of the most famous and charming Irish songs of all times.
“On Raglan Road” is based on a poem by Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh (Inniskeen, 1904 - Dublin, 1967). Kavanagh’s verses were set to the music of an old traditional Irish tune, “The Dawning of the Day” (“Fáinne Geal an Lae”), by Luke Kelly. “The Dubliners” released their recording of the song in the early 1970’s.
Struck by the simple beauty of the piece, in the past few years I’ve been playing it from time to time as a solo guitar improvisation at the end of my concerts.

I saw the danger, yet I walked along the enchanted way,
And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day."

Very reminiscent of Mark Knopfler's "Going Home" -for a movie about a Scottish town, not Irish, but the sweet, melancholy tone is there. Just lovely.

This made my day, Lorenzo! My hometown in Newfoundland is closely tied to Irish culture, with a distinct dialect and folksong tradition of our own. The Irish classics (such as this) are also sung in pubs and concerts all the time... it made me very nostalgic to hear this beautiful tune in your hands. Thank you, my friend!

Beautiful! Only Irish music can make a spruce top guitar sound like the warmest cedar.

Not so sure it is spruce.. Lorenzo if you are reading, what kind of wood was that guitar?

ohhhh i am not trying to put you down, I am sincerely curious if it is a spruce or a cedar guitar, I've listened it again and again, sometimes it seems spruce and sometimes cedar. Spruce is more yellow and cedar more red but there are some spruce that look cedar. And anyway, the sound delivered is warm and deep as a cedar guitar but that could be Lorenzo

Very cool! I always thought irish folk music had great guitar potential. Not as harmonically dense as classical music, but when playing all the parts it makes for a challenging and entertaining experience. I need to start arranging again ✍️
