A song written about the beautiful Dr. Hilda Moriarty born 1922 in Dingle, Co Kerry. She was a medical student in Dublin when she met Kavanagh and was 18 years younger than him. Poor Patrick was way out of his league with this beauty I'm afraid. Up the Kingdom!

Beautiful rendition of the song, BUT.....you missed the most important aspect of the song: The author (the one singing the song) is an ANGEL. And according to some myths, angels are not allowed to mingle with humans ("a creature made of clay"). However, this angel does, and suffers the consequences - "when an angel woos the clay, he'll lose his wings at the dawn of the day."
@kirbymusic1 Жыл бұрын
I'm aware of that interpretation but I think it's also a metaphor for a tragic love that will never be and not necessarily suggesting the entire point of view is from an angel. My intent was to share what I had read about Patrick Kavanagh, though I couldn't remember his name, lmao. I don't like to discuss song meanings because I like people to draw their own meanings. Regardless of what the author's meaning is. I feel the same way about my music. I have a meaning, but I like people to project their own feelings and experiences into it. In that way, songs can be reborn infinitely.

I used her form, and I played my violin solo very similar to the version played by the cellist in Loreena McKennitt's version. I didn't do it exactly like her but in her style. I prefer to change pronouns to sing from my perspective but I know people have strong opinions about that. Thanks!
@michaelmawhinney56907 жыл бұрын
This is a great version of a classic Irish song. Without being picky, why did you change it from 'her' to 'him' it's his story of his one true lost love. PS not trolling, love the version. Peace from Ireland x

@@kirbymusic1 hlo Hannah love your singing and fiddle playing ,,,but you didn't just change from her to him ,,but you changed some vital words ,,i don't think you can do that with what was a poem ,,, for example it's " true gods of sound and stone" rather than gods of sound and time,,,a few other changes ,,i think you don't need to change the words ..

Thank you!! I respect the camp of not changing pronouns in songs but I prefer to sing from my perspective. In that way, I am able to pull from memories of my unrequited love and sing with an emotion that I couldn't if I wasn't empathizing in that way. I really appreciate the way you've asked this question. Some people seem disgusted at the pronoun change 😅

You sing the song beautifully but I'm not convinced the gender change works because the song ceases to be a true story about a man falling in love with a younger raven haired beauty and becomes something made up. Just something to consider...
@kirbymusic1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Why can't it be an older woman falling in love with a younger raven-haired man? I know the "keep pronouns the same" camp is strong and I respect y'all, but I prefer to sing songs from my perspective. I'm better able to sing from a more emotional place.
@MarieahM Жыл бұрын
@@kirbymusic1 I do get it and I would normally agree except that in this case it's a true story and I want keep that truth alive. But that's just me. What you say is valid. Clearly, from the song, "ghosting" people was around long before it was trendy to do it.
