I always took ragnar's facial expression as shock and amazement because he only slept with aslaug becaus of her so calles parents, he wanted his sons to be born of the legends that were her parents. But after hearing this he realized he never should have gotten with aslaug, all that he lost dealing with aslaug. Lost lagertha and bjorn. Lost his family from his actions with her and all for something he already had in bjorn.

He didn't sleep with auslaug because of her parents. He literally only did it because the seer told him he would have many sons, and when lagertha had a still birth he went off the deep end. The running theme is that auslaug bewitched him, as she was a self confessed witch of sorts.

Talking about actual history, Ragnar outshone all Norse and Dane alike. His sons were incredibly famous what boosted their fame was the title of Ragnarsson. His shadow loomed over everything they did and if that isn't the greatest legacy, I don't know what is.

Valorath No, Rollo believes that, and Lagertha is too ashamed to speculate on which one was the Father. The Seer says Ragnar is the father and Odin visits Bjorn and the other sons (not lagertha or Rollo or floki). The whole bit with Rollo is just for bit of extra drama. Real life Rollo didn't even exist at the same time as half these characters.

I cannot fathom how much they butchered the actual historical lifepaths of the Ragnarssons. Ivar was supposed to be the oldest son of Ragnar, healthy and completely able to walk - at least in the beginning of his life - and become the bane and Terror of not only the Anglo-saxons, but of the Irish and of the Scotts as well, and he was meant to go down in history as butcher of kings, breaker of kingdoms, and founder of the Uí imair norse-gael dynasty. Ubbe was meant to be the bane of the Saxons, the bearer of the raven banner and the longest living son of Ragnar, who reached Valhalla only after dredging the River severn red with West-saxon blood at Cynuit hill. Hvitserk/Halfðann, was meant to be the first Danish king of Northumbria and avenger of Ivarr's legacy in Dublin. Sigurd was meant to be king of Denmark And finally Bjorn was meant to try and seize rome, the queen of cities... But instead we got crackhead Hvitserk, dead gay sigurd, Ivar the cripple Ruski, and Ubbe colombus....
