As a history teacher, the Vikings and the "ancient" world in general, prioritized the value of having children (especially if it's within the line of the family) to prolong the family line. Ragnar was angry at his son because of yes, his son's stupidity to bring his partner into battle while she was pregnant. Ragnar was very much more angry at the fact that the child that's not born yet is Ragnars legacy for the future to carry on the name. It's still true to this day for some fathers. But very much important for royal families.

My mother was like this too narcissistic but some things she did do right. My best friend got pregnant at 14 and stopped talking to me for years angry because i couldn't pay for her abortion many years later when i got pregnant on purpose with my daughter she tried convincing me that i just had a son so shouldn't have my girl. I told my mother and all he'll broke loose i got slapped and banned from leaving the house unless it was got the doctor or baby shopping she thought i was asking permission to do it and said she has liked the other way my entire life but not this time and how could i ever think she would give me her blessing to have an abortion. I didn't want that though so i left again and moved back in with my adoptive parents to raise the kids my husband was abusive though his mother was weak and let him be abused by men because she couldn't support herself or her kids he saw an opportunity and wanted to live off my family's wealth. My current husband is much better and really my best friend and finding a bff like him in adulthood is hard besides a dog. We've split up but his promise and vows to protect me and take care of me ate at him and he came back and said he never abandon me we make our money together and split it 50 50 if he doesn't need it he gives it to me since i dispense money to the kids he just buys them stuff when they ask. If i could have one more kid i would have with him he suggested adopting but i stood against it and he asked how i could be when i was adopted i responded yeah by my grandparents and he pointed out that my dad isn't my biological gpa and still gave me a chance.
