yup, it's often easy to mistake complexity for depth when taking about how "heavy" something is. rome & roll is more complex, pandoria is deeper. at the time i should have said R&R was the most complex, not heaviest :) amy & maggie already did a 2p runthrough on the channel for TI. i might cover it downthe road, but there's always so many other games to cover!

@@rahdo Oh yes, I've already seen their video. But still not sure, what to think about the solo mode. Right now, I think to save the money, play more "Pandoria Merchants" and save even more money for the german version of them expensive "Planet Unknown", which I think/hope is a great game for me?!

yup, i think that's a marked improvement, but it can randomly favor one player over another by a pretty big margin. i think it's better to randomly pick a spot for every monster before the game starts and then start playing :)

great list. imperial settlers is great for solo but i was a bit let down by the multiplayer. all the ganz games are cool but too abstract for me. you're not the first to mention demeter... i really need to check it out. glad to see we're not the only ones to leave hadrian's wall out of the their top10 (got a lot of flak for that!). i haven't heard of voll verplant... wow, will have to add that to the wishlist! :)

Ooh, I love your list! I have about 60 roll & write genre games. I also did not know about Voll Verplant - I've got both the American and Japanese versions of Metro X, so I am intrigued. I will return later to list some of my favorites you haven't listed yet.

honestly i had intended to wait on this topic until ruel had a chance to play TI, but the 50th episode + sagrada R&W sponsorship meant the stars were aligning and it was time to move forward now! fleet dice is still fantastic, agreed :)

That's a good one - a little similar to Avenue of the Kodama in that you are trailing across your sheet, but more variety and just MORE.

i really want to try aquamarine, and you're not the first to mention next station as well. sunshine city likely would have made my shortlist but i've only played the one prototpye

@@rahdo yeah, saw that highly dismissive and offhand interchange right at the end. But that’s not what many of us are talking about. Obviously, this is your channel and your opinions and you’re entirely entitled to call them as you see fit. But to ignore in THIS top 10 video a game that redefined the genre in favour of objectively lesser games - and for the reasons offered in that other video - is somewhat curious.

Well it's in Ruels personal top 10 which is why it got mentioned in the extended and that's not being dismissive I think. Also I'm going to have to pretty strongly disagree with the use of the word "objectively" as well as "redefined". I would certainly agree it builds on what came before it but redefining the genre.. I don't think so. But it's okay to agree to disagree :-)

@@rahdo we agree that it’s your channel and your opinion and that’s OK. But you said yourself it feels like “homework”, what others would call “crunchy”. Before Hadrian’s Wall, this genre tended to be light and fluffy. That’s the very definition of “redefine”. It’s OK if you prefer lighter games - that’s entirely your entitlement, no argument, and it’s a useful measure by which to frame future opinions in that light.

Well the homework comment was actually referring to Three sisters which literally has a section on the sheet of paper to take notes. Hadrian's is nowhere near as Byzantine as that. It's also not the first crunchier game, Rome and roll and fleet the dice game both broke that ground and Hadrian is building on top of those. I would genuinely say it's fleet the dice game that truly opened the industry's eyes to the idea of pushing the boundaries of rolling rights and what came after is building on top of that. And that includes hadrian's wall (you can go back and watch my run through where I raved about it) :-) that's not a slight against Adrian's wall, it certainly more complex than most but it's nowhere near as heavy as Pandora merchants for example or Rome and roll imo :) and again, ymmv and that's okay!

I’ve only done the app, but I don’t care for the appearance, theme, and mechanic. MetroX is abstract too but I prefer that one.

it is infinitely replayable (at much as other roll & writes if you're willing to laminate or use pocket sleeves) :)
