In this video we will discuss the first German battlecruiser raid against the Eastern Coast of England in the First World War. Where, elements of the first and second scouting groups would be beaten off by HMS Halcyon an old British mine sweeper and her two escorting destroyers, HMS Lively, and HMS Leopard. The goal of the raid was to lay mines off of Lowestoft and Yarmouth on the Eastern coast of England and bombard the coastal town of Yarmouth. In this, the Germans were only somewhat successful as one light cruiser was able to lay mines and possibly sank a British submarine. The failure of this raid would not deter the Germans from bombarding other English towns. As a disclaimer the map animations in this video are not entirely accurate, they are there to give you a visual aid and to give you a general sense of where the ship was.
